Too many in Parliament across all Parties following their own agendas mate. Whether a GE helps sort things out is open to conjecture but we’ll see.
To be fair though this is probably not the right thread for us to be discussing such things.?

30th October 2019 at 3:45 pm #51386There’s certainly a “clear and obvious error” involved with BREXIT so I would say it’s the perfect thread to to discuss both!! 🙂

30th October 2019 at 4:09 pm #51387The clear and obvious error was the original referendum. It should have been set up with a qualifing majority requirement ie the “winner” needed to get – say 60%. Thats what happens in most other countries and would avoid the nonsense we have now.
Clear and obvious error Mr Cameron

3rd November 2019 at 10:12 am #51720Well, the curse strikes again yesterday, and it turns out it was Mike Dean of all people who was the video assistant referee yesterday. that explains why the decisions against the Chelsea and Liverpool games where a soft penalty was given against the wish of the referee and a legitimate goal was ruled out for offside which wasn’t. if we are to have the perfect system, let the decision be with the referee who is on the ground, and get a trained officials who will only deal with the VAR system, and not the match day officials doubling also as VAR assistants. two we need to have a screen for the referee on the ground where he can go and check like they have in Italy. and that is why you have less controversy in Italy than in England.

3rd November 2019 at 10:53 am #51724AnonymousChelseman… If Jorginho hadn’t stuck out a leg, its no penalty. To me, when he made the kicking motion, I thought he was lucky to get away with it. watching it back I thought it was nailed on… Yep the player dived, the ref reacted to the dive instead of the foul.. because there was a foul. I thought ultimately VAR was correct. Never mind Chelsea should have been five nil up at that point… If we had lost two points yesterday, it wouldn’t have been VAR’s fault. it would simply lay at the feet of the players who failed to kill off the game.
New Balance…. Just get refs making the decision using the monitors. Guys up in the control room referring them back to a decision… But I guess for the angry middle age man, that wont be good enough… and managers and players and fans will react to that.
The other alternative is to mic the refs up… two very simple solutions to improve whats becoming a very useful feature to matches. Perhaps also having a timer on how long it takes to make a decision would help too… It just needs tweaking.

3rd November 2019 at 2:09 pm #51739A bit like the referendum, there just doesn’t seem to have been any kind of coherent plan on how to exactly implement it. In that case and VAR they’ve gone ahead first and done the thinking and details later. Like driving full steam ahead into a mine field and worrying about the mines later.

3rd November 2019 at 2:29 pm #51740If you’re armpits offside then you’re offside.?
Perhaps we now need to redefine the offside rule to only a part of the body that can score a goal can be offside?
That wouldn’t be the Arm pit though.
I remember a West Ham v Chelsea game from a couple of years ago at Upton Park when a Fabregas goal was deemed to be offside by the linesman and when Sky drew the line a miniscule part of Cesc’s knee was offside which would have been impossible for linesman to spot on in real time.
Under those circumstances it was the wrong decision but under VAR it would have been the right decision because a goal could be scored off the knee.
On the penalty against Chelsea the situation arose of of our own making I can’t make my mind up to whether the Ref should have been overuled on the basis of a clear and obvious error and the fact that it took Mike Dean took so long to rule on it at Stockley Park seems to reflect Frank’s view that it wasn’t a clear and obvious error.
Anyway it was given and it gave Chelsea an awkward 10 minutes when we should have already been home and dry and it came about because we messed around in our own penalty area and if you hang out a leg there’s every chance you’ll give the Referee/VAR a decision to make especially as so many players throw themselves to the ground when like they’ve been shot from the slightest contact.

3rd November 2019 at 3:18 pm #51744Thing is though Nine, it wasn’t that his armpit was offside – the whole fundamentals of the offside check are completely flawed. When they did the first check, Firmino was onside, so they drew a new offside line again to make it that he was offside. And that’s not to mention the flawed perspective of the line angles anyway. The whole thing is beyond a farce. Watch this from Andy Gray…

Except it wasn’t. I don’t believe the officials have an agenda against Liverpool, or City, or any team, but they have an agenda to back their fellow referees up or maybe to even out previous contentious decisions against a particular club. You could see in real time during the Liverpool game Atkinson (the VAR numpty for this game) actually change his line so that the original offside decision was correct.
The whole VAR is a crocked pile of crap that’s rotten to the core. It’s made the game worse. All you have to do is look to see what pundits, fans and now managers are saying. I really don’t get this give it time to iron out the mistakes nonsense, they need to remove it before it’s too late.

3rd November 2019 at 4:00 pm #51749Mikus/threeps, I wasn’t saying it was or it wasn’t offside lads that was the PL’s explanation which imo is a nonsense. Hence the smiley face!
The offside rule needs amending imo as I said above.
I doubt it will be and rightly or wrongly we’re probably stuck with VAR too it’s an IFAB worldwide iniative under the auspices of FIFA and it won’t get turned over by the PL.

3rd November 2019 at 4:25 pm #51753999, saying the assistant ref got the call wrong in the West Ham match is totally incorrect, he got the call bang on if you believe that a review system can be that accurate, however it was by pure luck.
I don’t want VAR, but as you say we are stuck with it, but it has to be used for what it was brought in for, clear and obvious mistakes, which translated should be decisions that the officials would be expected to get right in real time, not the somewhat flawed micro analysis we now have…Pagan

3rd November 2019 at 4:34 pm #51754Looking at the Andy Gray video, you can’t tell with the naked eye wether it’s offside or not for a few reasons,
1. The camera is not in line with the the last but one player
2. Where is the ball? If you can’t see it how do you know when it’s being kicked?
3. Frame rate. We’re judging movements that take thousandths of a second with a frame rate of the cameras that don’t allow for that accuracy.
4. What is the accuracy of perpendicularity to the touch lines?

I never said the Linesman got the call wrong in fact what I said was that when Sky stopped the action and drew the line a miniscule part of Cesc’s knee was offside!

3rd November 2019 at 4:49 pm #51758This is becoming plain nonsense. They may as well map out a grid of graph lines!
Football is played with feet. Why are these other body parts taken into the equation when they are ‘calibrating’. It’s a farce at the moment.
