Exciting times for England Ed with the bevy of talent coming through there’s every chance of us making a real impact at the Euros in 2020.

23rd March 2019 at 5:21 am #36243Great for England and you certainly have to admire Southgates faith in youth unlike so many other shall we say cowardly coaches? Top young players will always perform better due to their energy and enthusiasm. As for Sterling brilliant as he definitely is the reason he is generally disliked is obvious to a lack of genuine or even false charisma. Can’t have everything I suppose. On another note cannot fathom why Dier and Henderson are in the team or even the squad. The rest I think deserve to play for England.

23rd March 2019 at 8:53 am #36245Agree with the Ed it’s nice to see Sterling beginning to hit his City form in an England shirt also agree with Rover playing both Dier and Henderson in the same team limits creativity which is something imo Southgate needs to look at.
All in all though another very good England performance Sancho is an exciting player, Rashford has to come back in and a very good cameo from CHO becoming the youngest English player to be used in a competitive game by England since Duncan Edwards and it looks like CHO will eventually make his mark in the England team too.
Southgate’s problem will be how to manage his embarrassment of riches but these are exciting times for England.
I have to say Southgate has surprised me I thought he got the job almost by default but he’s been terrific and is growing with the role.

23rd March 2019 at 9:44 am #36247I rather Henderson wasn’t in the team! As selfish as this comes across, he has now picked up an ankle injury whilst Trent himself is doubtful for next week.

23rd March 2019 at 10:16 am #36249This is the most excited I’ve been about an England side for a while. As much as we look short in the middle of the park, it’s worth remembering we have some real quality coming through there too. The likes of Phil Foden, Mason Mount, Harry Winks, Angel Gomes, James Garner all have real potential to be big players for England in the years to come.
People will point to the lack of success under the last so-called golden generation and will rightly refrain from getting too carried away but I think we have every reason to be cautiously optimistic about the England team over the coming years.

23rd March 2019 at 10:24 am #36250Nil, TTA joined the England squad with a back injury and was sent back to Liverpool for treatment by the Club and Henderson has a history of ankle injuries the last one picked up v Bayern.

23rd March 2019 at 10:53 am #36252It is gradually coming together but it’s objective to look beyond one or two players and the squad as a whole. Top of the Table and we’ve used our efforts from 2018 a springboard to push on which is a big plus.
I’m more than happy for Southgate to continue. I only wish they’d get the itinerary of these games sorted out once and for all without it interruption the domestic league as such an important time!

23rd March 2019 at 1:53 pm #36258Best thing to happen to the England set up in the last few years – Allardyce getting caught with his fingers in the till…..Pagan

23rd March 2019 at 2:47 pm #36262Thought Barkley did well last night too. Good buy at Β£15m and there haven’t been too many good buys at Chelsea of late.

23rd March 2019 at 5:54 pm #36267AnonymousI joke Nine but ya , behind the joke I honestly do hate internationals because I only feel they get in the way of real football.
It is annoying to have to wait another week for the PL. It doesn’t help that it’s a cracking fixture too and a potential title decider. Decider in the sense that if Liverpool don’t win and City do, it’s over. Not the other way around of course.

23rd March 2019 at 5:58 pm #36269I am not a fan of International football but the England squad, apart from 2/3 players plus the keeper looks as though they could make good progress. The pipeline is in place with more young talent to be drafted in, for me, it is the way forward but I still cannot get excited about it
Apart from Sterling, I thought kane did the leaders job well, we still have no creative talent in midfield. I thought Ali would have fitted that role but he drifts in/out too much, it looked as though he was carrying an injury, which means, he should not have been playing. The lad Sanch is worth watching. I am not confident we have a keeper of stature for WCup we need more than a shot stopper although Pickford is good at that but do not rate his positional play and distribution, this match was not testing enough and we will come against better teams. Walker..like at City..going forward he is a class act but defending he is a mistake waiting to happen. I would also like to see Keane and Stones as the CBs…..Just my view….you cannot be critical of a 5-0 win unless you are Pep!!!!

23rd March 2019 at 6:38 pm #36270Over the last twenty odd years English football seems to have followed European fashions in the buying of players for the domestic league, which ever nation was doing well or were deemed to be developing the best youth products we bought their players, some years it was French, then Portuguese, Italian, Spanish etc. well now the Europeans are looking at our youth, hopefully weβll follow that trend and retain our own youth in the teams that have developed them, we can only hope….Pagan

23rd March 2019 at 7:52 pm #36271The scheduling was my main problem. Didn’t really need a qualifier to be sandwiched in between a relatively critical point of the season for all teams.
Liverpool are in contention for 1st place and so that for me being a Liverpool supporter is my priority. Others may see it differently from their own angle and that’s them.
Unless it’s a tournament setting, I find these days Internationals to be a ‘ghost town’. Good for ITV to continuously provide coverage and that’s something that at least ignites a bit of spirit in a run up to an ‘event’.
If you’re generally a pure lover of Football, a ‘void’ of no domestic action for one Weekend during a season, practically for me is depression.

23rd March 2019 at 8:07 pm #36273Mr. Balance, UEFA/FIFA have to put the qualifiers in the domestic seasons, itβs the same for all the countries, maybe suggest to Klopp that he doesnβt buy any international players that way all your players would be fresh after the break giving you an advantage…Pagan

23rd March 2019 at 9:38 pm #36275Nine thumbing it up too. So don’t Chelsea have 4th place to fight for?
I know Fifa-Uefa-Fa. How about actually talking about it? I’m not Year 9 School to be ridiculed consistently by Pagan and Chucky.
