I just can’t see OGS being a succes. Yes, he’s a club legend and knows “the United Way” and all that, but he didn’t do anything at Cardiff and to have managed in Norway says very little.
I have zero confidence in the squad respecting him just because he was a supersub much of his career at United and have managed Molde.
I’d love Simeone for reasons I have mentioned before. He might not represent freeflowing attacking football, but he stands for creating a team, a unit, a spirit in the squad. And that’s what’s needed before you can allow yourself the luxury of dreaming on beautiful football on a regular basis.
Who fits the bill of someone able to create a team, a unit and still play beautiful football?
I’m not going to say Guardiola for obvious resons. That would be taking the piss. Heynckes would fit the bill. But he’s retired and 134 years old. So who’s out there? I can’t see anyone, to be honest. So for me it would make sense to go for Simeone. He might not represent the beautiful game as such, but you need a solid foundation first and foremost. And if you can create that at the former madhouse Atletico, then you stand a better chance at United than most.

19th December 2018 at 9:24 am #29770Hope not… if there’s one way to go from legend to bell-end in thirty seconds it’s to start sucking the Floridian Dollar…

19th December 2018 at 9:35 am #29772Poch has already shown he’ll ditch a club when someone waves a bigger paycheck at him in leaving Saints for Spurs when there wasn’t much between the sides at the time. So, I don’t doubt he’ll either use the Utd interest to get a massive pay rise at Spurs and stay in a comfortable, pressure-free environment or he’ll take the money and a huge rebuilding job. Frankly, I wouldn’t blame him for taking the money from Spurs and staying in his comfort zone

19th December 2018 at 9:40 am #29773Solskjaer until the end of the season when there is CL, top4, FA Cup to play for. Of course we will get the usual media love in etc etc. just as happened when he went to Cardiff. We’ll see!

19th December 2018 at 9:43 am #29774Agree with much of the above. Itβs true the players are now untouchable so if youβre to manage them you have to be *hugely* respected. The only thing Solksjaer can really do then is let the players enjoy themselves and let them off the leash. That will no doubt lift things and get a reaction in the early days. But the players will effectively be the ones in charge from here on in – unless Solksjaer really strokes their egos will he get anywhere with them. How quickly times change…

19th December 2018 at 9:56 am #29775Absolutely Eddy, and I’m sure the Saints fans think of us Spuds as highly as us Spuds think of your OCT boys. If we want to go for those US Dollars then good-bye and good riddance. He’ll be dead to me.

19th December 2018 at 10:04 am #29776Come to think of it, I reckon the Cherries fans are going to be pretty pissed with us next summer, but that doesn’t mean for one minute I’ll not gonna drive up to OCT ground and piss all over it!! π

19th December 2018 at 11:08 am #29779Managers have ambitions that go further than just what they earn Southampton to Spurs was a step up and Spurs to United would be a step up.
Currently it’s only rumours and as the Ed says Pochettino might well want to remain in his comfort zone rather than take on the massive challenge that the United job represents maybe his family won’t want to live in Manchester lots of things could happen between now and the end of the season.
I do feel a bit for the Spurs fans who loyally turn up every week and follow their team all over the country as to live with all the constant speculation without it is somehow put to bed could have a negative effect on their season but that’s the way football is and the days of tenures of the likes of Fergie and Wenger are gone and Managers are either sacked or they move on to greater opportunities which is in fact what Pochettino did when he left Southampton for Spurs.

19th December 2018 at 11:13 am #29780Adlab, it’s only a temporary appointment Chelsea have had three interim Managers who went on to win trophies in their short tenures one of them winning the biggest trophy of all so you just never know!

19th December 2018 at 1:42 pm #29797Suggestions of Zidane have now popped up again. He’s got the right profile and of course a very good CV from Real and he would probably settle Pogba down but’s got no real experience of building a team or of bringing young players through which is part of United’s DNA.
I guess speculation will be rife on who takes over permanently between now and the end of the season.

19th December 2018 at 2:12 pm #29798If utd come in for Poch he will go
Ole has a free ride and he just needs to galvanize the squad
My point is he has a job so why leave for 6 months unless heβs been promised dof or something

19th December 2018 at 2:47 pm #29799AnonymousYep, I thought DoF, but Molde have released a statement which says, basically, that he is on loan and will return in May. They say it’s an honour to loan Utd their manager etc etc.
I guess he did it for the craic! Or pay cheque. He might learn a lot also, and return a better manager as a result, or he might learn about haircuts and clothing ranges.

19th December 2018 at 3:10 pm #29800Molde seasons over and their League doesn’t start again until March so Solskjaer will only miss a few weeks of Molde’s new season.
It’s a great experience for Solskjaer and he has United in his blood and I’m sure he will be amply rewarded with bonuses built in for a top 4 finish or a trophy.

19th December 2018 at 3:18 pm #29801My understanding re the DOF role at United is that they are looking for an experienced DOF which seems sensible.

20th December 2018 at 9:14 am #29819It’s a fact Chucky take a look. Made me chuckle anyway even if he wasn’t linked to United. Maybe he’ll go white haired next.?

20th December 2018 at 12:46 pm #29824As reported by Matt Law, Daily Telegraph:
Important point that is being missed in terms of Pochettino and #mufc is that he had his #thfc title changed from head coach to manager in 2016 and successfully fought against the appointment of a director of football…
