1997, the transfer record was broken by the Brazilian striker Ronaldoβs transfer, 20 years later the transfer record is 10 times that.
In 97 a loaf of bread was 52p and a litre of petrol was 60p, football is far outstripping the cost of living.
Football surely canβt sustain this madness…Pagan

23rd January 2018 at 4:02 pm #13558I wouldn’t care a jot what people would say after a defeat it meant I was still sat top of the tree and over a dozen points ahead of my nearest challengers.
It’s nothing personal too albeit the usual ‘build them up then take them down’.
That’s how they all work, frustratingly.

We all know who the press supports. United first and foremost. Then the Trinity papers United and Arsenal. The Sun ? Well not Liverpool.
Daily Mail? Massively United.Non for City and Chelsea.
Sky= Sky United plus Liverpool via pundits and presenters
BT = Liverpool_____________________________

23rd January 2018 at 4:32 pm #13564Ok i can understand why the City lose is different from that of Liverpool. City has been unbeaten and had been sweeping teams aside for fun. until Palace put a break to their winning streak. when a team has 20 wins and two draws in 22 games they have played in this season. they are hardly beatable. if i was a City fan i would have taken that a compliment rather than annoyed. besides that, Liverpool had been at their absolute best that day, and rightfully deserved their praise. credit also goes to City and Pep for not sitting back but rather going for the win, even though they were under no pressure. both City and Liverpool have a reputation of being attacking teams, and both Pep and Klopp lived up to their reputation.
Adlab, i do see where you are coming from. there currently alot of ex United and Liverpool pros in the Sky-sport pundit scene. and any loss that City suffers would be mentioned. you have got that parity, and like i said you should take it as a compliment rather than some one knocking your achievement. when the entire Premier league is praying for your loss. isn’t that wonderful? but that said Liverpool fully deserved their win and plaudits they got that day.

23rd January 2018 at 4:44 pm #13567Yeah, you might be right Adlab re BT Sport; might have summat to do with their initial launch year and our 13/14 season π :-D.
But I would rather something like Silverware was won than popularity mate. Believe, that’ll serve you with more happiness and joy.

23rd January 2018 at 4:46 pm #13568Chelseaman. I just get so cross. I have just watched Sky sports transfer centre and all they can talk about is where Sanchez will play. Not a word about how much they are paying.
Before you know it they will be claiming he is a United academy product. Just like they seem to forget the Β£56m for Martial. They couple him with Rashford. We spend Β£45m – a lot – on Walker and it is bad for football.
Wait til Chelsea make a signing how long before the ” big spending ” comes out. Never applies to United who despite their turnover have minimal profits and massive debt. That never gets a mention. We have a modest profit and no debt. We just get “petro dollars”._____________________________

23rd January 2018 at 5:02 pm #13574Adlab – I really think you are seeing this wrong. Man City, and Pep, have had loads of praise (quite rightly, I may add) this season.. There has been plenty of talk both on TV and in the papers as to whether they are the best team ever and that doesn’t happen if people have an agenda against you. You losing last week to us was big news, of course it was, because you hadn’t lost all season. As Sean says above and Beni, the Liverpool defence have been getting pelters all season (again quite rightly!), and Klopp has copped his fair share of stick from all and sundry about his apparent inability to sort out the defensive problems. And alot of that stick has come from those ex-Liverpool pundits that you are talking about, like Carra, Murphy, redknapp and Souness
And I think the press love-in with Mourinho ended some time ago, if I’m honest. People are fed up with his miserable and arrogant demeanour, and I reckon he is seen as yesterday’s man and has been overtaken by the likes of Pep, Jurgen and Poch

23rd January 2018 at 5:13 pm #13575AnonymousThe press were starting up their “Can Klopp really get the sack” nonsense not too long ago. You see what you want to see really. you remember what you want but Liverpool get plenty of negative press.

23rd January 2018 at 7:01 pm #13581Have to agree with Hightown here. There’s been absolutely loads in the media about how much we’re spending on Sanchez. Sanchez’s wage goes up by about Β£100k every time I read a new article. It’s been done to death though about how much we’re paying for him. Nobody would watch sports channels if they just talked about the fee and wages all day, every day. The media have been pushing this “Pep or money” story for days which really doesn’t fit the whole United love-in you’re suggesting exists in the media Adlab.
As Hightown said, there have been so many stories about whether or not this City side are the best side ever and whether or not Guardiola is the best coach ever in the PL. All this without a single trophy to his name yet since arriving, mind. Hardly the sign of an agenda against City. Pep is much more of a media darling these days than Jose is. I think everyone is quite fed up of Jose now and are sharpening their pencils in preparation for the inevitable breakdown.
There are plenty of Utd pundits on TV but I sometimes wish there weren’t. IMO they’re harsher on us than anyone else. Same goes for the Liverpool pundits. Carragher and Co aren’t afraid to rip into Liverpool.

23rd January 2018 at 8:59 pm #13600AnonymousAye, the ex-Liverpool lads often feel they have something to prove, I think. I think you’re right about the media and Jose too. I don’t get a sense that they love any club in particular.

23rd January 2018 at 10:13 pm #13610Editor.
I have been watching for 58 years,.
Ever since Munich the press have been pro-Utd and thus by inference anti-City.
Most of the CITY writers in the MEN clearly are not pro City which frankly is incredible.Sanchez.
Who knows how much. I have it on very good authority that with image rights and NIC the COST TO UNITED is in excess ot Β£.5m a month. They are currently paying Ibrahimovic Β£367,000.
You dont hear much about this._____________________________

24th January 2018 at 6:23 am #13616Adlab, as others have said, it’s City’s turn at the moment. When you’re at the top, you’re there to be shot at. The media are desperate for a title race as it sells papers. Clearly, a City loss helps make that slightly more realistic (obviously not going to happen). The City fans misinterpret the increased hope of a tighter race for some anti-City agenda, which is just not there.
As good as City have been this season, I think the whole “best-ever” tag assigned to everything related to City this season has been a tad overused. But that’s the Utd fan inside me talking and, just like you do, I see the things I want to see. We all think we’re hard done by from the press mate but it’s rarely, if ever, the case.

24th January 2018 at 9:39 am #13625Giant fuss about not very much – just the usual froth of lazy journalism. If this upsets you we will have to take your shoelaces and belt away when there is a real story running.
Part and parcel of starting to be a big club fighting for honours – the United lads have had it for years.
