Hi Sean, it’s far better to watch after a diet of Mourhino and Conte’s defensive tactics!!!!
We will take a few hidings along the way but if we play well and that happens I can live with that.
My 2 penny worth on the game, Liverpool had a clear onside goal ruled out incorrectly, as for the red cards your guess is as good as mine , next week same tackles won’t get a card, there is no consistancy from refs and VAR._____________________________

2nd October 2023 at 10:44 pm #209931Shines, I’d say at a push award a point each. Replay won’t happen. In all honesty it wouldn’t be right with the 2 sendings off.
Best to leave it as it is. I am glad though Pool officially are pushing hard on this and not letting it go. What I would wish for is the VAR ruling to be redesigned, transparent with audio and rethink the offside rule so that there aren’t these silly lines, armpits etc.
Significant improvement needed and I hope this weekend everybody connected are under scrutiny.

3rd October 2023 at 12:28 am #209933I had no problem with either of the reds, the Curtis one has been seen many a time. Nothing new there, studs up on the ball when it is a 50/50 challenge is just inviting that outcome to occur. Not all reds need to be intentional. The Jota one was two fair yellows, simple.
The disallowed goal continues to show that VAR is only as good as the human error part of it. There is no consistency in VAR simply because humans are always the one to make the final, often incorrect call.
I feel like FIFA need to make two very important decisions over the coming years. The handball laws are just simply all over the place. Make a ruling and stick with it, it seems like that rule gets changed every single season. The other is offside using VAR. this whole sleeve nonsense has gone on too long.

3rd October 2023 at 8:21 am #209935The basic concept of VAR means it is set up to BE inconsistent. They have said time and again that they don’t want to re-referee matches using VAR. They want to check for any reason why the initial call can be allowed and will only flag clear and obvious mistakes. So something subjective in minute one can be called completely differently to the exact same subjective incident 5 minutes later.
VAR needs to change to re-referee incidents, which will not 100% rule out inconsistencies or mistakes but it gives it a much better chance of doing so.

3rd October 2023 at 8:49 am #209936Real pity every week the discussions are about var and refereeing when we have seen some fantastic matches already this season

3rd October 2023 at 12:55 pm #209953I would be interested in some data collated comparing the leagues where VAR is used against the other mainstream leagues in England and thereafter mainstream Europe.
Who and where are there the most inaccurate calls made.

3rd October 2023 at 1:08 pm #209955Don’t know about a list of stats that prove VAR is the pants we all know it to be… but here’s some crazy offside calls over the years, including the Jan the Man vs Sunderland when Jan was about 6 yards inside the Spurs half when the ball was played…
As the article said, has to be the record for the most furthest “onside” offside given… 🙂

3rd October 2023 at 6:57 pm #209961Shocking. He knows he’s f up and he’s f. He didn’t even carry out a check. It’s like moving in to a busy lane before checking your mirror and indicating! 🙉

3rd October 2023 at 7:14 pm #209964Assistant referee 1: “All good. Both holding. Both holding”
Referee: “Yeah, leave it alone.”
Assistant referee 1: “Waiting. Delaying, delaying.”
VAR: “Possible offside, Diaz.”
Assistant referee 2: “Give it.”
Assistant referee1: “Coming back for the offside, mate.”
VAR: “Just checking the offside. Delay, delay.”
VAR: “Give the kick point, let’s go. Kick point please?”
Referee: “Yeah, no worries mate.”
Replay operator: “So, here we are.”
Referee: “Wait.”
Replay operator: “Just get a tight angle.”
VAR: “Yeah give me 2D line ready after this one from frame two after that.”
Replay operator: “So frame two there?”
VAR: “That’s fine. Perfect, yeah. 2D line on the left boot.”
Replay operator: “Let me just switch angles.”
VAR: “Romero, I think it is?”
Replay operator: “I think it might be this angle better? Happy with this angle?”
VAR: “Yep.”
Replay operator: “2D line on the boot?”
VAR: “2D line on the boot.”
Replay operator: “Yep, okay. So 2D line on the boot.”
VAR: “And stop. Check complete, check complete. That’s fine, perfect.”
Assistant referee 1: “Playing.”
Referee: “Cheers mate.”
VAR: “Thank you mate.”
Referee: “Well done boys, good process.”
Replay operator: “Wait, wait, wait, wait. The on-field decision was offside. Are you happy with this?”
Assistant VAR: “Yeah.”
Replay operator: “Are you happy with this?”
Assistant VAR: “Offside, goal, yeah. That’s wrong that, Daz.”
VAR: “What?”
Replay operator: “On-field decision was offside. Are you happy with this image? Yeah, it is onside. The image that we gave them is onside.”
Assistant VAR: “He’s playing him, he’s gone offside.
VAR: “Oh (expletive)”
Replay operator: “Delay, delay. Oli (PGMOL Hub Ops) saying to delay, Oli’s saying to delay.”
VAR: “Pardon?”
Replay operator: “Oli’s calling in to say delay the game. The decision is onside.”
VAR: “Can’t do anything.”
Replay operator: Oli’s saying to delay, Oli’s saying to delay.”
VAR: “Oli?”
Fourth official: “Yeah.”
Replay operator: “Delay the game, to delay the game? Stop the game.”
VAR: “They’ve started the game. Can’t do anything, can’t do anything.”
Assistant VAR: “Yeah they’ve restated. Yeah. No.”
VAR: “I can’t do anything. I can’t do anything. (Expletive).”

3rd October 2023 at 8:08 pm #209969Well it clears up a lot of nonsense. It’s all human and not computer. Human chooses the frame to use, human chooses the point of the body to draw the lines from.
Choosing the frame in tight calls is essential and was meant to be 100% correct as computer chosen, but that’s clearly not true.
