It won’t happen but I would gladly have Son at Chelsea Paxton even ahead of Kane he’s one of my favourite opposition players. Agree with you on Moura though and the need for investment.

20th January 2020 at 8:49 am #61050Nine, Jose did yes. Moyes? No not for me. His record was OK but, unlike the examples cited in Pep and Klopp, he had zero experience at a top club and no record of competing for, never mind winning, trophies. But yes Jose deserved more time IMO and, more importantly, deserved full backing in the transfer market which I’m not sure he had. His record earned him that time. Hence my point.
Again, I have to disagree about Keane’s point. The problem isn’t giving the managers too little time. The problem is picking the wrong managers. Chelsea were the most successful club in England for a decade or so and were rightly or wrongly the worst for giving managers time. I’m not suggesting we start swapping managers every year or so in the hope of replicating Chelsea’s success. I’m just saying there is no shame in admitting you got the choice of manager wrong.
Rodgers probably deserved more time at Liverpool, as did Pellegrini at City. Certainly more so than Ole now. Few are arguing that now though.

20th January 2020 at 8:56 am #61051On Jose, he did get 2 and a half seasons at Utd which is quite fair I think. Plenty of time to show you’re up to the job. Still think he should have been backed rather than Pogba though. As I said, his record at other clubs earned him that time

20th January 2020 at 9:10 am #61052well now, my thoughts of the weekend, i shall talk Arsenal first as they and many other clubs dont get a mention here (yet we always get a blow by blow comentary of every liverpool match as the match is being played and Nil isnt even here!) ;P
We really should have got all 3 points but once again were just to average, Tony Adams was watching our game and he wasnt happy, very little quality and we just cant hold on for a win! Arteta really needs to start getting some 3 points on the board
Some great results otherwise, not sure how pool didnt score more, funny that TMA on the other site has started using LiVARpool in his posts when VAR then robbed pool!
side note, did anyone notice Haalands first few minutes for Dortmund? they were 3-1 down away form home, they bring him on, gets his first goal in a couple of minutes and completes his hatrick in a 5-3 win for dortmund inside 20 minutes!
maybe not so overrated after all ๐

20th January 2020 at 9:13 am #61053It’s sooooo frustrating being a Spud at the moment.
On paper, we have some quality players but the secret sauce we had during the 16/17 & 17/18 seasons seems to have dried up. Was it the lack of investment? Or was it the aggro of the stadium build? Or was it something else? Probably all a combination of all 3.
It was obviously stick or twist, that little bit of extra investment on the pitch vs a nice new stadium which helps set us up for a lot longer. Obviously we’ll never know now what might have happened if Levy went for the pitch-investment instead. Now, Levy has taken the gamble to appoint a manager who does have a great CV (even if he is a bell-end of the highest order) to try and get some pots before this squads “cycle” is complete.
Unfortunately it’s looking like that gamble isn’t going to work based on the last 4 or 5 games. The team looks dire to say the least.
This summer is going to be the one that makes or breaks us I think. I can see a lot of ins and outs, and not just Wee Erik who is off. I wouldn’t be surprised to see both Son and N-Sick”dumb”Note to disappear either. We’re certainly going to see a new Spud team next season….

20th January 2020 at 11:57 am #61054said it before and i will say it again you lot do seem to be following the arsenal model, with the stadim move and everything and the same thing has happened with the team and investment or lack there of, the only silver lining is Levy wont be selling any stars to United or City to help them win the bloody PL whilst you tank!!

20th January 2020 at 12:35 pm #61055Ed, I agree Chelsea have been the world’s worst for getting rid of Managers often too early imo.
I think it’s still 50/50 on whether Ole gets more time or not obviously a top 4 place or winning the FA Cup could work in his favour but whoever United get next I think United as a Club have to give them a bit more time it’s such a massive ship to turn and point in the right direction.
I hope Chelsea give Frank the Summer and next season before deciding whether he’s right or wrong for the Club I think they will but there are no guarantees. Cheers 9’s

20th January 2020 at 12:51 pm #61056Thing is Buffy, we’re loaded right now, and Levy (by all accounts) saw the flaws in the “Goonie” model and along with the FFP rules has structured everything is such a manner it doesn’t really have an impact in the transfer budget. Of course, I maybe wrong, and it was all cyber fish wrappings, but I fully expect Spuds to spunk a fair wedge over the next couple of summer transfer windows.
Unfortunately, the self inflicted transfer ban has come back to bite us in the Arsenal and it will take another window or 2 to get back to the heady heights of yesteryear.

20th January 2020 at 1:10 pm #61057have you not just undone your own argument in the same breath there Nancy!?
your are loaded and Levy had it all planned so you always had cash, why then the self imposed transfer ban for a year and half?
also who you have brought in has not been the greatest quality, the only half decent chaps there want out and the people youre currenlty being linked with (Slamani????) wouldnt fill me with confidence!
why not spend if you could, why handicap a good manager leading him to be sacked, and pay out on that and then get maureen in on top dollar but then give him nothing to spend in Jan (unless you do get a 5th rate striker to cover ‘arry)
the way spuds have behaved as a club since the building began and slightly before seems almost identicle to us other than selling your stars to riavls so they can win the PL!!!
so you havent had to sell stars but you havent bought many and not top table players and you pay tiny wages compared to most and all of thats resulted in an unhappy knackered squad …..
still in another 2 years WHEN you do spunk hundreds of million (like we have) you will be preciseley where you (and we) are!

20th January 2020 at 1:11 pm #61058Daniel Levy and “I fully expect Spuds to spunk a fair wedge over the next couple of summer transfer windows.” doesn’t really go together given Levy’s history whether Spurs are loaded or not but we’ll see.
There is definitely a need for reinvestment but Spurs have shot themselves in the foot by allowing some of their most valuable players in the transfer market run their contracts down to nothing had Chelsea done the same with Hazard they wouldn’t have got anywhere near the ยฃ80/ยฃ100m they did.
Despite suggestions otherwise Spurs were fairly conservative in the Summer window and have so far signed a player on a long term loan in this window.

20th January 2020 at 1:16 pm #61060Just because we have a wedge to spunk, doesn’t mean we need to follow the YooUtd model of buying anybody with 2 feet either… as much as I would love Levy to spunk 300 million to prove the point we can spunk 300 million, I wouldn’t want him to buy players like Emoji-man, that Maria fella who was pants, anybody called Fred (or Slaphead for that matter)… ๐

20th January 2020 at 1:18 pm #61062thats all well and good but you havent bought anyone decent for a long time on any amount of cash!
dont mind ยฃ300m, spent a sold ยฃ100-200m and see what value and “class” of player you get….best to check if your standing in a glass house before throwing them stones ๐things come back to bite you…like Maureen managing your beloved chickens ๐

20th January 2020 at 1:21 pm #61063As the below tweet shows, Arsenal saving money some years ago didnโt really help due to the corresponding rocketing up of transfer fee inflation. And then when they did start spending money, they spent it badly:
In 2011 Gazidis said that โwe deliberately kept some powder dryโ re #AFC spending plans, which has made no sense, as transfer fees inflation has meant that prices have rocketed up, while the weaker Pound has further reduced the clubโs spending power abroad. pic.twitter.com/oU6s02KJYi

20th January 2020 at 1:50 pm #61065If youโre a Manchester United person, essentially, working at the club in this last seven or eight years you have to take responsibility for this, through the bad decisions that have been made.
โFor Liverpool, theyโve made good decisions, theyโve recruited well, theyโve got a great manager” Garry Neville.
He’s not wrong is he.

20th January 2020 at 2:20 pm #610699s-Very true m8,but Utds era of dominance is over, and somebody elses turn.We enjoyed our time @ the top while it lasted.I really wish we dont spend stupid money on the likes of Maguire anymore. From now on most teams will have to build squads, not buy them ready made.
