5th January 2018 at 5:35 pm #11137Brilliant signing by Chelsea a 24 year old homegrown England international who was at the top of the assists chart last season on a five and a half year contract for £15m. And he’s going to wear Frank’s No 8 shirt too. ?

5th January 2018 at 6:01 pm #11141Chelsea man and nine, do you think he will be a starter? I just can’t see especially if Pedro and William aren’t in Chelsea’s starting 11.
15m is a no brained though. If he fails then it’s not to much money in this climate
I just don’t think Barkley has played well in years. I can’t see were he will play
Huge compliment to give him the number 8 shirt. Drinkwater rarely plays and I can see the same happening to Barkley but I could be totally wrong lads_____________________________

5th January 2018 at 6:52 pm #11142Perfect for a 5 man midfield Sean when we play 3/5/2 and a different option when we play 3/4/2/1.
Chelsea will play 60 odd games a season he will get plenty of game time.
Great option more attacking than Bakayoko and Drinkwater and an entirely different option to Cesc.
In the Summer he was worth £35m. I reckon this deal was agreed between Chelsea and Barkley in the Summer saving Chelsea £20m in a period he wouldn’t be fit to play anyway.
Great business by the club imo at £15m. But he has to get 100% fit first.

I have never been a fan of Barkley.and i have been skeptical about his signing in the past. And nothing has changed from my opinion. Will he be a starter? I agree with you he is likely to be a sub impact. But Chelsea isn’t as predictable as we once was. How many of us thought Moses will be a regular? Who saw Christensen deposing Luiz this season in the summer? He isn’t guaranteed to start. But he has a chance to fight. But at the end of the day he is a Chelsea player and will have my undivided loyalty and support.

5th January 2018 at 9:30 pm #11162Barkley? just imagine how Loftus-Cheek will be feeling? just when he was playing superbly week in week out, he gets Barkley who hasn’t played for almost 7 months blocking his route to first team football? that money should have better spent at another striker since we don’t have a good striker. our striker is hit and miss, yet we are acquiring another attacking midfielder when we have Pedro, Hazard, Willian and Musonda. is that necessary? then we have two awful strikers then we are not looking to strengthen that. we have only one fit left wing-back but we are not looking to strengthen.

5th January 2018 at 9:50 pm #11168Wise fan. At £15m Barkley who was at the top of the assists chart last season is a bargain and I doubt spending £15m on Barkley will prevent Chelsea signing a striker if there’s one available that Chelsea want to sign and how do you know we aren’t looking to strengthen in the left wing back area?

6th January 2018 at 9:15 am #11195Wise man very good point about Loftus-Cheek. He’s a similar player to Barkley and looks a real prospect
When couthino goes, I’d take Mahrez all day

I don’t think Mahrez is what Liverpool may need if you lose Coutinho. You have two attacking wide players in Mane and Salah. All you need is a central attacking playmaker which Coutinho is. I won’t be surprised if Liverpool goes for Ozil, i could clearly understand why Klopp would want. Mahrez is a great player, but he likes to come from the right hand side. The same position occupied by Salah and i don’t think if any Liverpool fan would swap that for Mahrez. C.Puel tried to use him as a No10 but it couldn’t work as he was less effective in that position. And Liverpool play 4-3-3. Three attackers plus three central midfielders.

6th January 2018 at 10:00 am #11208Absolutely bitterness…. I’ve always wanted to be on the Simpsons, for years I’ve been trying, then some pouncy money grabbing footballer comes along and gets to appear on it just because he signsfor the 2nd best team in West London… it’s unfair!

6th January 2018 at 10:52 am #11223Good points Chelsea man but couthino plays on the left a fair bit aswell.
I would still take him. Couthino actually played better on the left for us then in the centre
Either way it’s a massive loss no matter how much we get for him mate
Just makes no sense to sell now.

6th January 2018 at 12:10 pm #11230Barkley is a great deal for Chelsea, £15m is nothing today (more on that later) a couple of seasons at Chelsea with a chance to either impress or just be on the periphery. If he impresses it’s a great deal, if not there’s no way we’ll lose money.
Spend most of my spare time round grass root sports, you see teams struggling to buy kits, as they try to keep the cost to parents as low as possible, teams in a mismatch of kits, poor facilities etc. then you see transfer fees and player salaries at what they are and you think where’s the connection between the two ends of the spectrum.
I’d love to see a % levy on transfer fees going to grass roots facilities, none to be spent on the FA admin, they waste enough, they have to show where the money goes and make sure it makes a difference…Pagan
