Compared to their team in the final 2 years ago they now have a brilliant powerful team who can beat most of Europes best in a one off match…and didn’t have a last minute 3rd choice keeper who hadn’t played a competitive EPL standard match for over 2 years between the sticks…
All well and good saying they’re a better team now Mikey but they’re really not. They were better off in the league this time that season. They’ve lost three times as many PL games as they did at this point that season. As for the keeper thing, you had one shot on target in the 90mins. I don’t think it would have made a jot of difference if they had an academy player in goal in that regard. Newcastle were simply much better than Liverpool on the day and fully deserved the win.

17th March 2025 at 11:12 pm #218876Ask the Newcastle fans rather than a Man U fan and I think they would say different, with present midfield, forward options and Pope between the sticks but your welcome to your opinion Ed…

17th March 2025 at 11:57 pm #218877I would also note that a difference of 6 points at game 28 without scrutinising teams above them still to play and quality of other league teams ability to beat each other is hardly enough evidence to base your argument of performance..
Can any Newcastle supporters on this forum say which team they would rather have 2022-2023 or current ?
At the risk of repeating myself Newcastle 100% absolutely deserved to win I genuinley couldn’t be more pleased for the club or supporters..
LFC flatlined throughout most of the last 4 performances, you said yesterday due to “attitude” I say because they were running on empty..-

18th March 2025 at 4:59 am #218879Well it’s not like the alternative to my “opinion” is anything backed up by numbers. The alternative to my opinion is your opinion. You may well have faced a better side than the one we did. Or you may not. The league table at the same point suggests there’s little to support that opinion. Why you’re comparing the difficulty of your final to our final is anyone’s guess though.
Newcastle have a goal difference of 9 this season and have lost 9. Their goal difference then was 26 and they’d lost 3. It’s very difficult to argue they’re definitely a better side this season than they were that one, if indeed that is what you’re saying. Again, not really sure the point you’re making though or why that’s such an important one for you.
Ask the Newcastle fans rather than a Man U fan and I think they would say different, with present midfield, forward options and Pope between the sticks but your welcome to your opinion Ed…

18th March 2025 at 1:12 pm #218883Been a few years since I’ve felt this deflated this early in the season… overall, it’s been a disaster for us Spuds… the injury crisis certainly didn’t help, but neither did some of Angie’s “decisions” either… I think the only thing keeping him in a job is the Europa League, and the only thing keeping him in a job next season will be winning the bloody thing…
I see Poncho is already making noises about coming home, and considering the squad we currently have, I wouldn’t be too upset about that at all, the ending of his last term in the dugout was perhaps the fall-out from the aggrevation of moving stadiums combined with a lack of funds, issues which seem to have been dealt with now…
Although I’m also liking the idea of pinching the fella at Bournemouth… race between those two as far as I’m concerned… not at all fussed about Silva or Frank, and don’t know enough about that fella from the German league to have an opinion.

19th March 2025 at 6:30 am #218886I could see Poch coming back to Spurs Chucky. The only thing would be if he’s really into the idea of leading the US into the World Cup over there next year. Beyond that, he’s definitely still got a career in European club football. I don’t think he did his reputation much harm at Chelsea despite getting the sack. They’ve not really pushed on since he left and he seemed to be making progress before leaving.

19th March 2025 at 8:00 am #218890Yeah, Sweedy, I don’t think it was a coincidence Poncho’s contract runs out the same time as Angie’s (barring P45’s!)….
A glourious return next season with Harry (who should have some pots on his mantel piece by then!), and the next crop of decent youngsters (Bergvall & Grey in particular, both going to be top, top players!) and still a relatively young squad (reckon Cuti is going to bugger off before then but Micky “Hamstrings” will still be there with a bit of luck, and then this young lad tearing up the Belguim league is meant to be as tasty as hell!)…
Year after next year will be our year… 😉

19th March 2025 at 4:56 pm #218893Sean, hi mate. Yeah, all let gone of now mate. Nothing to begrudge of Newcastle and they deserve to live it large.
My thoughts are essentially moving forward and what can we now focus on and change to make it better?
We struggled to unlock their pack and it was strength and pace. It’s not that we don’t have this, it’s simply down to I think we’ve just ran out of it.
I do think we need a dribbler and somebody cunning that can find something out of nothing.

14th April 2025 at 12:00 pm #219029Just a quick observation of why I felt it appropriate to highlight opinions on the character of the Liverpool players following their Cup final defeat to Newcastle.
After playing extra time and penalties to PSG (now a lot of peoples favourite for the Champions League 25) on the proceeding Tuesday night, do we still offer the narrative of “LFC players not wanting it enough” in a final, as an honest intelligent football conversation? Not “cheap shoting” clubs we dislike…
Also, I still hold the opinion this is the best Newcastle team we’ve seen in years and the final 2025 league table will be interesting..
Will the criticism be the same of our three European teams this week, if they don’t win the round.. not wanting it enough?
