There’s no conspiracy or outrage against Chelsea CM it was a tight one on either frame and it again calls into question the validity of VAR judging offside decisions based on millimetres and whether some tolerances shouldn’t be built in in favour of the attacker.

25th October 2019 at 8:22 am #50905At the end of the day, it was offside in the Chelsea game. It was very tight but the Ajax lad was offside and itβs no goal
Offside is offside in my opinion even if itβs by a whisker

25th October 2019 at 8:32 pm #50922I kinda agree Moos problem with that though is goals can be scored with the upper part of the body and the head.

25th October 2019 at 8:38 pm #50924No point in having technology if it is going to be interpreted by humans….what has changed. It is like smoke and mirrors analogy/ I would like it to work but they must find a way of stopping what is an increasing amount of debatable decisions…..this is not what it is supposed to do.

25th October 2019 at 8:42 pm #50925Here what you say Brian and that is the problem but technology is interpreted by humans in both Cricket and Rugby and it’s now accepted.

25th October 2019 at 8:54 pm #50927Nine…I maybe wrong with this but my recollections of the issues so far that mistakes are made by the human not the technology, although that needs to be improved as well.I feel that we have gone a step too far too quickly, the principle I accept the execution is questionable therefore not fit for purpose in my view. However, all is not lost if the powers that be sort the decision making a higher quality. It could be said, after all that effort if they had put the same effort into having Super Refs, the no nonsense types it could have been avoided in the first place!!

25th October 2019 at 9:31 pm #50928Technology should *always* be used as an aid, nothing more. But I think the problem is the technology is using us as opposed to us using the technology. What should have happened is what VAR was supposed to do – be used when clear errors had been found. But because the officials can now give offsides by the cm on screens, they are letting the technology use them rather them using the technology sparingly as and when needed for big errors. But then on other decisions, like fouls, the VAR officials are effectively rejecting the technology because they donβt want to harm the integrity of the on pitch referee. So we have this very bizarre inconsistency in the use of the technology. Weβre over using it, to the nth degree in one regard, and rejecting it in another.
My solution. Get the refs to use the pitch side monitors when they need to, either for another look themselves if unsure or theyβve been told to look again if something may have missed. But give the on pitch referee the final call. And for offsides, build in a tolerance that accounts for real life swinging body movements as opposed to theoretical absolutism.

26th October 2019 at 2:00 pm #50993I think the main difference between Rugby, tennis, cricket and football when it comes to VAR is the fact that when the offside decisions are given the ball is never shown. In Tennis and cricket itβs all about the ball, rugby itβs normally to to with the ball but in footy regarding offside which is probably one of the more controversial subjects itβs all about players position, showing the actual kicking of the ball may bring more clarity….Pagan

26th October 2019 at 7:37 pm #51050Not seen the latest controversies surrounding VAR.
I agree a way to improve is ‘still cameras’ persons placed pitch-side.
Tennis have persons to make a call whether the ball is in or out, so I don’t see why Football can implement this.
Relaying Communication generally is straight-forward with the Headset and Mic – just need the Camera in the right place lol π

26th October 2019 at 7:52 pm #51051VAR got right with the Hudson Odoi one. the was stupid enough to dive in this age where VAR is available but then again young and naivety got the better of him.

27th October 2019 at 10:51 pm #51188I don’t know how James was given that Penalty ? it was similar to the one that VAR has overturned yesterday against Hudson Odoi. yet they allowed that?

28th October 2019 at 4:03 pm #51234442, Stevo,
Itβs a strange phenomenon, and itβs always been the same, the top couple or three teams think that thereβs a conspiracy against them winning the league, whereas the rest of the league think the exact opposite and all decisions go their way….Pagan
