Of course he’s in trouble Adlab. You can’t lose that many games and not be under pressure. Do I think he’s under any immediate threat of being sacked? No I don’t. There’s no immediate, obvious replacement out there, firstly. Secondly, we’re in the process of a new minority shareholder coming in who will be given complete sporting control. He might have his own ideas so it’s pointless acting now until they come in.
If things continue to follow this trend for a few more weeks, the club may be left with no choice but to act to halt the decline. I don’t think we’re quite there yet though.

8th November 2023 at 10:17 pm #210718Spot on Sean. Utd looked very good until the red. Both pens ridiculous but at least consistent in their awarding. That seems to be the deal now with handball in the CL.

8th November 2023 at 10:19 pm #210719Something is not right there with Varane, though. Why is he starting Maguire and Evans when Varane is sitting on the bench? Why is Mount on the bench? So many questions.

8th November 2023 at 10:32 pm #210721Didn’t see the game, but overall Utd look they did at the end of Ole’s reign where they’re just rudderlessly ticking over imo. They’ll still win the odd game, but to me there doesn’t seem to be a defined strategy, so I just don’t think you know what you’re going to get.
For me the jig is up with Ten Hag, there’s just no obvious candidate to take over. I’d bring in an interim manager who is a good man manager in the same way Chelsea appointed Guus Hiddink some years ago.

8th November 2023 at 10:32 pm #210722Ye Ed, did well to go ahead 3-2 then two bad mistakes for the last two goals. As Alfie said, just clear it. With ten men everything has to be perfect with not one mistake at the back

8th November 2023 at 10:34 pm #210723Easier said than done on the last part Mikus. It’s a bit like saying “Chelsea should just go out and bring in a cheap 20 goal a season striker.”

8th November 2023 at 10:35 pm #210724We should have played Ange-ball when we went down to 10. Just play a ridiculously high line, get battered then at least Ten Hag could come away being declared a genius 😄

8th November 2023 at 10:38 pm #210725There’s got to be someone out there Ed who could lift these players and is a good man manager even if they’re not top drawer.

8th November 2023 at 10:48 pm #210726There might be, but would you trust this lot to:
1. Identify that man?
2. Entice that man to join on an interim basis? The potential names are not exactly rolling off the tongue either.

8th November 2023 at 11:51 pm #210727Not sure where this theory that Ten Hag is a poor man manager. Last season with Sancho disciplinary issues, he sent him away to get his act together and get his mind back in to football.
After the Brentford loss last season, Ten Hag told the players they didn’t cover enough ground in comparison to Brentford. He then sent the players on a run to make up for the loss ground compared to Brentford. He joined in with them.
Sancho literally has reverted back to his old ways and Ten Hag has had enough. How many chances does he expect to give Sancho. Ferguson got rid of quality players for less. So have Klopp and Pep.

9th November 2023 at 5:49 am #210728Just seen the highlights agree with everyone on here no way a red card and very harsh penalties too.
Went on the TT utd page as that’s always entertaining after a Utd loss and it seems the general concenus (amid all the swearing and name calling) is that Varane has “checked out” already for his predicted transfer to Saudi. I think his body is so broken he cannot play to the standard anymore and Real knew this would happen hence selling him. Why didn’t Utd forsee this when every fan probably predicted it? And then put him on 325k or something!
As for Mount, no idea. Seems very odd to pay so much and then rarely play him. You would think he’d be a better option than Erikson.
Maybe Ten Hag has lost the dressing room with his strict discipline route, but to be honest with the personalities Utd have its needed. Sancho was known to be an arse in Germany so why did Utd pay so much for him? Did they research him enough? But at the end the squad will always win and the manager is the one that loses his job.

9th November 2023 at 6:10 am #210729All spot on Threeps. I’ve suspected for a while that his treatment of Sancho (which I agree with) is part of what’s caused this season’s decline. He’s (Sancho) bound to have friends in the squad and if a few turn against the manager, as appears the case, the whole thing collapses. He’s made mistakes in the transfer market but I don’t think that happens with the right structure around him.
The only way to rid the squad of that kind of mentality is to stick with him and be willing to suffer short term for long term gain. The problem with that is that it’s an expensive fix to replace all the bad apples, a lot of which are on big, long contracts. The quick fix is to bring in a nice manager who can “get them playing with a smile on their face again” which is code for bringing in a soft touch who will let them do what they want.

Problem is Ten Hag doesn’t have the status of those three managers. Pretty sure if they said they want someone out they would be backed no matter what, does Ten Hag demand such authority and respect from his employers?
I actually feel sorry for him, I think he’s in the right with needing to sort out the bad personalities, just think he’ll be the one that looses in the end.

9th November 2023 at 7:05 am #210731The last handball was the most obvious, as the ball travelled a fair distance, his arm was away from his body and the arm touched the ball. Ref didn’t give it and VAR cleared it.
Sorry, but they aren’t consistent. Two out of three were given but the one where he had ages to get his arm out of the way wasn’t.

9th November 2023 at 7:10 am #210732Out of interest, what are Sancho’s old ways?
Ten Hag said he had a poor training session or whatever it was and Sancho said no he didn’t.
Is Ten Hag expecting an apology for poor training or for having a difference of opinion? What are the old ways?

9th November 2023 at 7:27 am #210733Alfie, there were numerous reports about Sancho being bad with timekeeping while at Dortmund. He was sent to train with the reserves in his first season for continuing to turn up late.
I missed the last handball Alfie. I’ll check it out. But, if that’s the case, it just adds to a shambolic performance from the ref. The offside for their goal looked pretty blatant too and wasn’t even looked at.

9th November 2023 at 9:21 am #210734If your sancho, you do what maguire did and get your head down and don’t moan. I admire maguire for the way he has gone about being stripped of captaincy etc
Sancho is in the wrong here. He should never play for utd again. The manager needs to be supported unlike Jose with Pogba

But if they can get someone like that Ed, if they’re clever about it, they can keep some players onside for a bit, then ruthlessly offload them at the next transfer window and bring in someone else better. Even if you have to take a big loss on them. That’s how the club can move forward. What has really exacerbated the situation for Ten Hag is that the new players signed who could have potentially frozen/pushed others out have not been good enough and Ten Hag now has little to no options left to turn things around so is feeling the pressure. One can sympathise for him to a degree, but then you can’t just blame the club, you have to know roughly what you’re walking into and the challenges you’re going to face at a big club. It’s a two way street.

9th November 2023 at 10:09 am #210736Just watched the highlights of the United game. Two ridiculous penalties and a red which should have been a yellow with a strong warning- once more and off.
Ed. I suggested some time ago that I wasn’t convinced of Varane mainly due to injury issues and hence holding back. I thought that was shown last night.
Also, sadly, Maguire is well past his best.
Accepting there are bad injuries to key defenders I believe Ten Hag has been unlucky. But as Napoleon said when asked would you prefer a good general or a lucky general he replied a lucky general 🤔 The only man who could replace Ten Hag is Ancelotti. Otherwise they’ll have to stick with Ten Hag._____________________________
