I just wonder if Felix is what Chelsea want. I think they need an out and out striker and not a number 10. But you never know. He is certainly very skilful no doubt and could make the team gel. Looking forward to seeing how he goes. I know Pep thought a lot about him at one point but he was too expensive. But we paid a few quid for Grealish.
What is surprising is that it appears at this point there is no buy clause?_____________________________

12th January 2023 at 9:06 am #202738Chelsea definitely need goal scoring striker but unfortunately you can’t buy to your exact needs in order of requirement especially in January.
Felix will add creativity to the team which is something that’s been badly lacking too and hopefully that will lead to a few more goals. And there’s a little under 3 weeks left in the January window too.π

12th January 2023 at 9:49 am #202740Not sure what to think about Weghorst. Assumed he was just a big target man having not watched him much but the Athletic refer to him as a “pressing monster”. Supposedly one of the most competent pressing forwards around. In that sense, as well as him being Dutch, I can see the sense in a low-risk, low-cost temporary move when we’re clearly lacking options after Ronaldo’s departure. I’ll save judgement on this one for now.

12th January 2023 at 12:25 pm #202742He can run Ed not sure he can do much more to be honest.

12th January 2023 at 5:06 pm #202744Hard to hide when you’re nearly 2 meters tall!
But pressing monster? Can run? Is this the same player, the one that was asked by a club team mate after scoring for The Netherlands against Wales why he couldn’t do that for Burnley? Not sure he is what Utd need to be honest.

12th January 2023 at 5:40 pm #202745No idea Threeps. Honestly haven’t seen much of him but his pressing stats are supposed to be crazy, hence the term “pressing monster”.
We didn’t really have much money to play with though so it was probably him or nothing for us. Can only hope Ten Hag has a plan. As I say, it’s low cost, low risk either way.
Some shift from Wout Weghorst in Burnley's 1-0 win over Wolves this weekend
Weghorst recorded 57 pressures – the most a single player has made in a Premier League match this season pic.twitter.com/UyDdXUUpRG

For today's π – I look at the Bundesliga once again and this time, trying to assess the defensive actions of strikers who press in the final third and how efficient they are in doing so –

12th January 2023 at 5:53 pm #202746Probably about right Sean. He was around a 1 in 2 goalscorer in Germany but we all know that’s rarely transferable to the PL. Certainly didn’t set the world alight at Burnley.

12th January 2023 at 7:40 pm #202749In fairness Ed, he did well in Germany. Burnley weβre terrible so itβs unfair to judge him on that. Might surprise people

12th January 2023 at 8:02 pm #202750When someone mentions pressing monster I think of Henderson, Mane, Kante. I had a look at the list of the highest average and its pretty surprising.
Wout Weghorst
33.2
Kalvin Phillips
28.7
Sean Longstaff
27.3
Allan
26.7
Mathias Jensen
26.2
Pierre Lees-Melou
26
Connor Gallagher
25.6
Mateusz Klich
25.3
Fred
24.8For Wolfsburg I think he played with two wide forwards very close to him and the width offered by wing backs in a 343 formation. He was probably a lot more isolated at Burnley.

13th January 2023 at 12:09 pm #202774Not sure what to think about Weghorst
Me also Ed
Was he brought in to add an extra body to replace Ronaldo ?
If yes not a great move imho.Weghorst had two premier league
goals for Burnley.Peter Crouch would of been cheaper πWho’s going to be supplying the crosses from the flanks
for Weghorst ? Can’t see either Antony Β£80M & Sancho Β£74M
as decent United players.Jury is still out on Antony thoughPressing stats are excellent btw.

13th January 2023 at 2:45 pm #202780What’s with using the fees PPT? π. Do you stick Β£100mil next to Grealish when you’re referring to him?
Yeah not overly excited about him PPT but we are skint at the moment until we know what’s happening with the owner situation. As you say, it’s likely just body to replace Ronaldo. We’ve gone from a great goalscorer who can’t run to a runner who can’t score π. We’ll see.

13th January 2023 at 2:48 pm #202781As for Antony and Sancho, I said when Antony came in I thought he would flop and I’ve seen little to change my mind. Still early days as you say. Seems to score big goals but doesn’t do 90min performances. Sancho, I can’t work him out. I thought he was brilliant at Dortmund even in the CL. I do wonder if he’s been struggling mentally considering Ten Hag’s recent treatment of him. If so, I can only hope Ten Hag is able to work the same kind of magic he seems to have worked with Rashford who looks a different player to the one we saw last season.

13th January 2023 at 5:31 pm #202785Sancho is clearly talented Ed but he just doesnβt seem to bothered. Never runs, gives it away to much, early doors with Anthony. Lovely left and he can certainly be worked
On
I just think he thinks heβs better then he really is_____________________________

13th January 2023 at 6:17 pm #202787Clubs are increasingly spending crazy amounts on young players because the market is so competitive now with even the richer clubs now targeting such players. But there’s no guarantee they’ll work out (unless they’ve played in the league). One of the consequences of FFP?

13th January 2023 at 6:53 pm #202789ED 100M re Grelish.I wouldn’t of bought him for that.
Agree with you 100% re Rashford. He looks a different player to the one I’ve seen the last 15 months after CR7 left.
What do you think re taking a punt on Trossard at Brighton ? His contract is up in the summer
and he’s had a bust up with the Brighton manager this week.Get him and maybe play Rashford as the no 9?_____________________________

14th January 2023 at 11:04 am #202799Net spend is the most ridiculous argument I have seen when it comes to certain clubs. Most of those City sales happened within the last 2 years and not the 1st 4 years. Peps spending within his first 4 years was ridiculously high and players sales was low.
Only Liverpool can argue the net spend rule because that is what the club have to rely on currently.
