4th September 2022 at 6:42 pm #198703Arsenal fell apart after the 2nd goal. What a signing Eriksen has been so far.

4th September 2022 at 6:50 pm #198705Great game, 4 wins in a row for utd. ETH really changed so much following the Brentford hammering. Not just the players he dropped but he is sacrificing some of his ideals for the benefit in the short term and I can only applaud that. The counter will only take you so far at utd as ole will testify but its what is needed right now. We will see how the possesion game improves against low block sides in coming weeks.
He was a little lucky today but he was playing the best arsenal side I have seen in 15 years with the worst united side in 30 years so it was always going to take a bit of luck!

4th September 2022 at 7:20 pm #198706Lucky letβs see weβre this Arsenal team is in 15 games time. They played 5 winnable games. Thought they played sone good stuff but they are still weak. They get to 1-1 you need to be winning that game and certainly not losing it . Letβs not get carried away.
Stevo but Arsenal didnβt win. Doesnβt matter if they were the better side chum. Ben white is not a right full. It was their first big test and they failed badly. How can you lose a game like that 3-1. Maddness. Bizarre subs from areta aswell.

4th September 2022 at 7:29 pm #198709Arsenal bought players who couldn’t break into the 1st team of their clubs. Zinchenko, Jesus and Odegaard were just squad players at their previous clubs. They were just stop gap players who came on as subs or filled in when a player was out injured.
Players like that will not make a difference long term. Not a big fan of Arteta, he comes across as a Pep wannabe, he was 2nd fiddle to Pep and now has bought his casts-offs, players Pep just saw as back up to his 1st team.

That was a huge test and they lost. Letβs see were they are in 15/20 games

4th September 2022 at 7:34 pm #198711Sean, no one in their right mind thinks arsenal are genuine contenders but they are better than I can remember in years.

4th September 2022 at 7:42 pm #198713But itβs 6 games lucky. Not sure how any team/player can be judged after 6 games. Many many sides have started well and faded badly. Iβd Arsenal are playing like this in 25 games time and going to big away games and winning, Iβll defo think they are on the way forward but I wonβt go overboard after 6 games.
Itβs like Roy Keane saying utd are dead certs for top 4 after 6 games! Lose two games and the negativity be back. Itβs only 6 games. You can judge anything really changing for a few more months.

4th September 2022 at 7:44 pm #198715World cup is going to key to this season. Games are being cramped in just to meet that ridiculous tournament happening in Qatar mid season. Players fatigue and more injuries than usual after the tournament. Like Brian says, January will give a clearer picture in regards to who will be challenging.

4th September 2022 at 7:45 pm #198716Arsenal have lacked a steeliness about them for a long time now, even going back to Wenger, regardless of the nice football they can play. In some ways Wenger lives on. I mean Edu & Arteta both played under Wenger and both now have prominent positions at the club.

4th September 2022 at 8:03 pm #198717Sean I just think it’s the best arsenal team I have seen in ages, whether they are good enough to finish top 4 only 38 games will tell of course.
They have a good starting 11 playing a system they all understand and playing it well, with a few good options on the bench too. No one is claiming they are challenging for anything other than top 4 and maybe a cup. I can only see players like martinelli and Saka getting better too.
Of course arsenal winning 5 on bounce was overhyped, everything that can be overhyped is overhyped regards the Premier league.

4th September 2022 at 9:38 pm #198720BBC Sport pundit Alan Shearer said: “It is shocking, abysmal, disgraceful – Willock is going to head that ball, so Mitchell shoves him. Michael Salisbury gets it right, it is Lee Mason [VAR official] who somehow bizarrely tells him ‘you have made a howler’.
“Lee Mason is the one to blame because it is an inexperienced referee. At this level you have got to get that decision right, he has had no help from VAR. Far too many errors, VAR is not the problem, it is the people who are running it.”
World Cup referee Michael Oliver ignored the advice of VAR in a game between Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth at the City Ground, despite being asked to review a penalty decision on the pitchside monitor.
Instead, Oliver opted to stick with his initial call and award Forest the spot-kick for handball.
Elsewhere, Leeds boss Jesse Marsch was sent off for his reaction to two penalty decisions that did not go his side’s way in a defeat by Brentford.

4th September 2022 at 9:53 pm #198722We need better Templates set Adlab.
I fully concur with the sentiments of your thoughts and in agreement with you.
The Referee once in the mode of looking at the monitor will 100% overturn his original decision. It’s like a given ingredients (in these circumstances) of the ‘perfect recipe’. Perfect for who though?
Why isn’t the Referee accompanied for example? No undermining at all, but I see it as Synergy and Support within that particular industry.
Much was made from Odegaard; how many ‘tackles’ did Paul Scholes and Roy Keane get away with? Their ‘Master’ would have loved them for it.
Mendy conveniently feigned injury because he knew he was in the wrong and he milked it. That was of no intent, but that is somewhat lost as the bigger picture once the Referee is into that frame of mind of just reviewing one particular clip in slow motion.

4th September 2022 at 9:57 pm #198723Adlab, we shall await re PGMOL. I hope something worthwhile comes out of this. We really need serious modifications of the understanding of play and the rules shoe-horning accordingly.

4th September 2022 at 10:15 pm #198726Was at OT today. Massive win. Performance wasn’t great and you can tell which manager has had his team for 3 years and which has had his for 3 months. Arsenal much further ahead in their development and much more expansive than they used to be under Arteta, but arguably every bit as lacking in grit and desire when it matters. It’s clear Ten Hag wants more control in games and that will come. For now, the togetherness and morale boost a win like that will give the team could be huge. Top 4 a huge ask but we’re at least in the conversation, which seemed unthinkable after those first 2 games. I don’t think we’ll get it personally as the teams around us are much further ahead than us.
2 big tests in Arsenal and Liverpool and 2 wins. You can’t ask for much more than that.
