2nd January 2018 at 3:34 am #10823AnonymousI don’t think any of us are corporate lawyers but I would be surprised if what Nike did is not actionable. i think whether Liverpool bother is another story but Nike (briefly) laid claim to potentially Liverpools biggest asset. Would this have hurt our shirt sales in any meaningful way thoguh? I don’t think so as I think most fans think Coutinho is going soon enough. It’s probably the last we’ve heard of it but I have to say, a really nasty little trick from Nike. and ya, Can will go on a free and Sturridge. . Β£20m MAX.
Let’s just get comfortable with the idea that coutinho is on his way out the door. i think there’s a good chance it’s this month but obviously hope it won’t be until the summer. I only hope we’ve been workin overtime in finding a decent replacement for him.

2nd January 2018 at 7:31 am #10825Individual players may make a difference but at the end of the day if the club has the money, ambition and desire it matters little as the club will always find a way to re re-enforce or already probably have the required depth.

2nd January 2018 at 4:05 pm #10841Interestingly Coutinho is personally sponsored by Nike as he has a boot deal with them…..Pagan

2nd January 2018 at 4:39 pm #10842Big corporate giants like Nike don’t make mistakes like this, so it is difficult to see where it has come from other than Barcelona or Phil himself giving Nike the information. If that is the case then either or both of them are out of order. We all know he’s going to go in the summer which I believe everyone would accept, but if he does go in January then the club will have alot to answer for in my opinion.
And I don’t buy this latest ‘injury’ either…worrying times for Liverpool fans!

2nd January 2018 at 6:44 pm #10845Hightown, the Express are running with a story that Coutinho is on strike? If the agreement was that he could go in January that might be understandable otherwise it makes sense for everyone if he goes in the Summer he can’t play for Barca in the CL and Barca have all but won La Liga without him whilst he could still make a real contribution to Liverpool’s season.
Having said that if his head is already at Barca it probably make sense to come to a sensible agreement and let him go just as Southampton did with VVD.
Strange move by Nike who are a very professional company someone somewhere must have told them the deal was done and they jumped the gun.

2nd January 2018 at 9:36 pm #10882All seems simple to me
Personal sponsorship of Phil by Nike.
They know he is about to move and have a webpage ready to go with his image in a Barca shirt etc – and would have it sat in a safe space and then some spanner accidentally links it and makes it live.
Iβd bet the images arenβt even photoshopped, and he posed for them.
Heβs pushing for a move in January but neither club is as keen as he is.
His βinjuryβ will take most of January to recover and would be instantly fixed if the move goes through.
If Barca stump up the cash he can piss off now!

3rd January 2018 at 8:31 am #10895But beni, you must agree we will miss him, surely? He has been really good for us this season, and any replacement we get in will have to hit the ground running to adequately replace him. I also worry that Bobby’s form may be affected. He’s always played better when his mate Phil is on the pitch.

3rd January 2018 at 10:33 am #10905Liverpool should just refuse to sell now imho,it`s just over 4 months left to the end of the season anyway!

3rd January 2018 at 1:00 pm #10907Best for all if Coutinho stays until the end of season but we don’t know what was promised to him in the Summer.
However if he doesn’t want to be there and if Barca make an acceptable offer Liverpool need to do what Southampton did and move on.

Iβm actually optimistic for 2018 and hope Coutinho should he leave goes on a high with a trophy.
Care to speculate which one ? FA Cup maybe ?

3rd January 2018 at 3:48 pm #10919Ppt – being realistic, the only trophy he has much hope of winning is the FA Cup, though we won the Champions League in 2005 with a considerably worse team than we have now (Djimi Traore, Milan Baros, Igor Biscan anyone?). The problem there is that there are now many better other teams about than there were in 2005!!

3rd January 2018 at 6:26 pm #10934HH – I agree he would be missed but I hate seeing players moping around – barely even celebrating when the score. If playing for Liverpool is such a chore for him then Iβll drive him to Barcelona myself. Iβll even use new gaffer tape and clean out the boot of my car first.
If he doesnβt think playing for us is that special we should quickly dump him. Itβs like a cancer through a club.

3rd January 2018 at 10:54 pm #10995To be honest it will be a shame if and when Coutiniho leaves the Premiership. He’s a great player and imo the Premiership is a better place with great players in it, regardless of the clubs they play for. I wonder how long the lure of Barca and Real can hold away, is the Premiership even catching them up?

4th January 2018 at 12:21 am #10997Seconded Jim although I suspect Barca and Real given their stature and geography will always hold away with South American players.
