Rumours that Steven Gerrard might be the new Glasgow Rangers manager.
Could well be the perfect first managerial job for him. Big club, plenty of money, only really one rival to the title. No language barrier. Less pressure to deliver considering recent history.
Could well do a few years there then move back south when he wins the SPL.

26th April 2018 at 12:28 pm #21021No language barrier? Scouse vs Scottish? I can’t understand either one (fluent in Goose mind you), can they understand each other?

26th April 2018 at 1:33 pm #21024AnonymousI hear the pitches in Scotland get more slippy than in England… Hope he packs a pair of these.
He should check this out for impartial advice.

28th April 2018 at 8:30 am #21067Great players rarely make great Managers.
Lets see if Gerrard can become a great Manager but going to Rangers as big a club as they are and as well supported as they are given Celtic’s domination of the SPL which is unlikely to change anytime soon given Rangers current predicament is a risky move and might set Gerrard’s managerial career back before it’s even got started.
Milton Keynes Dons or a club like them would have been a better place to start and learn the role rather than in the goldfish bowl that Glasgow and the SPL will provide imo.

28th April 2018 at 10:01 am #21072Nil, you need to try and get over being offended about objective views offered on a football forum just because they don’t fit into your “everything has to be wonderful in your Liverpool world.”
I would like to see Gerrard become a great Manager he’s always been one of my favourite opposition players and I wish him every success in his managerial career but it’s a matter of historical fact that great players don’t always make great Managers and I would like to see Gerrard give himself the best chance of becoming a great Manager but joining Rangers who still have their own problems in a League completely dominated by Celtic imo is not the best way of him doing that.
That’s not putting the kibosh on anything it’s an honest opinion given on a forum that is dedicated to the sharing of honest opinions!
If we all had the same opinions it would be a pretty boring forum mate!

28th April 2018 at 10:28 am #21077Love how he plays on gerrard stopping Rodgers winning the title.
Only great player Iβve seen make a great manager was Dalglish. Sure there are others but generally not the case as their talent often means they thought less about the mechanics of the game. Gerrard might but itβs 50/50 for me, or even less. Heβd have more chance of success as playermanager of Rangers.

28th April 2018 at 10:59 am #21081Nine, that’s all very well mate, but you certainly do go out of your way to sort of degenerate any opinion that I have, almost instantaneously – take last night for example when I agreed with Brian.
You and I mate from different landscapes and I’ll always try and seek common ground, and not only that, wish even my own ‘enemy’ well ala the example of Neville when he was at Valencia!

28th April 2018 at 1:09 pm #21085Nil, firstly I’m not your enemy Nil and I wasn’t disagreeing with you at all,all I was doing was giving my personal opinion of Gerrard going to Manage to Rangers!
In respect of last night I haven’t got the faintest idea of what you’re going on about my post was in response to the question on tax payers money being used for Wembley and having just read the article in the Daily Exoress that is what I put up which if accurate I thought might throw some light on the taxpayers money that was used for Wembley. It had absolutely nothing to do with what you posted whatsoever!!!
Truthfully it is getting more and more difficult to post anything on here without trying to second guess how you might overreact to it which is getting very tiresome and I’m beginning to believe Paxton probably had the right idea!

28th April 2018 at 2:18 pm #21093If Stevie G wants to try his hand on management, this might be the perfect job. As Alfie said he speaks the language (so he shouldn’t have the same problems as Gary Neville at Valencia), he’s got bigger funds than anyone up there except for Celtic, and if he’s got a future as a manager or not will be answered after basically one season. If he can slip by Celtic and win the whole thing (see what I did there?) maybe he can break the curse of good players turning crap managers. If he ends third or lower, he should just go straight to full time punditry or learn glassblowing.

28th April 2018 at 2:35 pm #21096Nine, I actually wasn’t referring as ‘you’ being the enemy.
Enemy as in rival, so again, you misunderstood. Not sure why you keep making references to Paxton. You do try and monopolize certain topics so it seems just to disagree and spark a debate. It’s been a long time since we’ve actually agreed on anything.
And just to re-iterate, I can put my rivalry differences to one-side and post something objective, that’s all I’m saying.
How does any of us know how Rangers will pan out for Gerrard?

28th April 2018 at 2:50 pm #21098I don’t think Gerrard has what it takes to be a manager, to be honest, but it’s going to be interesting to see for sure. He’s got to finish 2nd in Scotland at least, anything else and it’s over before it began!

28th April 2018 at 2:52 pm #21099I give up Nil. It’s pointless trying to point things out to you after these silly reactions of yours or try and debate anything with you sensibly especially if Liverpool are involved.
Paxton threw the towel in on here because he couldn’t deal with you anymore and I’m getting very close to doing the same thing.
You seem to struggle with the whole concept of a football forum which is to put up differing views to debate. If we all agreed there would be no point in the forum at all.
I think it would be a mistake for Gerrard to go to Rangers that’s just my opinion which I’m perfectly entitled to air without you claiming I’m trying to kibosh the move which in itself is completely ridiculous. Time will tell if I’m right if that’s where Gerrard ultimately goes.
Your comments on my Wembley post are a complete nonsense all I put up was an extract from an article in the Daily Exoress to try and throw some light on the taxpayers situation I made no comment on anything you had posted on the thread and I actually have made no comment on the Wembley situation whatsoever on the thread other than putting up the Daily Mail extrsct..
I really can’t deal with you anymore Nil you make things impossible on here on a regular basis the next day you apologise for it all and a few days later you do exactly the same thing again.

28th April 2018 at 3:05 pm #21100Nine, that’s not my intention mate and you know it.
Maybe it seems a case of cross-wired communication. I really am not inflammatory as you make out and I’m sure out of this subject and any other subjects, we can have decent exchanges.
Personally, I’d like to see him succeed with Rangers – of course. Largely to break the stigma many out there have. I’d like Neville to one day give it a shot. If it doesn’t work out, then fair dos. They can either try again or take a completely different route of the game.
That’s all I’m saying.
Cheers
