Seems such a bizarre move
Joao Cancelo set to join Bayern Munich on loan:
🔵 Option to buy for €70m in summer
🔵 With Lewis emergence & 5 CBs, 3 of whom can play at FB, City feel they have cover
🔵 Cancelo wants minutes & was facing even less playing time with shape change #MCFChttps://t.co/lfSiwUSVfx— James Ducker (@TelegraphDucker) January 30, 2023

30th January 2023 at 1:34 pm #203445Yeah banjo can’t get my head around that, they let zinchenko go because he couldn’t get much starts ahead of cancelo.
No news about any new left back to city…maybe mendy coming back 😆

30th January 2023 at 1:37 pm #203446They been playing ake at left back last few games I have seen them so maybe they looking at the deal and thinking we don’t really need.

30th January 2023 at 1:39 pm #203447He played 36 of the 38 prem games last year with 7 assists and was fantastic every time I watched him.

30th January 2023 at 1:45 pm #203448If City feel they have enough players there, and they can offload an unhappy player now and potentially cash in in the summer, why not? City seem very good at managing and keeping their squad fresh. Eyebrows were arguably raised when Sane and Sterling left. Didn’t Bernardo nearly leave too? But no player is bigger than the club. Compare to Liverpool where we seem to cling on to players for too long or when a player like Mané left, it is my opinion that it gave us a rush of blood to the head to blow big bucks on Nunez. In other words, Mané’s replacement should have arrived *before* Mané left, not after.

30th January 2023 at 1:52 pm #203449Yes very true Mikus. Utd are absolutely awful at selling players and hang on to them far too long only for them to leave on frees (Matic, Pogba, Hererra, Lingard, Mata etc) or they become completely worthless when it comes to selling them as we’ve waited too long so go for nominal fees (Bailly, Smalling, Pereira etc). Dan James the only exception really. Massively hampers what you can do re FFP.
City have been very good at selling players at the right time. Cancelo, at 28, will never be worth more than he is now albeit it’s only a buy option so they may well get him back.

30th January 2023 at 1:56 pm #203450With that said, while Sterling and Sane (who Mikus pointed out) are good examples, the same strategy could arguably be the catalyst for them not winning the league again this season as it also saw Jesus and Zinchenko leave and become pivotal in Arsenal’s challenge.

30th January 2023 at 2:02 pm #203452Also pep been talking about lack of hunger and desire in his team and if cancelo is simply not applying himself daily as he should and has his agents looking elsewhere then accepting a 70m bid would be a no brainer.

30th January 2023 at 2:11 pm #203453Ed, I doubt City saw Arsenal as a threat. That could backfire this season.

30th January 2023 at 2:21 pm #203454Cancelo off to Munich. Fall out with Pep and there’s the door. Suggested £61m summer transfer. Half the Bellingham money maybe?
What is also interesting is that Bayern haven’t won since the WC apparently._____________________________

30th January 2023 at 4:56 pm #203456I was wondering why cancelo wasnt starting last few games. Must be huge fallout as city aren’t blessed with left backs

30th January 2023 at 5:17 pm #203458Sean, if Diaz was Mané’s replacement, why blow all that money on Nunez? In any case, Diaz is not a 25 goal a season winger which is what Mané was. It looks more that Mané has been replaced by Diaz AND Nunez (winger + goalscorer) which has cost us about £100 million gross. And Nunez is going to take some time to come good if he is going to.
As I said on the other thread, our best signings under Klopp mostly had previous experience in the premier league and because of that most of them hit the ground running. But we seem to have abandoned that more recently.

30th January 2023 at 5:31 pm #203459Sean, in pounds sterling, enzo’s release clause is 105m, but for a release clause to be triggered we would have to pay it all up front.
It has been reported that we have agreed a fee of 115m to be paid in instalments.
It is looking more and more likely this will happen now.

30th January 2023 at 5:35 pm #203461Ye fair enough lucky I just don’t think he’s worth anywhere near that. I understand that’s the release cause. That’s what benfica want but they are taking the absolute piss
