Ed. yes I understand that and that the protests have been going on for a long time even during the successful times but as you said the other day we don’t get to choose our owners for good or bad.
If the “Protests have historically had little to no effect on the Glazers” you question why keep having them but I guess there’s no where else to go though.

21st August 2022 at 11:48 am #197974Utd fans protesting. If 3Pts are given to Liverpool, OK that a decision that has been made, however, if the protest continue in subsequent matches do all teams get 3 pts????

21st August 2022 at 11:57 am #197975Nine, for me mate, the Villa job itself is big as Aston Villa are a big club.
In my eyes I always thought it was a big jump from Rangers and as you rightly say, it’s an entire different league.
He needed really a job managing one of the clubs in the lower leagues and guiding them ideally to promotion. I am for younger managers been given a chance, but we lack old school experience managers like Harry Redknapp who these guys can learn an awful lot, but not really had that opportunity to spend time and have really thrown themselves straight into the deep end.
I’m afraid he’s a long long way off the Liverpool job. I do not know who would take over from Klopp.

21st August 2022 at 12:00 pm #197976History unfortunately highlights what had happened last year.
That fixture was forced to be rearranged so I believe anything spoken about has been attributed based on the history. Liverpool really in essence are there to play a match and don’t want all the unnecessary disruption and potential chaos caused by Manchester United supporters on a Monday Night.

21st August 2022 at 12:01 pm #197977If utd protests lead to the postponement of a match then every team should be awarded a 3-0 win. I believe that is the rules its just whether the Premier League enforce them or not. Klopp hopefully has put pressure on for Utd to be able to avoid such circumstances at least for Monday.
Not sure how much you saw of the last “protest” but over here Sky were pretty relaxed showing some shocking behavior from Utd fans. Groups of men surrounding cars of people just going about their buisness maybe with children in and rocking their cars causing a lot of fear. Mob mentality at its worst. It was terrible.
Protest yes but there’s a way to do then just acting like a big group of dickheads.

21st August 2022 at 12:50 pm #197978If I might play devil’s advocate here, are the Glazers truly the worst owners in the world? Are they truly bad people constantly counting their chips and laughing with evil smirks on their faces far away? They’re maybe inexperienced and out of their depth in the Premier league, but they have still spent an awful lot of money. They followed the advice of Fergie and tried to keep in tune with the long term vision of the club. Then when that went badly you could forgive them in appointing some more bigger name experienced managers. They’ve tried appointing former players as managers. They’re now bending to the fans with managerial appointments and have appointed former players like Darren Fletcher as technical director.
My point here is this. Just imagine you appointed your average fan as owner of Man Utd. You could well imagine them following a similar path to the Glazers in listening to Fergie, spending big to get out of trouble, appointing more experienced managers, then trying to play the long game again.
Would it not be more productive for people like Gary Neville – rather than cheerleading efforts to get them out – why not try and sit down with them and help them get the right recruitment structure in at the club. Because they sort that out, and they’re pretty much good to go.
New owners may well have their own vision of the club which the fans may not like – and all owners will still want something out of the club and some kind of return at some point. As the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for…you might get it.

21st August 2022 at 1:48 pm #197979Mikus, they bought utd with its own money and every penny spent on squad was earned by the club and within its budget. They don’t subsidise anything.
They will sell a club that paid for itself and earn billions. What have the utd fans or the club got out of the deal? A terribly run football club.
Imo there is no defending what they have done to utd and as long as it is civil I support utd fans in their protest.

21st August 2022 at 2:08 pm #197980As I say Lucky, I’m partly playing devil’s advocate. I just think there’s an argument that they look more lost than anything in trying to direct the club forwards and am surprised at the seeming lack of former players available to try and help them. As for the way they bought the club, if you want a new owner to buy the club they need big pockets or it needs to be a state type takeover, and when that happens, the control of the club will very much be in their hands and less so the fans, and they may want to take things in a completely different direction. But as things stand with the Glazers, the fans do seem to have a strong degree of influence on the direction they want to go in. As I say, if they just get the recruitment structure right, they’ll shoot back up the league and talk of how they bought the club would probably die down.

21st August 2022 at 2:40 pm #197981Mikus, we were the best run club in the country when they came in and saddled us with all that debt. One of the best run in Europe. The fact we spend such a lot of money is nothing more than trying to protect that CL money. Owners who want to develop a club don’t just spend money on players. They ensure everything behind the scenes is kept ahead of the competition. We had the best academy, the best training ground and have no massively fallen behind. I think it’s difficult to really understand as a non Utd fan, who probably assumes we just want more money for transfers. A well run club spends less money on transfers, not more. £800mil has gone to interest payments for debt which never should have been allowed. 800mil which could have ensured facilities were kept in line with competition. Instead we’re consistently throwing good money after bad because young players just don’t see us as am attractive proposition any longer. That is unforgivable considering what they took over.

21st August 2022 at 2:54 pm #197982That’s fair enough Ed, and I don’t disagree with you about some of that. I was just partly provoking debate about it to dive deeper on the issues. What I would maybe say though is would it be better for a more gradual takeover in the sense that if you can start to get the right people in upstairs, they can maybe bring in the right investors in over time which would lead to an eventual takeover later? If you got them out in one foul swoop, then as I allude to above, you may get a completely different owner who may correct some things, but may also cause new problems elsewhere.

21st August 2022 at 3:00 pm #197985The “fans” do need to be careful. Protest will not win them anything, the Glaziers will sell in their own time frame at some point. “Fans” also have no idea how to run a football club, it applies to any club not just Utd but could give a club more heartache than it deserves. Real supporters will back their club through thick and thin, been their done that and have the T shirts!!!! I am sure Utd will sort it out in time but they need a complete overall at the top in the meantime let the players know you are supporting them. maybe some players cannot handle the unsettling conditions. De Jong, if he comes, Casemiro, a good player, are not single handed going to change anything overnight

21st August 2022 at 3:44 pm #197989Brian, I am surprised too. Didn’t expect this, but a few of yesterday’s results: Fulham beating Brentford for example. Palace winning comfortably, Forest holding Everton.
There are no easy games here. I think competitiveness has increased.

21st August 2022 at 3:46 pm #197991Well done to Leeds who were excellent and worked really hard.
Ridiculous mistake by Mendy and taking nothing away from Leeds who were excellent Chelsea were poor all over the pitch and didn’t work hard enough. And finally pure stupidity from Koulibaly!
Relegation 6 pointer v Leicester next week.😊
