Chuky…like I said before the game…England will huff and puff and the Italians will do what they do.
Southgate did not have the foresight to understand the Italians would not let us play our slow negative game plan. We have talented players but time after time we cannot put a team together to win a trophy, maybe we should get the women to help us!!!
Nine…I fell out of love with International football because there is too much seriously bad management, not withstanding alleged corrupt dealings, fan behaviour, interference with Domestic fixtures and I would ban the lot of them for two years until they find a better way of planning and organising them…….sack the “suits” for this period without pay as well!!!! never happen of course they are all too deeply entrenched_____________________________

24th September 2022 at 10:01 pm #199212Brian, that’s exactly one of the angles I’m coming from; chalk and cheese from team performances. It’s all well and good to put away a lower team but when it comes to serious opposition, we don’t stand tall.
I’ve not seen it in decades.
There’s no stand out Leader for one. What I do perceive though is duty for the sake of it than heart and passion and playing for the 3 Lions.
So yes, rightly so within my right with all the justification (not that there’s absolute no requisition what so ever as one is entitled to their own stance and opinion).

25th September 2022 at 8:12 am #199213Nil, I don’t have any problems with anyone not being a fan of international football.
FIFA extended the international breaks to 2 weeks to fit in more games in that 2 week period in order to condense the number of breaks in one season and it applies to all Leagues.
My point really is that international football is not going to go away, the players want to play for their countries and take part in World Cups and there has to be an acceptance of that.
Like you though I’m looking forward to the return of the PL next Saturday. 😊

26th September 2022 at 9:20 am #199218Nine..that is the problem though…the “fitting in ” bit. I am more cynical than you as well, I do not think a lot of players care that much, more like a break in routine and doing something different from club football. The big risk to these jaunts is an injury risk to players when there is no need, the Club always looses out and they pay the wages along with the fans.. We will have to respectfully disagree on this but I do agree, unfortunately, they are not going to go away.

26th September 2022 at 10:19 am #199220Brian, this is a FIFA issue if there are going to be less internationals FIFA have to reduce them for every country.
“I do not think a lot of players care that much, more like a break in routine and doing something different from club football. The big risk to these jaunts is an injury risk to players when there is no need.”
Brian players can decline the call from their country they don’t, I suspect that comes down to more than a difference in routine.
Just 2 games prior to the start of the World Cup Finals I would class as necessary rather than a jaunt.
I think this has all been done to death now. I get that a lot of fans don’t like international football and that’s their right and the same arguments are always trotted out to support that view ie too many internationals, disruption to the PL,injury risk to Club players that prevent them playing in critical games for their Clubs in the PL and I’m sympathetic to all of that but we’re all going around in circles now.
Generally players want to play for their countries and they want to play in the World Cup Finals and Euro Finals and to do that there will always have to be qualifying games and friendlies to prepare for those Finals.
Last word from me on this now.Cheers 9’s
