Will they really walk this league? I can see potentially at least 2 defeats out of those fixtures and if not, dropped points for sure.

3rd September 2022 at 8:13 pm #198612Nil, I’d still expect so, but I think teams are learning how to play City & Liverpool, and some are realising if they put the yards in and have a go, they can get some joy.

3rd September 2022 at 8:23 pm #198613Mikus, I hope so from what you say about opposition teams learning how they play.
I must admit, they are truly admirable in their link up play; just the simple give-n-go. The notably find themselves in pockets of space and their positioning and movement off the ball is shining example to the rest of us.
I do notice vividly how many of their goals come from very close range, so that’s definitely an area for opposition teams to work on.
Very Good point today made from ex Aston Villa Dion Dublin about concentration throughout. That’s Pep’s Barca tactics in getting round the back and/or the ball over the top, significantly catching out the opposition when least expected.

3rd September 2022 at 8:39 pm #198614The reason Coutino goal was wrongly disallowed is because the linesman flagged and the ref blew before he shot therefore there can’t be any VAR. How is that right? A let off for us but I think correctly applied

3rd September 2022 at 8:53 pm #198615Lol π If only that was the score-line back in May. *Phillipe Coutinho* Truly love this Boy; immense. His Agent had turned his head, not Barca; otherwise, he would have remained one of us π

3rd September 2022 at 9:15 pm #198616Moyes continued his protests against the decision in his press conference, saying he has “lost faith” in the refereeing in the game and hitting out at Mendy for “faking an injury”.
Not often I agree with Moyes

3rd September 2022 at 9:43 pm #198617Mendy milked it because he knew he was outdone. Simple as. VAR Screwed up, so they are a screw up.

3rd September 2022 at 9:47 pm #198618Why can’t players be Red Carded for point-blank simulation? Anthony Taylor for me tried his best, but not the right man to Referee a Derby. Today needed a no-nonsense Pierluigi Collina.
Lampard will be in his job still despite the luxury of the players he’s signed and bought; loves to really get stuck into Liverpool; his hatred and buzz that made his day hahahaha.

3rd September 2022 at 9:57 pm #198619Just looking at it now Adlab. I think it looks fine in real time but then I think it’s case of it looking worse in slow motion with little context applied or rather the lack of understanding of the reality of having momentum and then suddenly having to jump out of the way. It’s as though the refs just see the collision with the trailing foot and immediately think foul. They should really show the replay to the ref in both slow mo and real-time.
VAR is using a microscope on football which takes out the context and reality. But then – VAR examined the hair pull on Cucurella in the game between Chelsea & Spurs and didn’t give a foul. Just looking at that again one wonders if part of the reason the foul was given on Mendy today but not on Cucurella was because Mendy stayed down today but Cucurella didn’t. I think it adds pressure on the ref to act if they’re worried a player may be injured or been harmed.

3rd September 2022 at 10:06 pm #198620Agree Mikus but Mendy was play acting otherwise known as cheating as he made a hash of it.
But in any event it was imo an appalling decision. West Ham have every right to be very cross. If this had have been at West Ham there is absolutely no doubt in my mind the goal would have stood.

3rd September 2022 at 10:09 pm #198621Tuchel should have acknowledged it was a fortunate call not trying to say the ref was correct to disallow.

3rd September 2022 at 10:23 pm #198622Thats the problem Adlab, play acting or not, staying down puts pressure on the officials.

3rd September 2022 at 10:47 pm #198623It’s the thought in nature; once you repeatedly play the footage and analyze in slow motion. I don’t know whether this is the ultimate influence on mindset of a person. I rarely see now, an original decision kept.
Rather ‘fashionable’ in change to be the hero of the martyr’ than to fourth-right abide by principle of the original call.

3rd September 2022 at 10:57 pm #198625Tuchel won’t acknowledge anything. A Nasty. Bullied Conte; Kept by Pep and Klopp; uses ultimate defensive tactics and makes excuses point blank when his team doesn’t get the results; that’s Tuchel unveiled.

4th September 2022 at 7:21 am #198627Only just catching up with the highlights now. Feel for Villa with the Coutinho disallowed goal. Terrible decision. As was the Mendy one. Van Dijk looked like he should have had a red, too, for me.
Really disappointing to see City continue to sing the song “Erling Haaland is a blue, he hates Munichs”. I really don’t understand the psychology of fans who sing about tragedies, whether it’s Hillsborough, Munich or whatever else.

4th September 2022 at 7:38 am #198628The Coutinho goal was scored after the whistle went even Ederson himself only made a token half hearted attempt, whether he actually would have saved it had the whistle not gone I also doubt that as he never seems to make any saves.

4th September 2022 at 7:55 am #198630Ed, For me vvd is a red but they are not being given the last two seasons. Mctwoniey v Brighton, Kane v Liverpool, cresswell v Liverpool. It seems they are letting these tackles go the last two years. They are red cards but they are just not giving them
The West Ham one very very soft. The ball is gone. City one ref needs to let it go on. Getting a lot of decisions recently city.
