12th December 2023 at 10:01 pm #211344One of United’s problems imo is Fernandes as captain. Just get the wrong vibes.
Could be no CL next season .
I’m sure that is a prerequisite for Ten Hag.
I think he has to beat Liverpool or he’s in major trouble and Fernandes is suspended for that.
The tabloids are going to have a field day._____________________________

13th December 2023 at 5:01 am #211347It’s a disgrace that Utd couldn’t manage 2nd in that group.
Maybe they do need to fire Ten Haag but after that, the core players have mostly got to go too.
for sale signs on the training ground. Clean house!_____________________________

13th December 2023 at 8:43 am #211348Awful from Utd. Needed a win and had 1 shot on target. Throw absolutely everything at them even if it means getting countered and losing 0-4. Nothing to lose. At this point, it’s hard to see how Ten Hag turns this around.
Liverpool games seem to have become a defining point in recent Utd managers’ careers, for good and bad. Mourinho and Ole both going not long after awful games against Liverpool and Ten Hag actually getting things turned around at home to Liverpool last season after a poor start. I can’t help but feel we’re in for another defining point this weekend for Ten hag and not for Ten Hag’s benefit this time.

13th December 2023 at 9:02 am #211349One thing all the top teams have or can turn on when needed is intensity. Dont think I have seen that in a Utd team since Fergie, at least not consistenly. From what I read Ten Hag favours this sort of style but clearly isnt getting it out from the players.
Until Utd change their whole indentity I dont think it matters who is manager. The problems I suspect lie a level above that role.

13th December 2023 at 9:32 am #211350Personally, I’ve always thought there’s only so much those off the pitch can do once the players are on the pitch and the man in black blows the whistle… once that whistle goes, the players need to step up and act like the professionals they’re paid fortunes to be!
Yes, ETH has had 18 months or so, numerous transfer windows, and spent 400 million plus on players of his choosing, and indications are his out of his depth and/or the players don’t want to play for him (although that bigs the question of why did the players sign for him in the first place?)…
But the performance last night… almost feeing sorry for Sweedy!!

13th December 2023 at 9:34 am #211351At least we’ve got a bit of a lead in the country co-efficients… although I don’t think they’ll update them until this weeks fixtures are done… the Prem should be good for 5 spots still…

13th December 2023 at 10:29 am #211352The players need to be fecked out first before the manager but how can he start martial again after Newcastle? Play a youth player instead of martial . I was astounded he started v Bournemouth.
Just the lack of effort from some players is criminal. They canβt be coached.
I really donβt think sacking the manager is the answer.

13th December 2023 at 10:56 am #211354As strange as it might sound, Man Utd’s spending power has probably exacerbated things. Because the club has still been able to spend big bucks on players and because the revenues are still consistent, the club is arguably too comfortable and has not been able to properly reset. It always knows that if things aren’t going great it can always reach for the wallet and spend big on a player, and that’s tended to be disastrous and just gives the players more power being on big contracts which I think inevitably makes the managers job more difficult. If you look at Arsenal they didn’t have that luxury and the club was able to be reset properly and they’ve actually now benefitted from it. Liverpool had the disastrous owners which nearly put the club on the brink and I think that helped concentrate the minds of the new owners and the club to get things right.
If you really wanted the pipe dream of Ten Hag to work, you needed the club to lose that financial muscle so making the club focus minds on then getting the best young players they could, maybe establishing a new wage structure, etc and then playing the long game and the fans would then naturally be more accepting of that. But this is what keeps happening at the club – they want to make a long term managerial appointment and then undermine that because of their financial muscle and make big money signings who I think inevitably become more powerful, and I don’t think enough due diligence was done on such players and it’s a rinse and repeat exercise.

13th December 2023 at 5:05 pm #211356Mikus. A very well thought out post I agree with the thrust of what you say.
I would couple this with a belief in divine right for success which doesn’t exist. Its about hard work and application as is in all walks of life.Nine changes for us tonight. I wish it was eleven. The result doesn’t matter. Just no more injuries.

13th December 2023 at 6:46 pm #211357HT One up. Excellent goal by Hamilton.. who I had never heard of. Ref could give a little more protection but not bad for a non event. Good to give some players a full 90 minutes. Phillips looks OK but is he good enough? Hard to say. I’d like him to dominate more but we’ll see.

13th December 2023 at 7:10 pm #211358Whatever the result of this game is the contrast with United last night is that we have made nine changes with some young players but the team play in the same disciplined way. With United the way they play changes from game to game. I think this may be Uniteds main problem. Down to the manager?
