We did amazingly well to turn it around, but Brighton on the attack too were good and we’ve defensively been poor. Robbo is missed and needs to return. We’ve lost authority in that defensive unit and it’s sync. Headless chickens in no man’s land at the best of times.
It’s not only that, but I don’t see much goodness coming out of Henderson or Fabinho and our forwards don’t drop deep to support the midfield and enable link up play. I’d be surprised from those next 2 games if we get any points. Sorry for my pessimism at this moment in time (not that I actually feel like that). Just being realistic.

2nd October 2022 at 10:22 am #199363Sean, I wonder mate if we’ve reached a point now with this team where the players simply have been maxed out with the length of time they’ve spent with us.
Many of those have played 5 good seasons. I know in the olden days, we used to have players that would serve the club years, but even then their age and pitch performances/quality in lacking would start to show.
We’ve been sussed by other teams in terms of our weaknesses and tactics/style of play. Of course, our philosophy and style should never change, but something needs to change quickly before we head for a crash and a full reset (the manager leaving us).
We’ve starting games often with Fabinho and Henderson, and I think that would be a good starting place. Maybe Trent needs taking out too once Robbo returns and put him and kostas as full-backs. Konate needs too return and Van Dijk needs his form back. We can turn it around, but at the moment, we’ve been in this slump and it’s costed us a lot of points so far.

2nd October 2022 at 10:24 am #199364Can wait for the Manchester Derby. For the first time in years, I must say I’m actually looking forward to this. Haaland is the key for me. I can see a surprise Ten Hag victory over Pep and classic counter attacking football.

2nd October 2022 at 10:39 am #199365Nil, you’re always looking for City to drop points.😊
I guess because you think City are title favourites and you are still clinging on to the hope that Liverpool will get it together and put in a title challenge no matter how unlikely that currently looks.
Derbies are difficult to predict I wouldn’t rule out any of the 3 potential outcomes although City remain clear favourites.
Back to the Manchester derby

2nd October 2022 at 11:26 am #199367Ed…just think, if you beat us to day and win your game in hand I think you will be a point ahead of us……what an incentive!!!!!

2nd October 2022 at 11:29 am #199368Indeed Brian 😁. It’s a massive ask, though, for anyone to win at the Etihad.

2nd October 2022 at 11:49 am #199369Haha, Nine now why would I want the club that ruined 20 years of my life to win this afternoon? 😀
I would say Man City are favourites and naturally still for the title and it’s early days. But a United win would set a cat amongst the pigeons and make the league even more interesting.

2nd October 2022 at 1:34 pm #199372Wow, Ruben Dias not starting?? La Porte available. Maybe Pep’s thinking about Wednesday. He can bring Mahrez on and alvarez.
United can bring on Casimiro and Ronaldo who I think are better as game changers. United look strong at the back. Should be a very interesting battle trying to contain Foden, Grealish and Haaland.

2nd October 2022 at 1:56 pm #199373United I believe are are still top 4 contenders but they’re not title contenders neither are Spurs title contenders imo but Arsenal could be title contenders, offensively they look very good but maybe not quite as good defensively.
Bit like the Ed I can still see Liverpool going on a run and making a title challenge but they will have to be much better than yesterday and they have to start turning things around soon.
Chelsea are outsiders for a top 4 place given all the previous turmoil at the Club but that would be a massive achievement.

2nd October 2022 at 2:34 pm #199379KDB always reminds of former old school Brazil midfielders in Dunga and Alemao – always had a shot in him from distance and would press.
United have hung in there and credit to them in not conceding a second, but you feel one is imminent.

2nd October 2022 at 2:36 pm #199382They can’t afford to drop their heads. They can still find their way back into this game, but Ten Hag needs half-time.
