Cheers Pagan. That’s a shame – tough game away from home against Burnley – might have been a dream debut.

28th December 2017 at 9:17 pm #10338maverick, I don’t think currently Kane is interested in going to Real mate and even Β£210m probably wouldn’t be enough.

28th December 2017 at 9:20 pm #10339Nil, have you seen the Klopp interview? He didn’t sound like he wanted to rush Van Dijk into the Liverpool team acknowledging he’s been out for a while with injuries.

28th December 2017 at 9:23 pm #10340I haven’t Nine, no. I’m not aware of Van Dijk’s fitness levels too. I suppose it’s just about easing him in nicely.

28th December 2017 at 9:41 pm #10343I think this is a good deal for Liverpool. If they get 7 years out of him, and win a trophy or two on the process. Then it will be considered success. But this deal is good for Liverpool. They need him badly he is quality player. And quality players come with a cost. If i was a Liverpool fan i would be excited and ignore the fee. Whether the club pay Β£1 or Β£100m. We the fans will always enjoy the player’s performance not the money that is paid. Good luck to Liverpool and happy 2018, but not at our expense.?

29th December 2017 at 12:38 am #10346Read the first two pages and gave up.
The posts are like Les Dawson on the piano.Iβd rather Liverpool spend big on a player they need than fritter on 4 or 5 shite players like weβve done in the past.
The sum is irrelevant to me, as the market dictates the fee, but just disappointing as we generate our revenue but were bidding against teams that perhaps donβt.Anyway, we need him and he wants to come – so it will do for me.

29th December 2017 at 8:41 am #10349Liverpool’s last financials released in March 2017 showed a loss of Β£19.8m.
Seemingly only Liverpool were bidding for Van Dijk and the fee was driven by Southampton.
But Van Dijk was a player Liverpool coveted in an area that Liverpool needed to strengthen and consequently they were prepared to pay the Β£75m record transfer fee set by Southampton and the fall out between both club’s last Summer re an alleged illegal approach may well have been a factor in that record fee.
I suspect the fee will ultimately be funded by the sale of Coutinho to Barcelona.
Overall it looks a sensible move by Liverpool and they will be a better side with Van Dijk and eventually Keita in their team next season and you would think very close to being credible title challengers.

29th December 2017 at 9:33 am #10352I believe there’s something in that Nine re Coutinho – most probably though in the summer giving the club time to shop for new attacking players and potential replacements.
It makes you think we the number of attacking players we currently have, not one of them really steps forward to take a free-kick or is purely and simply has that quality to unlock defences and stick the ball in the back of the net.
Going forward, there’s likely to be changes and I can see Sturridge leaving. Salah and Mane are fine as either side flank players, but we would need a new hitman and an attacking player of that Coutinho ilk.

29th December 2017 at 9:55 am #10354Couthino will go and Iβll be superseded if we except anything less then 120m in the current market
Klopp has turned him into a consistent performer. 12 goals already this season after missing a few games
He will go with the blessing of th Liverpool fans
Spot on Beni. We need him. Peool are judging him on the last 4 months when he has been injured and downed tools
He has been one of the best CBS in the ol since he came
Nine, he wonβt be rushed as you say.

29th December 2017 at 11:00 am #10357Putting the fee to one side I agree with Sean VVD is a very good centre back and will improve Liverpool.
Coutinho will probably go in the Summer for circa Β£120m which all but covers the VVD fee and the Keita fee and overall Liverpool will be a stronger team.

29th December 2017 at 11:08 am #10359I wouldn’t bet somebody like Sanchez joining us in the midst of all this next summer. We have to have a good run though in the CL, try and win the FA Cup and ensure we finish 4th. There’s a chance then we’ll show even more ambition and I don’t think it’ll be just about balancing the books.

29th December 2017 at 11:16 am #10360Could be jumping the gun, but was also thinking about the confidence in FSG accepting this value set by the Saints as to whether this has been ignited by an agreement behind the scenes in principle between us and Barca.
I’m led to believe the deal broke down earlier in relation the instalments not being agreed beforehand.

29th December 2017 at 12:14 pm #10362People will soon forget the fee if he makes the difference for Liverpool at the back. It’s hard to measure value for money in this market. It does make Klopp look a bit silly though after saying this following the Pogba to Utd transfer:
“Other clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players. I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money.”
Bit hypocritical to 12 months later set a new world transfer fee record for a defender! I know Jose is the worst for this kind of hypocrisy but there’s no doubt they’re all far from innocent!

29th December 2017 at 12:16 pm #10363Sanchez to Pool is a big shout Nil. He’ll want extraordinary wages with moving on a free. I can’t see him leaving Arsenal for Liverpool but you never know

29th December 2017 at 12:19 pm #10364Ed, Andy Dunn who is a big Liverpool fan and writes for the Mirror said exactly the same as you in his page in the Mirror today ” βOther clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players. I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money.β
But all Managers are hypocrites when it suits them to be.?

29th December 2017 at 12:52 pm #10368Ed/Gents, bit of a pipe dream in reality and audacious, but was just thinking this bit of a lazy shot from Jason Cundy labelling Brendan Klopp, this to me is growing as a more improved team since his arrival back in October 2015.
It’s been slow, ok, but gradual in bringing in new faces and replacing old ones. I still think we just need that little bit more aggression out of Gini Wijnaldum but maybe a pairing with Naby Kieta will compliment him, and Van Dijk too.
It looks like the end of the road for Emre Can – looks like Milner could permanently be a fringe player for us and I think JK will invest more in Oxlaid. A question mark perhaps in the direction of Adam Lallana who seems to me after a long lay off to be surplus to requirements.
I think we’ve improved when you consider us offloading the examples of Origi and Lucas Leiva.
We almost have a fulcrum of individuals there so I don’t think should Coutinho leave us, we’ll just keep that position vacant – he’ll bring looking to brining in somebody top-class and enhance on what we already have.
