Nine you said yourself Sanchez held all the cards not Arsenal. If he wanted he could of just said he wanted to go to City and Wenger would have had to accept Cities bid. I’m surprised Arsenal have done so well out of this deal and landed Mikitaryan. United could have just waitedfor him in the summer and not paid a penny or lost a player to Arsenal.

20th January 2018 at 9:28 pm #13206It’s a straight swap. Great deal for utd and Sanchez will improve utd no end.

20th January 2018 at 9:32 pm #13207AnonymousPagan – well there’s a first! What a way to express his cost. Not many other players get afforded the same treatment.

20th January 2018 at 9:32 pm #13209Jim, Pep is a Kelloggs. big time. He’s cardboard and he’ll sod off. That’s how your club runs, that is how Chelsea runs and that is how Manchester United runs as it stands.
I sincerely hope John Henry is a more patient man in nature, but if Jurgen Klopp drops all of a sudden, then HE too will be shown the door.
That’s the reality of it all.

20th January 2018 at 9:33 pm #13210Not so sure it’s a great deal for United Sean. But he’s definitely a great player and will improve them. How he fits in the team when Maureen parks his bus and just plays lumpkaku up front I’m not so sure?

20th January 2018 at 9:35 pm #13211AnonymousJim – maybe he didn’t want to go to City?
Maybe he wanted out of Arsenal more than anything and agreed City in the summer as they were to only ones who bid £60m? He couldn’t have joined Utd in the summer.

20th January 2018 at 9:35 pm #13212Alfie, all clubs work on total cost, not just initial cost, quite often the media refer to the cost over the contract, they don’t usually then break it down to weekly cost though.

20th January 2018 at 9:36 pm #13213Jim, agree with all that but Mourinho will think with Sanchez in the United team his they have got a real chance of winning the CL had United not moved for Sanchez now they may not have got him next Summer whether on a free or not. Sanchez imo will definitely secure United 2nd place too and from there Mourinho will think that can be a launchpad for a title win next season plus signing Sanchez may well encourage one or two other big names to come to United.

20th January 2018 at 9:37 pm #13214Pagan sorry mate but when has money really mattered to city? They have over doesn’t on many players no were near the standard of Sanchez. They could have matched it’s bid no problem. They bought managala fir 40m.
Was it not pep who got rid of Sanchez? Utd are hardly falling apart. They can still win a few trophies this season.
Are things st city changing now then?are they not going to pay over the price of players going forward now?

20th January 2018 at 9:39 pm #13215“Sanchez is proven in the pl and is world class. I’ve no doubt he will be a huge success and hit the ground running.”
The above from Sean sums it up nicely imo.

20th January 2018 at 9:41 pm #13218Jim, Utd have the money for him. It’s not setting them back. I’ve no doubt he will improve them and will give utd a massive outlet when trying to counter attack away from home
Of course being a Liverpool fan I really hope he doesn’t have an impact but I can see him hitting the ground running for utd and securing 2nd and pushing utd on to win another cup or two this season

20th January 2018 at 10:02 pm #13227AnonymousAgain, you’re being very biased Jim. We’re not as bad as you are suggesting.
But if you think people will be queuing up, rejecting all other offers, to play only for Pep this summer then you may be disappointed.
Van Dijk choose Liverpool over City.

20th January 2018 at 10:35 pm #13243Alfie, True i dont expect players to queue up to play for Pep. But i am a little old fashioned and think that when you have an agrement you should stick to it. Nine doesnt think that which surprises me. I also don’t think I’m being particularly biased but just being more realistic. I didnt say you were bad its just that Maureen plays more defensively and parks the bus at times mate. You might like that I don’t particularly. City under Pep have been playing better football in my opinion. But perhaps you think othewise? It’s all about differing opinions and we both know that yours and mine are rearly the same. All that said it’s really good to see you on footydebate mate. Your a good poster and really good at debating things. Cheers Jim

20th January 2018 at 10:43 pm #13246AnonymousBut that’s it Jim, the agreement was for £60m, should City stick to that?
The thing is, take the lower fee now, and the total cost (fee and wages) is the same – or close enough to not split hairs.
As for parking the bus – I think we’ve done it twice this season and couldn’t understand why either time.
We started the season playing great football, i’m hoping that Sanchez means Mourinho thinks we don’t need to park the bus again.
He is very pragmatic, and is happy to accept others are better. That is when he does it, but i’d rather he had a go from the off.
City have played the better football, no question. But you couldn’t argue that Arsenal and Spurs have played the best even when we were winning PLs each year. People never joined them over us just for the football style.
