8th September 2017 at 8:47 am #4790Put the Internationals to one side, in my view there is a wider issue in the number of fixtures to be played in the first place when one team for instance is involved in a European Cup competition.
The Europa League is notorious for the amount of games entailed to win a competition and the Champions League after the group phase should then progress as a straight knock out competition.
I have read posts time and time again on message boards relating to these topics and not only do we just go round in circles, but both the FA Cup and the League Cup is quickly picked up on although on this occasion, nothing so far has been mentioned here though, some of us (in reason) have deviated from the original topic and question.

8th September 2017 at 1:15 pm #4799banjo, of course I get the number of games don’t increase but your plan elongates the elite players season because with club games not ending until the end of May/ begining of June in the case of CL Finalists based on your plan Qualifying games would have to have been crammed into the period from the end of May/ beginning of June until the beginning of July when the club’s pre seasons started.
Additionally the South American qualifiers play 18 games so 18 games would have to be fitted into 5/6 weeks maximum which with travel etc times would be impossible additionally it would give the elite players no close season break at all.
Those are the facts buddie!

8th September 2017 at 1:22 pm #4800new balance, personally I would much rather have my club were involved in the extra CL and EL games than not competing in Europe a la last season.
What does need to be looked at is the PL fixture schedules following CL/EL games particularly from the knock out stages because other major European Leagues give their club’s far more help with the scheduling of their league games than the PL give our club’s.

8th September 2017 at 1:32 pm #48019… dude, but you would be bunching up the club games in all empty “international” weeks… the leagues would be finishing in April or something… your “notion” of my idea would mean leaving all this two week “blanks” during the season…. 🙂

8th September 2017 at 2:32 pm #4803banjo, 18 South American qualifiers would take 9 weeks and there would still be international friendlies to be played during the season.
Anyway we’ve done this one to death now and even you admit it will never happen so probably time to move on.

8th September 2017 at 7:57 pm #4809999, I would agree to be involved in and compete in every domestic competition however not at the expense in my opinion in what is basically a long slog when it comes to both European competitions.
There are excessive games in both the EL and the CL and this I feel should be challenged.
I feel personally strongly about this because as mentioned in my early morning thoughts, both the FA and the League Cup are wrongly mistreated or at the very least regarded by certain clubs at the higher end of the Premier League.
I haven’t seen unfortunately so far in the time spent writing and reading posts any real constructive or positive solutions. So this sort of leaves me with an indication of this matter to accommodate England better being redundant.
Not all lost and positively we can all get our thinking caps on and hopefully thrash out some ideas -problem-solving I’m sure on here can be achievable.

9th September 2017 at 7:40 am #4811nb,all good points and it’s a tragedy the way that the prestige of the FA Cup has declined.
Unfortunately I can only see the problem getting bigger as the new UEFA President looks to broaden still further entry to their two major club competitions Chelsea for instance play the Champions of Azerbaijan next week.
But hand on heart I’m just pleased to be back in the CL and there’s some mouth watering home and aways to come v Atletico Madrid and Roma. Cheers 999
