Easy peasy Ed, hes moving for the most money not the style of play and the greater chance to win trophies. But mainly because apparently he had a personal deal agreed last summer with City and then his agent has tarted him around to the highest bidder.
This will cost United. £35M transfer fee, somewhere between 5M and 10M in agents fees depending on who you believe. £18.5M a year over five years thats £92.5m pounds in wages and Mikitaryan going the other way. What did he cost? £30M. That’s a total of about £165M for a 29yr old. After which he will have no resale value.
Yep you are welcome to him! We need a decent centre half and by that I do not mean Johnny f****** Evans. ?

15th January 2018 at 7:34 pm #12607Players have been moving for the most money for years Jim and it will never change. We’ve missed out on plenty of players through the years through not wanting to pay the asking price. Ferguson famously refused to pay the fee Lille wanted for Hazard. That principle got us Kagawa instead who we ended up losing money on so I don’t always think it’s worth haggling too much.
I just don’t buy into all this Pep or money thing the media are spouting though. We get it. Pep is a great, great coach and City play great stuff. But this is the same Sanchez that told a Chile teammate a few years ago that all he’s ever wanted is to play for Utd. We’re some way behind City currently but I think the whole “everyone wants to play for City” stuff is a bit overplayed. Pep has won nothing at all yet in England. Mourinho is famous for being an extremely persuasive person when it comes to convincing players to join and it won’t have slipped Sanchez’s mind that Pep has already sold him once before.
You’ve admitted yourself that he’d be a luxury buy for you. What would it say about Sanchez if he came somewhere to be a luxury player who won’t play a lot when he can go to a team where he’ll play every week? At 29, unless I was getting a hell of a lot more money to be a bit part player, I’d be going to the club where I was going to be playing.

15th January 2018 at 7:37 pm #12609Besides, where have you seen Mkhi AND £35mil being suggested? I’ve seen plenty about £35mil but I think they’re suggesting that Mhki would offset some of that fee, not add to it!

15th January 2018 at 7:39 pm #12611?? you’re welcome to Johnny Evans. To be fair, he’s a very solid centre back who I think would be great backup for any of the top sides

15th January 2018 at 7:50 pm #12615Oh I’m happy to concede they’re the prettiest sister at the moment! There’s no getting away from that. I’m suggesting it’s not only important who is prettiest but with which one you’ll get most action ??

15th January 2018 at 7:50 pm #12616I’d love Sanchez at United. He just turned 29, and he’s in his prime. And I don’t think he ever had any serious injuries or stuff like that. And today 29 isn’t as advanced an age as it was years ago. So no reason he can’t give United at least three or four good seasons. And then the reported fee doesn’t seem that high to me.
Sanchez is quality, and he’ll improve our starting XI as it is. And he isn’t any more of a moneygrabber than most other players out there. So to me it’s a no brainer. Go get him if possible._____________________________

15th January 2018 at 8:04 pm #12619Haha Chucky. Ed, If Evans is so good why did United sell him? Sanchez is a great player but he isn’t a Mouriniho type player is he? Hardly Drogba? Strikes of desparation to me. Like Lukaku a panic buy? But Lukaku is still a better fit.
Answer me this Ed If he isn’t moving for money why are United offering so much more than City? Why is he dithering unless he wants to see if City or Chelsea or Liverpool will offer him more. I would be more concerned from a completion point of view if he joined Klopp. As Liverpool would be formidable with him in the side aswell. But I honestly can’t see him changing United that much under Mouriniho.
Mikitaryan is being mentioned going the other way at the same time as £35m coukd be wrong but I haven’t seen a single report saying it’s a swap deal? But I admit his wages will offset some of the Sanchez wages.
Personally I think this is a big moment for City a statement if you will. The last few years we have been playing catch up to United. Not financially as since the takeover we have clearly been able to offer equal wages or better. But we are now saying we are not prepared to outbid everyone, come and play for us for how we play and what you can possibly win. Sure we have a fantastic manager and that is a big factor and we still offer massive wages, but it’s United that now have to offer more as they are not top dog anymore. You could say you have been knocked off that f****** perch Ed. ? cheers Jim

15th January 2018 at 8:11 pm #12620Game over… might as well go to bed now!
I’ll leave it to the two of you to decide who to spend your 150m million January transfer budget on… try not to accuse one another of not being a money club… 🙂

15th January 2018 at 8:16 pm #12622Very good Chucky. Seriously it was a good does of reality. But just remind me of those words when Kane comes cap in hand to Levy when Spuds renegotiate his contract! ? the Ed is of course right all players play for money to some degree or other.

15th January 2018 at 8:17 pm #12623Jim, I’m not for a minute ashamed to say we’re playing catch up to this City side. But, sitting back and watching City hoover up the best players isn’t going to close that gap, despite us being able to say we have retained our principles. Principles are for people like Wenger. He’s welcome to them. As in my Hazard example, we’ve been on the “principle” side before and come out worse for it. Even when we were the “top dogs” we lost out on many top players. It happens. It will happen again, many times, for both our clubs.
I’m not suggesting it’s a straight swap re Mhki. I’m saying the reports are a £35mil fee of which an agreed portion would be offset by Mhki going the other way. What portion of that fee would be offset remains to be seen, but it definitely wouldn’t be £35mil plus Mhki
I really don’t think Lukaku could be seen as a panic buy. Hasn’t Only Kane scored more over the last 5 years in the PL? I’m not sure who we could have got for the money who is more proven. Any ideas?
Sanchez for me would perfectly fit José’s counter attacking football that he played so well at Real in that record breaking season. Pep is known to have sold Sanchez after becoming increasingly frustrated at his inability to play to the manager’ s instructions. If he’s so suited to a Pep side, why did he sell him?

15th January 2018 at 8:20 pm #12624You have to ask what will decide where he moves to
1. Football style and his suitability to it
2. The ability to win trophies at his final destination
3. Financial rewards both signing fee and wages
4. Financial rewards for his agent
I’d go for option 4
…..Pagan

15th January 2018 at 8:20 pm #12625As for Evans, I was annoyed when we sold him to be honest. He’s not good enough to start for you but he’d be a quality back up. Really solid defender.

15th January 2018 at 8:26 pm #12628Circa £350k pw for Sanchez if true is ridiculous Conte was allegedly interested but the club told him they wouldn’t sanction those sort of wages but if United can afford it as I’m sure they can it’s there business and if Sanchez helps them win a PL title or the CL it will be money well spent.
I’m a tad surprised at Sanchez though if it was about winning trophies no disrespect to United but you would have thought he would have gone to City even though they seemingly aren’t prepared to go above £20m or pay him circa £350k pw.
Even Rio told him to go to City.?

15th January 2018 at 8:38 pm #12633But if the only thing that mattered was the chance of winning trophies currently, Hazard, Kane, Pogba, Alli, Kante, would all be knocking on Pep’s door begging him to sign them. It’s just never as simple as that! It didn’t happen when Utd were the top dogs and it isn’t going to happen today

15th January 2018 at 8:39 pm #12636Does money even come into it though? K
Utd have money to burn. Sanchez would vastly improve utd. He is top top class. Left or right , he would make a difference for utd. Who cares how much the package is if you have the money. The chap is a brilliant player and I’d be delighted if I was a utd fan
