And so none of us have never made a mistake at work? Of course we have. Nobody died here.
A cock up plain and simple.A couple of seasons ago we played Wolves away. Boly scored for Wolves. He punched the ball into the net. Not picked up. We went on to win the league.
We’ve had “generous ” penalties so have Liverpool, United, Arsenal and others. VAR going for you in those instances. I never liked VAR or should I say the incompetents operating it.

2nd October 2023 at 12:31 pm #209908Itβs over now. Everyone needs to move on . You have to give spurs some credit, they play sone very very brave football. After7/8 games you can see what the coaches plan is.

2nd October 2023 at 12:59 pm #209910It is embarrassing and one has to move on cause everyone gets it at some point, but at the same time I also think it was necessary to a degree so they can get their act right and make sure these type of serious errors don’t happen again. Remember these guys are probably getting highly paid to do a relatively simple job meaning the Var guys not the ref. I also don’t believe they should send the ref to have a look at the sidelines monitor to review his decision cause that puts enormous pressure on him. Var should make the final decision with those calls.

2nd October 2023 at 1:04 pm #209911Sean. I do moan, as you say, about referees yes.
It’s very rare we see the referee has a good game. Partly I blame players and managers.
Football should follow the same code of conduct as rugby union with respect to talking to referees. Only the captain ._____________________________

2nd October 2023 at 1:07 pm #209912Not often I completely and totally agree with Adders, but he is 100% correct here… players/managers do not help themselves with their attitudes towards referees… we all certainly don’t want the ref’s to “take sides” but can a player be surprised after abusing a ref for 85 minutes he suddenly doesn’t get a 50/50 call go his way? I’m sure that’s happened…

2nd October 2023 at 2:00 pm #209913Yes there have been poor derisions before with VAR, but sorry this is more than that. This is a failure of even the most basic of competences as you can get. This incident didnβt really happen on the pitch it happened in the VAR HQ. And all the lines of protection failed. This canβt just be shrugged off. Something fundamental has to change. There is a lack of leadership and communication there for me which needs addressing. I also donβt quite get why the automatic system was rejected?

2nd October 2023 at 2:11 pm #209914Genuinely what is the point in this βRef Watchβ segment, they wheel in Dermot Gallagher to blindly back the referee and try to justify these horrific decisions that we see week in week out. pic.twitter.com/IvwWi270Zm

In a few weeks time, when a team gets a penalty for a similar incident…he will be justifying it by saying how the player changed the direction of the ball with his hand when it was heading towards the opposition player.

2nd October 2023 at 3:22 pm #209917I think something will have to change after this Sean. Itβs such a fundamental failure. Ideally weβd maybe see the introduction of an automatic system though that may cause consistency issues with it being adopted part way through a season. But at the very least, there have to be some structural changes.

This isn’t the 1st time VAR has blatantly failed on a similar level to Saturdays game. Look at the goal City scored against Fulham earlier this season, where a player who was offside by a few yards interfered with play and the goal was given. Liverpool have benefited from decisions too, for the example the Spurs game last season.
VAR has been a shambles. I believe the point is, why are officials getting so many decisions wrong.
There should have been the same level of uproar for the above. But there wasn’t because City ended up winning the game convincingly.

2nd October 2023 at 4:18 pm #209920CM, its actually quite an interesting analysis of the human psyche. I watch a lot of the air crash investigation series and you won’t belive some of the basic mistakes that can be made in the cockpit sometimes particularly with regards to communication. I think there have been situations where co pilots don’t speak up because of an authoritative environment. Even if the plane still crashes. People don’t like speaking up for fear of potentially upsetting someone even if they know they’re correct. Even if they’re about to crash. Remarkable really.

2nd October 2023 at 8:36 pm #209927CM even as the most biased City fan, how Ake was not offside is incredible. Win one, lose one last weekend v Wolves. Hwang should have been off with 2 yellow cards
