So I’m looking at Joao Felix as an example. No wrong doing as such but a bit of critique from observation of a player loaned twice in recent times, securing Chelsea, but reportedly now being pursued by Aston Villa.
Lovely guy and professional with talent who knuckles down, but I also wonder what some players look for and happy with when committing themselves to Professional Football in the current climate.
Al Hilal is like a showroom full of your classic but prestige cars. Higher Profiled Players who want to maintain the proudness of earning a wedge will move for those reasons.
But a 22, 23, 24 25 year old with plenty to offer is more of a number against a set up like Chelsea. Sure he will be paid, but then he has limited football time, so then he now starts to look at this alternative option. Whether or not, he’s happy with those terms. I just think it’s a little damaging spending more time on the bench than playing.
Chelsea for example can also look at it (using the policy they have employed) as an instant replacement on the pitch should their be an injury and it’s more like a ‘Championship Manager’ set up than really developing and allowing a player to build and achieve something as a player long term.

29th January 2025 at 7:42 am #217613Not quite sure what you’re talking about, cyber chum, but personally, I have very little sympathy for anybody who earns millions for kicking a ball about or somehow associated with football.. it’s a game, at the end of the day, and considering the rewards they get when compared to the likes of teachers, nurses or the millions of other people who contribute something practical to society, those “bitches” should just shut up and get on with it.
Stuck in the reserves earning 200k a week? Give me a f*****g break…

29th January 2025 at 2:16 pm #217617Yeah Chucks sorry I didn’t explain myself well enough mate. I’ll use Barca as an example in what happened with Suarez, Coutinho and Gundogen.
I think this happened years back with Scott Sinclair and most recently with Danny Drinkwater who I think now works in a Bank.
These big money moves appear ‘promise-land’ yet I think it’s more of a hidden agenda from clubs buying them.

29th January 2025 at 3:25 pm #217618Maybe, most likely in fact, but they could also fall under the “transfer” that just didn’t work out… and there’s plenty of those…

29th January 2025 at 5:10 pm #217619It looks as though the push for a move is coming from Felix.
Villa will be good for him as he is skilful

29th January 2025 at 5:50 pm #217622Not sure Suarez to Bsrca is a good example. He is one of the few that left liverpool and blossomed, becoming one of the very best strikers in the world.
Still not sure the point you are making however Nil with this thread. No transfer is a given and some succeed and some fail. Still these failures probably earn in a week what we earn in a year so my heart doesn’t really cry for them.
