The Chelsea squad will be reduced in the Summer by player sales 2 more players are already scheduled to join in the Summer.
I would be very surprised though if Chelsea sold anyone in the Summer they don’t want to sell the issue with Mount is that he needs to sign a new contract with 18 months left. There are only 2 players on 8 year contracts Rover Mudryk and Fernandez.

3rd February 2023 at 3:36 pm #203635I agree Nine but it would be contingency if we are struggling to balance books.

3rd February 2023 at 3:52 pm #203636Financially we won’t have to balance the books as you know the spend was funded as part of the agreement to buy the Club with Β£1.75 billion ring fenced for transfers and Stadium development etc in the terms of the sale of the Club.
I would be very surprised if the owners had so under estimated the effect of FFP in their calculations that they felt forced to sell a player like Mount next Summer the only way I can see Mount leaving is if he doesn’t renew his contract and then it would be sensible to sell him.

3rd February 2023 at 8:17 pm #203641So the person who spent around Β£450m in his 1st 15 months in charge of Manchester City, improving a side which already had Aguero, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Kompany, Silva is questioning Chelseaβs spending.

8th February 2023 at 7:54 am #203975Yeah been reading that Sean. Anything can happen. This was always a fear despite Ratcliffe declaring his intentions. Too early to know what’s going to happen but I’m not surprised at all. Really don’t want us becoming another rich state’s new toy. There’s nothing any of us can do to determine who owns our clubs, unfortunately. Really not sure what to make of any of it just yet.

8th February 2023 at 8:56 am #203976Don’t UEFA rules bar two Clubs owned by the same or related owners competing in the same UEFA competition.

8th February 2023 at 9:20 am #203977Yeah exactly Nine. Some reports suggesting this is a private group of investors rather than the state which would, I assume, get them around that. Would be slightly more palatable from my point of view. Really not keen on state ownership. Let’s see what happens.

8th February 2023 at 9:43 am #203980What can you do Sean? I watched the World Cup so I don’t know how I can turn around and say I wouldn’t support the club if it happened. I’d certainly consider that fact but I don’t think I could realistically stop completely. What I would absolutely not do though would be to defend the owners if that did happen. If my club becomes the toy of a questionable state, I’d be disappointed and would gladly point a finger at their misdemeanors. No amount of shiny new things will change my mind on that. Sadly, many won’t care about things like that. I’ve seen many Liverpool fans disappointed that Qatar seemingly didn’t go for Liverpool and many Utd fans delighted by this development. It is what it is.

8th February 2023 at 9:54 am #203983Murky waters Ed, Qatar is a country that shouldn’t be involved in our football even so called private investors from Qatar.

8th February 2023 at 10:01 am #203984100% agree Nine. Can only hope they’re not successful. Of the two (state vs private investors) I’d take private investors every single time though. My overall preference is for no Qatari involvement though, definitely. My preference doesn’t matter one bit though π

8th February 2023 at 10:03 am #203985At this moment Chucky, there’s been as much reported about Qatari investment in Spurs as there has at Utd so I wouldn’t go too early on that one! π
