To be fair innocent until proven guilty but Maguire shouldn’t be putting himself in such a situation it will get sorted even if he’s guilty probably with a fine.

Always difficult to make any judgement with things like this until all the details come out. Stories now coming out that his sister was stabbed and he was defending her. If so, you can understand his reaction.

As with the recent Hudson-Odoi incident, I’ll wait to pass judgement until we know what actually happened.

Hold on Maguire is accused of attacking the police causing injuries to them and then trying to bribe them following a physical conflict with another group of men and is due to spend another night in jail I don’t think this can just be written off as just a raucous night out.

Nine, in fairness, you (rightfully) insisted anyone should wait with passing judgment on Hudson-Odoi until we knew the facts. The same applies here. If those earlier allegations are true, he’s an idiot. Lots of conflicting reports flying around now though.

Ed, my point really was to point out to those posters who were saying he’s only young and we’ve all been there was it was seemingly a bit more serious than that.

But you’re quite right which is why I followed up with my subsequent post of:

Either way, would it not be wiser for well known footballers to avoid such busy drinking cauldrons where they’re going to be easily recognised and potentially taunted? If I was famous I’d avoid such areas like the plague.

Mikus, it’s a fair point. Easier said than done, though, perhaps? Footballers can’t be expected to not go to restaurants, night clubs, cinemas etc for fear of being taunted. I’m sure they’re used to getting stick in stadiums anyway so are probably quite immune to it.

Yeh Ed, one sympathises with such aspects of fame, but I think with particular attention on clubs in holiday areas that are going to be full of very drunk people in holiday mode letting their hair down, such areas are best avoided.

I read about the sister aswell. If that happened Then FairPlay to him

Have you heard the abuse footballers get? At games etc? Fans screaming that their children are abused and family members die etc. If someone said that to you on the street you would go mad and would find it very hard to control your anger

Doesn’t matter how much they are paid. The abuse is disgraceful and I don’t blame them if they react now and again
