6th February 2020 at 2:54 pm #67589One day Mav, hasn’t Messi said that one day he wants to go back to Argentina and play for his original Club Newell Old Boys at the back end of his career.
This story regularly pops up but I would be amazed if Messi went on to play for any other Club in Europe or if any other Club in Eutope could afford him.

6th February 2020 at 3:34 pm #67593messi will not come to City,Argentina beckons as it will be for Augerro. I believe it is not a financial decision but IF by the remotest chance he did come to City , it would be for one season only

6th February 2020 at 4:04 pm #67594I think you’re right Brian but I’m sure Pep wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to manage him again, even if it was just for one year – especially with David Silva leaving at the end of the season.
I’m sure the club would recoup a vast majority (if not all) of his cost in merchandise, etc._____________________________

6th February 2020 at 4:39 pm #67598Yeah, but can he do it on a cold Tuesday night at Stoke? Course he can. Having said that, even though he won the Ballon d’Or (don’t get me started again), I do feel that he’s not the player he was 2 or 3 years ago. Would have loved to see him in the Premiership at his real peak. Imagine the faces Phil Jones would have pulled then!!

6th February 2020 at 5:03 pm #67605Ah disagree hightown, Messi is still playing very very well.
Ronaldo is flying aswell at 35.
These two are still the best around and playing to a very high level

6th February 2020 at 5:15 pm #67610AnonymousI think they need to loosen FFP. It’s all well and good to limit teams from spamming out a world class team but now we have teams limited into not buying at all. FFP has to keep up with the rising price of players.
I mean why can’t Messi go to City? I would actually love to see it. It might be bad for Liverpool but it would be good for the sport, in my opinion.

6th February 2020 at 7:13 pm #67643Ronaldo is flying aswell at 35. Only in Serie A,waspy.A league where even a 90-year-old can do it.And Messi more or less just in the La Liga.

6th February 2020 at 7:19 pm #67646Of course he doesnt care about the money anymore, both him & CR7 are billionaires, surely! Barca are a complete mess with the backbone of their team defo past their best, and Messi needing replacing.

7th February 2020 at 8:10 am #67854“Messi’s most recent contract extension came in 2017, to keep him with Barcelona through 2021. This extension allowed him to overtake Ronaldo as the highest-paid player in the sport. Messi averages an equivalent of about $33.6 million a year in this contract – or $646,000 a week.1 Jul 2019”
If the above is accurate he’s not short of a bob or two is he ridiculous really.

7th February 2020 at 1:18 pm #67939I do think Messi should have tried a different challenge somewhere else though. As incredible as his stats may be at Barca, he ain’t half been in his comfort zone there, with the team largely built around him. Maradona left to Napoli, a somewhat weaker team and won them two titles. Not saying Messi wouldn’t have been successful elsewhere, but it will leave the question hanging after his career finishes.

7th February 2020 at 1:57 pm #67950There is no player that you can replace Messi with as there is nobody like him currently, maybe Mbappe is the nearest that could possibly come to anywhere near a player to be able to fill his boots. But Messi is heading for 33 and nobody nothing lasts forever

7th February 2020 at 2:01 pm #67951But,I can see Messi joining Pep @ City, especially with Messi able to leave on Bosman @ the end of the season.

Problem is where do you go after Barca you can’t go to Real and the top PL Clubs/lifestyle don’t measure up and and few in Europe if any could have afforded Messi.
Very difficult to compare Maradona at Barca to Messi at Barca two different eras, two different personalities and Maradona played less than 60 games for Barca whilst Messi has played over 700.
Messi is a Barca legend and always will be Maradona is a great player who passed through Barca. Sadly Messi is in the twilight of his career now and we’re unlikely to see his like again.

7th February 2020 at 2:07 pm #67956You could say maradona didn’t cut it at Barcelona aswell bit maradona really was out of this world
Agree with your post nine. I don’t think that be hanging over him at all. The thing that will hang over him after his career, will be not winning a World Cup with Argentina
