Sean, RLC blows hot and cold he’s having a decent season at Palace but with the best will in the world playing for Palace is not like playing for Chelsea.
If RLC continues to develop at Palace he will come back to Chelsea in the Summer and get a chance to prove to Conte he’s worth a place in the squad and given that Chelsea will probably play circa 60 games next season both Barkley and RLC if he’s part of the squad will get game time.
Barkley is currently further forward in his career than RLC imo he has 22 full England caps and last season he had more assists than Coutinho, Dele Alli and David Silva and the previous season scored a goal every 4 games and playing regularly with better players should help lift his game.
As Pagan has suggested even if Barkley flops in two years time Chelsea will probably still make a healthy profit on him. Absolute no brainer deal imo.
You’ll all get used to Wise fans posting style soon he rarely if ever has anything positive to say about all things Chelsea.?

6th January 2018 at 5:09 pm #11261AnonymousI just don’t understand why we’d want Mahrez as a replacement for Coutinho. Whoever we buy has to be able to play as a CM. Last seaosn we’d have been replacing a Mahrez type position but that was then. So I just don’t see us going for him. As for Ozil, I’d be stunned if Klopp were interested in him, he’s got a very poor work-rate and that just wouldn’t fit our philosophy.
Whatever happens, I can’t stress how much we need to sign his replacement this window. If there is any messing about we’ll be throwing away a top 4 spot.

6th January 2018 at 5:42 pm #11265It will be very difficult to buy an appropriate replacement for Coutinho in this window.
Mahrez can’t effectively play the midfield role Coutinho does.
I suspect that 1) Liverpool agreed to let Coutinho go in January and 2) With Β£108m net inc the VVD purchase already spent by Klopp with Keita still to come at circa Β£60m there had to be a bit of a balancing of the books.
Β£145m is a great price for Coutinho and pays for both VVD and Keita and pushes Klopp’s net spend inc the incoming Keita to plus circa Β£25m nett.

6th January 2018 at 6:04 pm #11271AnonymousIt’s great money but Keita isn’t a good replacement for Coutinho in my mind. He’s a player that we needed to sign while either keeping Coutinho or gettign ina decent replacement.
The deal is agreed at Β£142m and it’s very early in the window, I just don’t beleive that the club would let this happen without replacing him. It’s effectively throwing away this season. The delayed signings of Keita and Van Dijk have already hampered our development enough. There are only so many things you can put on the back burner before you ruin a good project.
I’m wondering if we’ll go back in for Lemar. Maybe after a less than stellar first half to this new season might make Monaco think again regards their insane demands. Maybe we could pick him up for Β£40-50m?

6th January 2018 at 6:25 pm #11272Mak, I wasn’t suggesting Keita was a replacement for Coutinho mate but if you add the circa Β£60m committed to Keita to the Β£108m nett that Klopp has already spent after the aquisition of VVD there would have needed to be a balancing of the books albeit that could have waited until the Summer.
I suspect Coutinho was promised a January exit to Barca if he got his head down which in fairness he did.
Will Monaco sell Lemar this January I’m not sure and probably not for considerably less than they were offered for him in the Summer.

6th January 2018 at 6:46 pm #11277Jeeze ! Klopp would be mad not to accept that. Tbh I didn’t think they would get north of 100m. He’s good but not quite in KDBs or Silvas class imo. Great money for liverpool. At least be wont be able to score against us.

6th January 2018 at 6:57 pm #11280Yes Mav, I know, but I was saying Coutiniho imo isn’t as good as him. Ie there are better players in the PL. I didn’t say Silva was worth that money.

6th January 2018 at 8:46 pm #11309Countinho is a wonderful player who has rare talent to find these days. That is why Barca are prepared to pay Β£142m. But i feel they are getting him on the cheap still. He is 25, and is a pure talent. players of his caliber are a rare type of breed these days. Today we have work-horses who only run and play Physical. Look at Bakayoko and co. If i was Liverpool, i would have demanded Β£180m.

6th January 2018 at 9:09 pm #11319I think we can safely assume that Liverpool got the best fee they possibly could out of Barca for Coutinho. Crazy money but a player is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for them.

6th January 2018 at 9:21 pm #11328Wise fan, you’re wrong mate a player is only worth what another club is prepared to pay for them.
Liverpool could have set Coutinho’s price at Β£250m but Barca wouldn’t have paid it.

6th January 2018 at 9:47 pm #11337And then Barca won’t get Coutinho either. Also you could safely said a player is worth the length of their co tract. And so far Coutinho has four more years left. Which means Barca have to pay what Liverpool asks or wait until 2022 before they get their man on Bosman.

6th January 2018 at 10:36 pm #11351Couthino played 90% of his Liverpool career out left. He pushed into the centre a bit this season but sometimes it didnβt work like West Brom at home. Lalanna played there most of last season. Ox played there a few times this season.
Mahrez is a very good player. He can play wide left or right and has played number ten for Leicester since Puel came in.
Look what is front of whoever comes in. Salah, mane, Firmino etc. pace and movement in abduance. If Mahrez came in, I think Klopp would get the best out of him just like he is with Ox at the minute. Huge improvement in Ox over last few months. Klopp loves fast paced attacking players and thatβs what Mahrez is.id have him before Lemar as he can play cl football and knows the pl.
