23rd May 2023 at 10:04 am #207024Well Newcastle you have to say a great fairy story.
As for Man City, their Title wins will just be tainted at the very best.

23rd May 2023 at 11:58 am #207028Silly-Willy-Nilly… fairy story my Arsenal… they’ve won the 666 lottery and are now the little bitches for the biggest bitches in the Middle East… the only thing I can say that could be considered remotely polite is that they haven’t cheated the system yet and would be, for the time being, pretending to play by the rules of the Football Association, even if stoning gay people and chopping up journo’s is otherwise acceptable… what you need to consider is that in about 2 or 3 seasons, your lads will be nothing but fighting out for 4th every year along with Arsenal and maybe even us Spuds…

23rd May 2023 at 9:27 pm #207030Sean:
Mate, I couldn’t support a team/club owned by a dictatorship. IMO it’s just wrong to buy a jersey that puts money in the pockets of dictators and fundamentalists. To support a state owned club is to indirectly support that state. Manchester City, PSG, Newcastle are all about sportswashing. Nothing else.
If United are bought by the Saudis, then I’ll quit supporting them. No doubt about it.I hope it won’t happen. Especially since I was planning to take my son to a game next season.

24th May 2023 at 7:35 am #207031Srd, FairPlay to you if thatโs your stance mate. I wouldnโt like that kind of ownership either but Iโm as fickle as the next person. I hated what saurez did to evra and was ashamed of how the club acted but I still supported him when he returned.
The problem is , all football fans are hypocrites. You have utd fans screaming for this kind of ownership because it has the most money. These are the same fans who mock city and newcastje. Doesnโt matter how they try to spin it, itโs oil money etc but utd are different. They generate their own money and it will make no difference to transfers. It will hugely help with refurb of ot and training ground
Itโs different as utd have a huge history but people will tarnish them the same as city etc. success will always have that little cloud over it.
Liverpool fans are the same. They want this kind of ownership as we can compete. It will just taint success but unlike you, I just couldnโt stop supporting the club
Surprised how quiet Neville is. Has he even come out and said anything after all his bullshit over the wc but still worked over there?

24th May 2023 at 4:51 pm #207035Can’t be too bothered at the mo getting into this as I’m feeling sleepy. Whenever these type of discussions come up though, why is Jack Walker and Blackburn even thrown into the mixer? I thought he was a self-made man who invested his own money.

24th May 2023 at 6:31 pm #207037Utd don’t need a state ownership to be able to compete. In fact, looking at the Qataris chaotic running of PSG, I’m not sure it would get us any closer. Utd simply need an owner who can put the right people in place to make footballing decisions. They need investment into the infrastructure, stadium etc. They need to stop paying out a billion in debt repayments to the likes of the Glazers. Money which should have been invested into the club, preventing Utd from falling way behind in terms of facilities which has a massive effect on the ability to attract players.
I’d absolutely hate it if it turned out that Utd became state owned. As you say Sean, it’s embarrassing to see both some Liverpool and Utd fans calling for that kind of ownership. Sadly, the size of the fanbases means you’ll always see a big difference in opinion amongst the fans. I want to say I’d stop supporting the club if that happened but I’m not sure I could. I don’t feel they deserve that power over me. My support would change. I wouldn’t be financially supporting the club in any way, that’s for sure. I just feel way took invested in the club now to let my continued support be decided by who owns the club. Utd fans already hate their owners so we’re very used to being able to separate the club and its history from the people who own it.
It really is a sad state of affairs when fans see state ownership as the only way their clubs can compete with Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi going forwards.

24th May 2023 at 7:13 pm #207039Good summary Ed from how you’ve expressed your own thoughts. Basically in the hands of multiple owners with vested interests and effectively the club deemed as a business opportunity or a ‘plaything’.
I think personally, it tarnishes the whole identity and heritage.
Some fans may not have that perception and they’d be happy just to see bucketloads spent on bringing in the best players, pay them inflated wages to bring Gusto.
I have never seen Manchester United that way as they too me were a family club until the Glazers came and ruined it over 2 decades. The other point I would express is grass roots and the policy and schemes in place to encourage and develop home grown players and the youth system.
It’ll be interesting to see what lies ahead at Newcastle over these next few years.
