Brian, I hope you’ve felt the love and respect for you on here over the last couple of days and because of that I hope you stay contributing to the site because the site is a better place when you do.
You could pick and choose the subjects you comment on and stay away from any “my Dad is bigger than your Dad” situations.
I would love to see you start a thread up on the greats that you’ve seen grace Maine Road both the City greats and the non City greats nobody on here has got your history experience or wisdom and it would be a great shame imo if you didn’t continue to share all that with us. Cheers 999

20th August 2019 at 8:57 am #45888Nine,, yes , I do appreciate it and I will be selective on entering viewpoints that become fractious. Most of us do not have full details as to what is really happening at our clubs anyway so we take our own view as if it was the only one. I have been guilty of this myself in the past. However, onwards and upwards and as long as my utterings do not bore you all too much it is just my way of some divergence and something else to discuss. The forum has good poster and it can be seen from recent events that it does care and wants to be fair to all. In the meantime I will endevour to highlight some of the players I and many others of my era have admired over the 75 years If you get fed up please stop me

20th August 2019 at 9:04 am #45890As i said it blows it my mind, to think your fisrt game at the City ground as a 10 yo must have come a very short time after the end of the war, what you have seen and experienced in life and football and how things have changed over the years is incredible to think of, here we are bemoaning changes like VAR!

20th August 2019 at 9:54 am #45897AnonymousMoos… CPO have a legit role in things Chelsea as 999 has outlined. Earls court wasnt viable size wise, we missed out on what would have been a truly iconic stadium at the old Battersea Power Station site. Neither were great options either really. The plans to redevelop the bridge are seriously impressive to be fair and there would be an increase in capacity on the same site. The Ball is in HMG court re visa for the our owner.
but From my experience in new grounds, Reading’s new stadium is a bus ride away on a hill in an industrial park. Between the football they play and the distance, the stadium is rarely filled.
I’d argue on a wider scale that the situation of a stadium is crucial to attendence. For example, Llanelli scarlets moved from Strady park to another area on the outskirts of town. Cant attract the same attendances they used to despite a great business model offsetting revenue loss from it. Plus the brand of rugby they play isnt quite up to the mark. So its not just football that is struggling when ground moves happen?1?!

20th August 2019 at 10:55 am #45909AnonymousBrian, I take my hat off to you.
I would love to sit in a pub with a couple of beers listening to the things you’ve seen and done while following City. I’ve done 57 years with Spurs and I have amazing memories starting from the 1961/2 season.

20th August 2019 at 11:20 am #45923AnonymousAs for a solution to this sad situation, I believe premiership teams should “Adopt” lower league teams. This should include help paying team wages, support with running costs and ground development as well as mutual exchange of players .
Every club in the PL when you look at the sponsorship deals, TV rights, kit deals etc are financially capable of “Adopting ” a less fortunate club and to not do this is both shameful and immoral._____________________________

May live for thousands of years but very rarely pass the age of a human 7 year old, mentally.

20th August 2019 at 11:41 am #45929I dont see a solution, more people choosing to support lower league teams would be a start though, so respect for you Brian for being the change you want to see.

20th August 2019 at 11:43 am #45930Don’t know about adopting, Bricky, then you’ll be very close to simply having “B” teams…
One “rule” I’d like to see is make the big-dogs play a couple of proper pre-season friendlies in the UK. It was a few years ago, in the late eighties/early ninties, Leyton Orient had the Goonies, Spuds and Chelski down at Brisbane Road for friendlies, a fiver a game, more than a few pints down the pub afterwards… wasn’t the worst way to waste few nights in early August and I’m sure gave the coffers at the O’s a bit of a boast!! None of this buggering off to your noodle sponsors homeland nonsense!!
