9th September 2021 at 9:11 am #184688Read the discussion about the FIFA ban. Are they now going to ban the whole Argentine team?
No.
This is one for the Premier League to sort out._____________________________

9th September 2021 at 12:15 pm #184690So IF there’s no punishment for not going to play and breaking FIFA rules, yet the ones that complied with the rules and are now quarantining won’t be able to play, that hardly seems fair.
You can hear the pencils being sharpened by the lawyers now…….Pagan

9th September 2021 at 1:08 pm #184692AnonymousCheers for the Nine.
Pagan, the lads who travelled will be quarantined as a result of British law. The lads who refused to travel, will be banned over an arbitrary rule that is being exploited by a petty institution.
Big difference there lads.
I still think the Argentine lads should be able to have had fail testing along with solo training for the few days, then allowed to play… but that’s a personal opinion and not a legal stance obviously. What I would call a common sense solution, however it doesn’t matter. Here is no way they will be allowed out of quarantine ,fairness is never a consideration in this instance.

9th September 2021 at 2:35 pm #184694Pagan, the 10 day quarantine period for visiting a red list country is a UK law and applies to everyone.
The 5 day ban if implemented is a football rule.
Clubs chose the latter because 5 days is better than 10 days and they hoped the rule wouldn’t be implemented which is where we are now and awaiting to here if it will or won’t be implemented.

9th September 2021 at 3:00 pm #184698Feels like parents going through a messy divorce fighting over the kids doesn’t it. Not sure what the Brazil FA get out of triggering the rule, seems like its the players who lose out. cant play for their country and now told they cant play for their clubs.

9th September 2021 at 3:04 pm #184699Nine, perfectly right what I cannot get my head around is there are National Country Laws, they must be upheld. Are Fifa, FA saying we can do this and that and just ignore what any country laws are?? I am missing something here. It is irrelevant if it is there competition or not the law of the land comes first and I would say its employment rules. The Lawyers will have a field day that is for sure

9th September 2021 at 3:42 pm #184704The UK law trump’s everything Brian. The 10 day quarentining rule for anyone who visits a country on the Red list on returning to the UK is the right law imo we have to try and keep Covid under as much control as possible tbh overall I think we’re still being too lax as a country.
Everyone knew that there are no special dispensations in the UK for Sport the British and Irish Lions were confirmation of that.
The Club’s and the PL chose the least damaging option of the chance of a 5 day ban under FIFA rules rather than 10 day quarentining under UK law everyone knew the potential consequences if FIFA implemented the ban.
But it’s not confirmed yet and still may not happen? 😊

9th September 2021 at 3:43 pm #1847059, yeah I get that, but if the 5 day rule isn’t implemented then clubs who didn’t let their players travel get off totally Scott free, yet those that played by the rules are handicapped. As I’ve said and has Brian, the lawyers will be loving this………Pagan

9th September 2021 at 3:51 pm #184707Pagan, one was a rule the other one is UK law and that trump’s everything.
The Club’s and the players that went the 10 day quarentining law route didn’t go in blind they knew what the UK law was before they went ahead and they also knew what the FIFA 5 day ban rule was too they chose their route.
Those that went to a Red list country should rightly be quarentining for 10 days under UK law as should anyone else in the UK imo.

9th September 2021 at 4:03 pm #1847119, I’m not thick, I’m well aware of the difference between the uk law and a FIFA rule, you just can’t be potentially let off Scott free by FIFA for deliberately breaking the rules to benefit the club, whilst clubs were prepared to take the loss of players for the duration of quarantine in order to work within the rules of the governing body are in effect handicapped, it’s no good having rules if you don’t enforce them……….Pagan

9th September 2021 at 4:11 pm #184714FIFA as far as I know have yet to announce that the bans are rescinded as far as I know Pagan.
I’ve not said either way whether FIFA should or shouldn’t rescinde the 5 day bans but all the players and all the Club’s knew what the UK law was and what the 5 day ban rule was and chose their route.

10th September 2021 at 2:55 pm #184736Nine…if the law of the land says XYZ, it really does not matter what Fifa say, they must follow XYZ. Of course they can still ban/allow players in there little Empire but as you correctly pointed out. UK Law trumps it.
Covid is far from over and recent statistics show it is rising again. We have acted too soon in my opinion on crowd gathering, Lets get back to work first and earn some money first.

10th September 2021 at 2:57 pm #184737From Tuchel’s pre match Villa press conference. 10/09
On Thiago Silva being banned, Tuchel says the situation “makes no sense for anybody” and that international matches in red-list countries could perhaps be switched to green-list countries.
Tuchel adds that it has not confirmed Silva is banned. Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck is in negotiations over the issue and there is no final decision yet.
