25th January 2021 at 6:03 pm #174371GJ blues no worries mate. What I was driving at is that there are expectations that come with rich owners and the investment ploughed in. I think with you guys in particular one of the aims has been to try and win the Champions League.
Pep holds his pedigree as he’s won domestic cup competitions and effectively achieving silverware each season.👍⚽

25th January 2021 at 6:49 pm #174374On the topic, Pep should give Frank a call and offer him a position as one of our coaches (to replace Arteta) 😉

25th January 2021 at 7:42 pm #174379Maverick…I am sure Lampard will make a good Manager in time, the Chelsea job was too early for him in my opinion, nothing wrong though in starting with a Championship side

25th January 2021 at 7:45 pm #174380Does Britain have any charismatic managers with tactical nouse? Why aren’t we producing them? The only one who I think would be the best bet out the “golden” generation would be John Terry. I know he might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he’s very much his own man, seems calm, is well respected football wise, and I think he sort of does exude a quite charisma. And he’s very much out the limelight at the moment at Villa.

25th January 2021 at 8:06 pm #174383That’s a good question Mikus, great leaders inspire and motivate, they get people to buy into their ideas and beliefs and then those ideas and beliefs become theirs. I would suggest that all the successful football mangers have this, the more successful they are the more of it they have. If you make a list of top teams they outnumber the number of top mangers. Britain has had a few of them, Clough, Ferguson etc, but currently I would say we’re waiting for the next one….Pagan

25th January 2021 at 8:13 pm #174387It’s a good question Mikus. We seem to be good at producing the dogged, fist pumping, relegation battler type of managers. The Warnocks, Allardyces, Dyches etc. But we rarely produce the tactically astute, revolutionary managers who bring something new to the game.
Is it a reflection of the playing style the British players have been used to in their playing days? The fact few have been away and played outside the UK?

25th January 2021 at 8:28 pm #174390Ed, possibly one example to your description I could name so far is Scott Parker. He comes across quite classy and grounded.

25th January 2021 at 8:32 pm #174391I think that may be part of it Ed. Also as Pagan says, these types of manager don’t tend to grow on trees even at the best of times. I do wonder if part of the problem in this country is that our gutter press puts a lot of people off. I know Graham Taylor may not have been the best manager for England but the way the press treated him was just disgraceful. They don’t just criticise (which is legitimate) but they dehumanise them. People may say top managers should still be able to deal with this (and many do) but even so, we hardly do our best to encourage them.

25th January 2021 at 8:32 pm #174392What’s needed is an English equivalent of Arteta working with Pep or similar. A good example would be Gerrard working with Kloppp or Lampard working with Pep.

25th January 2021 at 8:42 pm #174393The vast majority of top managers weren’t the most gifted of players, they were the ones that had to think and work hard, however the tendency in this country is the opposite to this……Pagan

25th January 2021 at 8:49 pm #174394Frank Lampard statement on his sacking.
In a statement, Lampard said: “It has been a huge privilege and an honour to manage Chelsea, a club that has been a big part of my life for so long.
“Firstly, I would like to thank the fans for the incredible support that I have received over the last 18 months. I hope they know what that means to me.
“When I took on this role I understood the challenges that lay ahead in a difficult time for the football club.
“I am proud of the achievements that we made, and I am proud of the academy players that have made their step into the first team and performed so well. They are the future of the club.
“I am disappointed not to have had the time this season to take the club forward and bring it to the next level.
“I want to thank Mr Abramovich, the board, players, my coaching team and everyone at the club for their hard work and dedication, especially in these unprecedented and challenging times.
“I wish the team and the club every success for the future.”
