Oz, “Remember when LFC were top by 7 or whatever it was, people (you were one of them) saying Liverpool would win it.” I did Oz and at that stage I genuinely thought Liverpool would win the title despite predicting that City would win it at the beginning of the Season.
But as soon as City began to cut into that 7 point lead there was a certain inevitability about a City come back and so it proved I think there were 3 big turning points losing to City at the Etihad reducing the lead which could have been 10 points but was reduced that day to 4 points, Liverpool failing to capatilise on City getting beaten by Newcastle by drawing at home to Leicester and Liverpool not winning at OT against an injury hit United side and I said at the time that one might prove costly.
But it was a great effort and a great PL season for Liverpool and you should all be justly proud of what Liverpool did this season in the PL and you still have a Champions League to play for too so the season could still end gloriously. Cheers 999

13th May 2019 at 8:55 am #40759Mak, “I think the usual shite talk from others is on hold until after we potentially lose the CL final. Kinda hard to call someone a failure as they await to find out if they can become European Champions.”
Despite the visit to the Liverpool site from your good friend the Martial Art whatever the outcome of the CL Final I don’t think you’ll get any “s***e” talk towards Liverpool and their season on here and nor should there be because whatever happens in the Final Liverpool have had a great season.

13th May 2019 at 8:59 am #40760Next season is going to be interesting for sure…
With regards to Pool, I see no real gaping holes in their first 11, they’re in the position of either buying seriously top draw players, likely in the 100m plus range, to improve their first 11, or youngish players who fancy the challenge of cracking the first team… and that isn’t likely to improve their overall squad a huge amount, if any at all…
Whereas Spuds to have some areas for improvement, namely Full Backs and Center Midfield, plus a few more squad players.
City have a whole different gameplan, a few of their 1st 11 are getting on a bit… Silva, Kompany, Ferndndhdho, even AguerororoOOOooo comes into that catagory… they can attract those top draw players with some careful selling points..

13th May 2019 at 9:07 am #40761“A few of their 1st 11 are getting on”.
That is potentially City’s achilees heel Chucky which might ultimately catch up with them and change the landscape of the PL.
Much depends on how well City cope with that evolution and whether Pep is still leading them at that time.

13th May 2019 at 10:39 am #40767I’m wondering how the banning of Chief Scumbag Agent will effect things, there’s a lot of talent that has fallen under the darkside there… wouldn’t put it past “him” to tell all he’s boys to sit tight until next summer… hope I wrong but I wouldn’t be surprised…
As for my Spuds, it really seems like there will be a lot of in’s and out’s, and depending on the out’s, how much we get to spend on the in’s…
And I don’t think it’s just the usual suspects on the “out” list either…

13th May 2019 at 11:10 am #40768Don’t think Liverpool
Will spend big. Talk of Brewster been brought into 1st team to replace SturridgeSpurs is a very tough game and as nine days on their day, they can beat anyone.
Getting to the cl final really has softened the blow of yday.
City win 17 of their last 18 games. It’s an unreal stat a brilliant side
Proud of us. We have a really good team now but we have to hold onto our best players

13th May 2019 at 2:29 pm #40770Suggestions in the Express that United are thinking of sacking Ollie.
I can’t believe that but I suspect had United followed their original strategy of waiting until the end of the season before making an announcement they would have been saying thanks for everything Ollie but you’re not for us right now.

13th May 2019 at 2:51 pm #40771That’s the red-tops going silly, some daft bugger mentioned on a TV somewhere if YooUtd lost Ollie was in the for chop, YooUtd subsequently lost, and now all the rags are running with it…

13th May 2019 at 3:17 pm #40772AnonymousExactly Nine. If anyone here from this forum were in charge of Utd, they’d have saved the owners the price of getting out of a fresh 3 year contract. Woodward is some kind of conman. He must have a good balance of charismatic and cut-throat but his actual decision making is canine excrement.
The right choice is of course to sack him and to sack the people who were foolish enough to pre-emptively sign him. I dpn’t want utd back to winning leagues, certainly not yet but it is frustrating to see such incompetence, regardless of them being rivals. I guess what’s happened is they aren’t really our rivals anymore. Financially speaking they are of course much stronger than us but I’m talking about footballing output.
It’s going to be a long and awkward summer for them, unless they bite the bullet. I mean why wait when you know that you’re pissing in the wind for another season? You can’t give someone you don’t trust huge sums to spend.
Get rid of him. sorry.

13th May 2019 at 4:21 pm #40775Next season.
Much will depend on new signings, injuries and that all important luck!Liverpool, apart from the Echo and various stupid comments from players and the media, will be right up there again. The team that comes ahead of City is likely to win the league.
All the teams will change some personnel. That may have a big impact.

13th May 2019 at 4:24 pm #40776Chuckster I don’t like playing your mob & I genuinely believe if you get a bit of cash to spend you’ll be right up there challenging for titles. I certainly respect what you have done this season, amazing really when you think about your opponents. 9 is spot on, we have also spent a lot of money & lucky for us Klopp spent it pretty well. Hopefully you will look back at a season of exceeding expectation but unfortunately not winning anything. Damn that sounds like our lot for the last couple of seasons haha.

13th May 2019 at 4:28 pm #40778That’s the dilemma Mak. Stick or twist when you’re very unsure sticking is the right thing to do but they are stuffed now and will have to give Ollie next season.
It’s a very similar situation at Chelsea but having finished 3rd got the Club back into the CL and to 2 Cup Finals despite the seeming concerns re Sarri in the Club and amongst a large section of the fan base there’s a feeling he deserves next season and let’s see where that takes us.

13th May 2019 at 5:12 pm #40780I agree Mak re manu but they could well be a sleeping giant with their financial muscle. Look at city, had all the money you could want but it took the appointment of Pep to bring everything together & make them the machine they are today. It only takes the right appointment at the top & they could well become a major force again. I just hope they continue to make bad decisions & stay below us.
Interesting one also with Sarri, from an outsider looking in you get the feeling they won’t get back challenging at the top with him in charge but I do think he’ll get the full season again baring a full on meltdown early next season. 9 would know better than me but it seemed a lot of their fans wanted him out not so long ago due to some odd decisions he was making with the team.
The advantage Liverpool and city have is stability at the top & obviously money to go with it. IMO Spurs are the main threat to another big gap at the top & if they get some depth they will be a major force. For me they are where Liverpool were a couple of season ago & just need a couple of smart buys but it’ll cost big bucks. Hopefully they can hang onto their top players & we can do the same so city will get pushed all the way again next season._____________________________

13th May 2019 at 5:15 pm #40781Sean if we don’t spend we will fall behind. You can’t compete with city without spending, it’s just how it is. They were so far ahead of everyone else so if you take into account they will buy quality again we just have to spend or we will fall further behind.

13th May 2019 at 5:43 pm #40782The only thing is that all teams will add players and lose one or two.
If Chelsea lose Hazard AND cant buy that will be bad news._____________________________

13th May 2019 at 6:01 pm #40783Adlab, you’re right mate it would be bad news but it should be slightly softened by the arrival of Pulisic the development of CHO and bringing back some of the loanees. Zouma, Reece James, Mount, Bakayoko, Batshushiya and Abraham.
We’ve still got the appeal to CAS yet which could suspend the ban for the Summer. But if that doesn’t work it will be a challenge to stay in the top 4.

13th May 2019 at 7:29 pm #40784Oz, I am just getting through all your replies. We’ll have to agree to disagree above all. It seems above all for x y and z reasons you carry a level or doubt or somewhat limit Liverpool to how successful they could be.
I sense something already about the Champions League Final. The Manager is recruited to instil confidence in the dressing room and develop them. Barcelona is a perfect example: Imagine if in the dressing room, we adopted an attitude of no hope, belief or confidence, what would the outcome of that match be?
You mention a lot of the time the point of Man City’s Spending Power. They didn’t come into the money yesteryear with Pep. They’ve had players playing for them for nearly 10 years. They got their break when they pipped Man United to the Title in 2012. Remember October 2011 at Old Trafford and 6-1?
The level of Stature they carry now, they have worked on for a relatively long period of time. In fact a decade. Only now they have it right with Pep, but they are a club now with a level of high expectations and a lot of pressure day-to-day lies on the shoulders of Pep. Pellegrini and Mancini couldn’t deliver the CL and PL year after year and they are not with the club as a result.
If you take your back over a decade, Man City started off with the big buys from Robinho, circa 2008 for around 32.5. Back then that was Mega. Remember Yaya Toure?
They’ve had to build a solid 11 and extend with squad depth to be able to compete and win honours. Some over the years have come and gone.
It’s true and you need spending power, but the example of the player Raheem Sterling has grown into in quality reflects on Pep Guardiola’s own coaching and development. When he came into the fold, he would tell players there and then if they were over weight or that he felt was getting in the way of them being super-energetic.
Man City are not immortal. This leads me on to my other point on how you mention “so near yet so far”. I don’t believe that to be the case. Even though the moment lasted just 60 seconds, their Supporters were disturbed as soon as they discovered through the airwaves and phone that Sadio Mane put the ball in the back of the net. The fact that Liverpool actually put Man City through that shows they can be rattled.
I completely agree with you on a very sound point about Squad Depth and that is something we are getting better with. One could argue we needed fresh quality off the bench that would have helped us turn draws into wins ala Leicester, Everton and Man United.
The point of going Toe-to-toe with Man City shows that last season in the CL, we did the double over them. 11 millimetres otherwise denied us a draw at the Ethiad.
You are genuinely entitled to your opinion and you feel what you feel. Having doubt is one thing. I did take exception though from something you commented on yesterday prior to the game and some sort of a prediction your made. It came across with the manner in which it was made in: “nothing new to see here”
I looked on Television a Sea Of Red Supporters at Anfield. Thousands. Although in human nature they were left with disappointment, They still went ahead to live the experience and support the players in spite of the situation not being in our hands. What does that say about them? We had a brief perfect world 15:28, and even though that was short-lived, at least we had it.
This isn’t David and Goliath. We hit 97 points and missed out by a very tight margin. I hope and I’m confident we will go from strength to strength. Steve McMahon on one of the Online Channels made a brilliant point on when we do eventually win a Major, the floodgates will open for many more and I truly believe that to be the case.
