Nine….not only pep would have been angry, Ederson would be as well. very sloppy, mistakes like that will cost us in other games when we are not so far in front.

2nd October 2022 at 7:05 pm #199448Ed,,strangely enough, it must be the Mancunian in me, that the win was great but Utd should have done better, poor players that do little to fight for a ball and clueless at what to do with it when they have it. Tactics? Great goal by Antony though, the other two we gave you which Ederson and I are not happy about. Three goals conceded on own patch whichever way you look at it

2nd October 2022 at 7:11 pm #199449Ed….there is no such think for having. “no excuse to win CL”. This is football, anything can happen at any game, it has been like that since the year dot and will continue to be so. As we all know, you can be favourite and win nothing, I have seen too many banana skins to know any different.

2nd October 2022 at 7:48 pm #199450True enough Brian whilst City are the favourites the CL in the knock out stages can be very unpredictable I’ve got a feeling this is your year though.

2nd October 2022 at 8:40 pm #199451It just goes to show how Haaland was wrongly judged by the punditry world merely on the back of one community shield game. He was new and starting out.
I did listen to Chris Sutton earlier on the radio comparing him to Shearer on the basis of the potential number of goals he could finish with this season. Already 14 which really is overwhelming considering how early we are into the season.
The three attributes for me shining through is his instinct, agility and power. I just took myself back to 2011 and when we signed Andy Carroll. Before his injury etc, he really shun for us. I’ve not seen or recall many premier league strikers carrying all 3 attributes, plus of course the physical stature of which includes a height of 6″4.
Haaland’s regular contributing has taken pressure off City’s midfields who seem more relaxed and comfortable playing their own game.
Anybody just loving the game of football and goals really are in for a Treat.

3rd October 2022 at 6:38 am #199452Nil, only you, and only you, could put Andy Carrol and “The Beast” in the same sentence… in fact, I’d bet a bag of Monster Munch, you’re the first person on the planet to do so! Congrats!! 🙂 🙂

3rd October 2022 at 6:53 am #199453I’m not happy at all the way we took our foot off the pedal just because we 6-1 up! Shows a chink in the armour. ☹

3rd October 2022 at 8:21 am #199454Does anyone remember if Roy of the Rovers also scored so many goals? Bit before my time.

3rd October 2022 at 8:59 am #199455Are the City boys really in a position to sulk about a couple of sloppy goals given up when the game was over? Really?? Do any of you really think if the score was 2-1 and not 6-1 that would have happened? I don’t think so… just sit back and enjoy the “success” your club has “earned”… (cough!) 🙂

3rd October 2022 at 9:05 am #19945714 goals in 8 PL games 3 goals in 2 CL games 17 by the beginning of October from Haaland is unbelievable. Records will be completely reset on this basis.

3rd October 2022 at 9:19 am #199458Not too bad, Buffy, not like we got our bottoms spanked like other peeps on here, was it? A worldie from a player who shouldn’t have been playing, an early Christmas present from out goalie, and somebody smarter than me will need to explain what Royal Bell-end was thinking… not quite the same as the poor “can’t sit down for a week” that the YooUtd boys are suffering from!

3rd October 2022 at 10:05 am #199459Unfortunately there was only one team in it in both derbies when most neutrals were hoping for nip and tuck games and close contests.
ETH and Conte both need to find a plan b there’s only so long they can just rely on sitting deep and playing on the break.

3rd October 2022 at 10:23 am #199460Just look at the gap between Haaland and the next player in this list, Michael Owen. Haaland really is not just one level above the previous best in the premier league – he’s multiple levels above.
🏆RECORD BREAKER
Erling Haaland becomes the 1st player in @premierleague history to score a hat-trick in 3 successive PL home games
Quickest players to 3 PL hat-tricks

3rd October 2022 at 11:44 am #199462The guy is just a beast, that’s all there is to it… he’s gonna break every “season” record there is, and probably beat them the year after…
Can’t wait for him to bugger off to Madrid in the summer of 25!! 🙂

3rd October 2022 at 11:56 am #199464ETH and Conte both need to find a plan b there’s only so long they can just rely on sitting deep and playing on the break.
The difference Nine is that is how Conte’s teams play. They always have done. For ETH, playing on the break IS the plan B. The sooner he is confident he has the players to be more expansive and dominant on the ball, I think we’ll see a more adventurous Utd. Part of that is, I suspect, his reservations over De Gea and his distribution. Look at how Arsenal, City and Liverpool all prioritised signing keepers comfortable with the ball at their feet and how critical it was to the way they play. I think the size of De Gea’s contract and the more pressing issues in other parts of the squad meant we’d need to wait a little longer to replace him. I suspect he’s starting to regret that decision already though. As good as De Gea is at saving shots, he’s terrible with the ball at his feet and is glued to his line. A steep learning curve for ETH and he’ll need to turn it around quickly if he wants to stay in the job for the long term.
The truth is Utd weren’t suddenly great after those 4 wins and we’re not suddenly terrible now after Sunday. This was Ten Hag’s 7th league game and against the best side in Europe away from home. Mistakes were made in the selection and you just can’t afford mistakes against the likes of City.

3rd October 2022 at 12:09 pm #199465Lots of chat down the greengrocers about us Spuds maybe switching to bit more of a 3-5-2 rather than a 3-4-3, something I do think needs to be considered. Got no problem sitting back and trying to play on the counter, but I think you would be better of with 3 DM’s than 2. Would still leave 4 pretty decent attacking players on the pitch and would maybe allow Bentacur a bit more of a free reign to push forward (ideally, nab Maddison or similair in Jan to play in CM).

3rd October 2022 at 12:12 pm #199466Chucks, the one characteristic I would place on him just a tad is to find the urge to blast the ball from outside the box; instinctively like Gabriel Batistuta in the 90s. That would make him even more of a beast. I think Haaland’s best qualities is his agility which really has been an asset to him and Man City. I don’t recall that many PL players in the modern game (maybe Dennis Bergkamp) who were really agile and skillful at the same time.

3rd October 2022 at 1:11 pm #199467I’ll give you Batistuta, but not too sure about Dennis the Meance, two very different players I think (or you just have a thing for blondes! 🙂 )

3rd October 2022 at 3:15 pm #199469Ed , my recollections of Chelsea under Conte was that although pragmatic it was also reasonably creative too perhaps that was because Hazard and Fabregas were part of the team and players like Moses originally a winger played as a wing back with David Luiz never the best defender but very good and easy on the eye with the ball at his feet and of course it helped that Conte won trophies from the off winning the PL in his first season although in fairness he inherited a good squad with moving to 3 at the back his biggest tweak.
“The truth is Utd weren’t suddenly great after those 4 wins and we’re not suddenly terrible now after Sunday” I agree with that Ed although United were pretty terrible yesterday and the scoreline flattered them.
Fact is though is that on their day City can put 6 past most Clubs.
EtH is searching for a style but sitting deep and playing on the break is not the style United fans were looking for and I wonder how long they will accept it, a trophy would help and United have a good chance of winning the Europa League but there are reflections of Mourinho here but EtH needs time and hopefully he will get that.
