20th August 2019 at 1:48 pm #45945I agree with Bricky’s idea of the adoption of Clubs at lower League and Semi pro level.
It would help them survive and develop and be an outlet for the bigger Clubs to develop their young players. It requires both FA and UEFA approval though which wouldn’t be easy.

20th August 2019 at 3:23 pm #45955Stevesnakeeyes….just to answer your question. In 1944 the war was still on. The attraction of football then was to see all the “Guest players” City had them from all over the place Newcastle, Everton,Blackpool…I guess it was a case of wherever they were posted at, nobody travelled far then unless necessary. The ground was full of “uniforms” Somedody asked about house prices, My father bought our house in 1938 just before war started and I think it was £750, same house to day, probably £175000 in Blackley manchester

20th August 2019 at 3:49 pm #45972I’ve said this before, put the Prem teams into the FA Cup from round 1, that should spread some money around. Don’t go down the “there’s too many games” road, players on £300k a week, suck it up…..Pagan

20th August 2019 at 3:55 pm #45975I remember we had a “How to Improve the Cup” debate not that long ago. No problem with the big-boys entering Round 1, not as though they play their 1st 11 in Round 3 as it is anyway. The other idea I think would help the smaller clubs is to automatically give the lowest rank team in each pairing home-filed advantage.

20th August 2019 at 4:35 pm #45977thats a good shout too banjo, i was also thinking seeding for first 3 or 4 rounds to ensure as many david v goliath matches as possible.

20th August 2019 at 6:15 pm #45985The top Clubs entering the FA Cup in the 1st Round is unlikely to ever happen imo they already struggle with the number of games despite using squad players in the early rounds currently.
Nice idea but the top Clubs will never agree to it remember when United refused to field a scratch team in the early rounds of the Cup and preferred to drop out to play in the World Club Championships.

20th August 2019 at 7:11 pm #45988999, and there’s the problem in a nutshell, the top clubs have too much power, if they’re told to enter from round 1 then that’s what they should do, the FA is the governing body so they should make the rules.
Strangely the clubs in Europe don’t mind having those extra games….Pagan_____________________________

20th August 2019 at 8:03 pm #45989Pagan, I don’t think the FA would ask the Club’s to participate in the first round they’ve only just managed to introduce a mid season break which would potentially put that in jeopardy.
Typically in Spain 80 odd teams enter the Copa Del Rey whilst over 700 teams enter the FA Cup. Also English football is the only country to have two Cup competitions which adds more fixtures.
As I said nice idea but I can’t see it happening that’s just my ooinion. Hand on heart can you?

20th August 2019 at 8:41 pm #45993AnonymousI like 9’s idea of a babe as my physio and Mav everything still works ok mate, though I wouldn’t be adverse to the little blue pill if required.

20th August 2019 at 9:01 pm #45996999, does it really matter how many teams enter the competition? The top teams only play a maximum of 6 games with all but a the semifinalists only playing 4 games. It’s strange but you don’t hear the winners of the FA Cup complaining they’ve played more domestic games than their rivals.
As for the League cup, play the U23s from start to finish.
I’m sure the top earners wouldn’t mind the extra two games if was introduced, the choice being taking a wage cut to play in mainland Europe.
To be honest the teams have told us how they can’t possibly play so many games and now the players can’t cope, but they would willingly play more European games with the money that brings…..Pagan

20th August 2019 at 9:27 pm #45998Pagan, I’m not suggesting that with various tweaks from a practical viewpoint it couldn’t happen and as I said I think it’s a nice idea however I really can’t see it happening that’s just my opinion mate. Cheers 9’s
