Don’t buy Chelsea have been unlucky Sean, they’ve played some pretty stuff but haven’t really created many clear cut chances. Man Utd have. That’s the difference. Surprised Frank went with the youngsters he did. Too much too soon imo.

11th August 2019 at 6:00 pm #451013-0 Chelsea must be kicking themselves.
Thought it might be a foul by Maguire prior to the second. Very flattering scoreline but you have to take your chances which Chelsea have not and Utd have.
That will make Utd favourites for the league now according to the press????_____________________________

11th August 2019 at 6:09 pm #45103Adlab, I read some weeks back a PL player was supposed to ‘come out’. Don’t know if it’s him.

11th August 2019 at 6:23 pm #45106Well done Ed and Mav, good home win, it didn’t feel like a 4 nil more shots and more shots on target and hitting the woodwork twice but it’s putting the ball in the back of the net that counts.?
I thought we looked good for large parts of the game we need to build on that cut out the silly mistakes and get one or two of the key players back.
This season is not about our today’s but our tomorrow’s. There’s plenty there for Frank to work with.

11th August 2019 at 6:49 pm #45107Anonymous999… Thats putting a brave face on it. 🙂 Same problems of not taking chances, says a lot that our left back had the most shots, Surely this is the game Giroud starts with his experience, Mount should have come off instead of Barkley, Barkley should be central supporting a striker. It was all just a little too predictable and Zouma had a stinker. Ive got lots of questions about that what we just saw. A bit disappointed too as I thought we would show more fight and, despite rattling the bar, it felt a little flat. Shit opening fixture to be fair away to united, Super cup next and if we play like that, Liverpool will carves us to pieces. Could be a deflated side by the time we play our first game at home. From all points of view, the only way is up as we’re in the relegation zone.
Hats off to united, Mcguire bossed Abraham, pogba the footballer turned up, the new Ryan Giggs scored, Bacon Rashford looks hungry… I’d be pleased as punch if I were a united fan. Thought they were bright and grew inn confidence as the game progressed. Chelsea have a serious amount of work to do.

11th August 2019 at 7:04 pm #45108442, I thought Mount had a good game but in fairness so did Barkley I would have taken Pedro off.
The Liverpool game will be a massive challenge especially if we play so offensively as you say scoring is our problem and we still haven’t got a 20 goal a season striker.
Zouma was all over the place particularly in the first half and we need Rudiger back and Kante sitting in front of the back 4 asap.
Tough place to come for the first game of the season but I still think 4 nil flattered United. Cheers 9’s

11th August 2019 at 8:00 pm #45109This game should have been decided in the 1st half, with Chelsea having @ least 3 clear scoring oppos.I fully expect us to lose away to Wolves if we play like we did in the 1st half today. Our midfield is non-existant and Chelsea should have scored easy today.Any other team would have beaten us comfortably today.Liverpool,City,Spuds would have scored a few goals today.

11th August 2019 at 8:25 pm #45110There is no way that was a pen and for the 2nd goal there was a foul from Maguire.

11th August 2019 at 8:31 pm #45111Mav, I thought it was a pen but I also thought there was a foul by Maguire on the 2nd goal. I think it’s safe to say that neither team will be challenging for the title well certainly not Chelsea.?
Chelsea will be ok once we get all our players back and playing and even better when Frank can spend that £200m.?

11th August 2019 at 8:49 pm #45112Cheers Nine. Definitely flattered us that. Referee had a good game. Easily a pen that though. Not even debatable. Thought Chelsea started brighter (understandable with a new manager) then Utd came into it after the goal. Pogba’s ball to Rashford was a peach. Maguire and Wan Bissaka the best two players on the pitch. Both look solid signings. Still so much work to do for Utd though.
On another note, how many academy players played today across both sides?! Must be some sort of record for a “top” game that. Doubt any of the other top sides will use as many of their own academy products as Chelsea and Utd this term. Great to see.
Either way, nothing more than a battle for Europa places this one. Neither side anywhere near good enough to challenge this season. Don’t know what avg age was for Chelsea but United was under 24. This is a team not for today but for tomorrow.
Still can’t see Ole lasting beyond Christmas though.

11th August 2019 at 8:52 pm #45113Can’t agree with the Maguire thing though Nine. I thought he was solid there on Abraham. Stood tall and muscled him off the ball. Foul would have been harsh IMO. But we all see the game differently!

11th August 2019 at 9:05 pm #45115Mount is a livewire, reminds me a bit of J.Maddison of Lesta.Abraham looks a real talent too. There are some really talented players coming through in the PL.

11th August 2019 at 9:13 pm #45116Yeah Mount will be a really good player. Not convinced by Abraham at the highest level though. I’ve always thought he reminds me a bit too much of Welbeck. Looks a bit too gangly and lacks the intelligent movement of a modern forward IMO. I think he’ll have a decent PL career but not good enough for Chelsea IMO.

11th August 2019 at 9:16 pm #45117Commiserations Nine BTW. Lots of positives to take from the game for Chelsea. One of those games which really could have gone any way. Will be a while before anyone can really judge Lampard. Really interested to see how the fans react though when he goes through a dip. If he doesn’t make top 5, will the club stick by him? I have my doubts

11th August 2019 at 9:27 pm #45118AnonymousI had thought that one team might batter the other today. My money would have bsen on chelsea to do it.
Early on, so im not sure a whole lot can be taken from that scoreline, especially after hearing that Chelsea hit the post twice. So i wouldnt worry for Frank yet.
From a utd perspective though, thats a real shot in the arm for a side that looks like it needs several. They’ve got the chance to use this as a platform .
I wouldn’t get overboard about it but you cant start the seasom much better than this.
Congrats ans commiserations

11th August 2019 at 10:26 pm #45121Ed, All water under the bridge now and I dont want to take anything away from United’s win.
As for will the fans stick with Lampard did you hear the Chelsea’s fans chanting Joses’s name at OT today they stuck with him to the very end when we were hovering just above the bottom 3.
The match going fans will stick with Frank the so called fans who just frequent Twitter and live in the four corners of the Earth don’t seem quite as loyal and most of them have only followed Chelsea through the trophy years.
Anything less than a trophy filled year is difficult for them to cope with.
