18th January 2020 at 7:42 pm #60910Keeper should be saving that at the end. Chelsea had a lot of the ball but Newcastle has the bus parked.
Big win for Newcastle but Chelsea didnโt deserve that

18th January 2020 at 8:08 pm #60916Frank sounded really frustrated in his post match interview and committed to doing something about it in January.
It’s such a tough month to bring in the players you really want but I have the feeling that if Chelsea don’t manage to 4th place will slip away.

18th January 2020 at 8:18 pm #60917David Moyes, Steve Bruce, Nigel Pearson. British managers who all get a a fair bit of stick for being boring choices as manager. When you look at the European managers they’ve all replaced, Pellegrini, Sanchez Flores, Benitez etc. All of them have improved their sides from the more popular managers who preceded them.
Is it time we realise Benitez wasn’t actually doing as good a job as people were saying at Newcastle? The football wasn’t even any nicer to eat h under Rafa. They were every bit as defensive, just less effective.

18th January 2020 at 8:28 pm #60918Ed, do you think Bruce, Pearson or Moyes could have won the title with City as Pellegrini did? I might be generalising here, but is part of this not that British managers tend to do better at clubs lower down because they tend to have more British players and thereโs more of a connection and they can develop a better togetherness? Whilst the likes of Pellegrini and Benitez are perhaps more tactically polished?

18th January 2020 at 8:35 pm #60919Anonymous9 – but didnโt frank previously say he wonโt spend if the ban got lifted? And that he owes it to the current players. Funny how quick you change your mind when it isnโt all so rosy.
On the spurs game today, itโs just pathetic. Maybe the tactics arenโt great and key players are missing but that doesnโt excuse failed 5 yard passes, or son and Lucas being the worst forward players in the league at the moment. Son just always tries too much and isnโt good enough to lead. Lucas is a joke of a footballer. Just donโt see any strengths to his game. If levy doesnโt sort this out quickly then that lovely new billion pound stadium will be a complete waste of money. 8th highest revenue in world football, yet we canโt sign anyone! The stadium cost is irrelevant because there is a repayment plan in place that is more than manageable with big name players and signings. How levy doesnโt see that his failure to improve the squad is having a hugely negative effect on the entire club is amazing but heโd rather have a documentary with Amazon than win anything.

18th January 2020 at 8:49 pm #60920Tough to say Mikus but possibly not. Still, so many people were saying Newcastle were only just surviving because of Rafa and the brilliant job he was doing. A job now being done even better by a very unfancied manager.

18th January 2020 at 9:01 pm #60922Paxton, what did you make of Poch going and Jose coming in?
I thought Lucas was spurs most dangerous player last week against us

Not to my knowledge Paxton but if you’ve got the quote I’m happy to stand corrected.

18th January 2020 at 9:36 pm #60926Poor decision making by City defence to day, other than that, Palace had there plan to defend which they did very well. I thought it was a mistake playing Silva, Bernado and Gundogan , really good players, but together I am not so sure. I hope Pep tells Mendy that he is allowed to move forward!!!!! Stones started well enough but did not keep it going Ederson nearly conceded a self inflicted goal again…if these mistakes had been Bravo, all City fans would be in a rage Ederson is young and he is good but he needs to learn when to come and when to stay. Overall, I would say we tried, played some good football but did not win a game we should have. On to next match. I see Laporte, Garcia and another as the CBs next season

19th January 2020 at 9:14 am #60938No way United will win. Let’s have a look at it realistically.
Why United win: We’re usually (but only usually) better against the top teams because we can park the bus, sit back and rely on the pace of Martial, James and Rashford. Which isn’t the way a United team should play, by the way.Why Liverpool win: They’re at home. They have the better manager. Player for player they are the superior team. They have been in form basically for one and a half season now. In comparison United are blowing hot and cold.
If I had to put percentages on it I’d say it’s 90 % chance of a Liverpool win, 5 % of a draw and 5 % of a United win.
If United beat Liverpool at Anfield as things are now it would be like a lightweight amateur boxer wearing swimming feet knocking out Tyson Fury.

19th January 2020 at 9:22 am #60940Anonymous“Adlab, I know itโs very early days for Jose but I think the man is done mate ”
“Heโs not moving with the times. I can only see his spurs tenure ending in failure”
I think you might be right but he might surprised us. The thing is, that won’t be at Spurs. Levy wasn’t the type to spend before and well now…. now they need HEAVY investment, for a whole new project. Now, perhaps there has been some kind of agreement in place for Jose to get something in the region of 200m this summer but I seriously doubt it and AFAIK they aren’t doing anything this window?. I doubt he’ll have 100m to spend and TBH, unless they used that amount very cleverly, it wouldn’t be enough.
This is of course working under the assumption that Eriksen is off. If they were to somehow manage to keep him and get him happy again then it’s definitely cheaper… but come on, he’s going and they aren’t going to get much, if anything for him. I read somewhere that he was desperate to leave immediately, so there could be a small fee but haven’t really been keeping track of his situation besides that.
Even if Jose did get a side that he wanted etc though, we’ve got to go back to the first point. Is Jose burnt out and out-dated? I’m not convinced that he’s got the temperament anymore. I mean, he barely had it to begin with and seemed to have a shorter fuse to the Jose who is not in control of what he says or does ๐

19th January 2020 at 9:39 am #60941AnonymousSrd, it’s a derby. I don’t think ALL THAT “goes out the window”, as is usually said when talking about derbies but if this were an equation, everything you’ve spoken about would be parameters and their values would be under a kind of catalytic derby influence to push those values up or down.
In my humble experience, it’s the under-dogs who are more likely to improve but as you know, that doesn’t mean the game will be more enjoyable, as they can get a bit scrappy.
Were it not a derby, I’d say ya, 5 or less % chance of Utd winning, even with their record of doing well against the better sides. I mean that would be the only thing keeping that % up around there at all TBH but look at our record against ye. Klopp hasn’t won at Old Trafford yet and I don’t think we’ve actually looked like ourselves in a single match against Utd, since he’s taken charge. A lot of the aspects of our play that people associate with Klopp’s Liverpool have been muted in this fixture.
I still wouldn’t give Utd more than a 15% chance of winning, if even settling somewhere around 10 TBH but what’s their chance of getting a draw? I’d say it’s pretty high. I don’t really like working with percentages that I pick from the air TBH but I would be concerned about a draw today.
I say this whilst thinking that we’ll most likely win. I’m hoping that we’ll get to finally really turn it on again in this fixture and to leave the scrappy, kinda boring affairs in the past.

19th January 2020 at 10:48 am #60945Utd can break fast. We sometimes only have two at the back as the full backs are so high. Thatโs my main concern but if we play like we can then we will win
