The result didn’t matter, I just hope that Gomez can make a full recovery and get back playing again.

Donโ€™t agree at all blaze. Why wasnโ€™t the chodbury tackle againest salah shown as a red when it was a cynical deliberate trip?

That was worse then sons tackle. You see tackles like this all the time. Itโ€™s just very unfortunate what happened to Gomez.

Well Said Sean. Hamza got away with murder and Salah’s not been the same player since.

The injury from a Football POV irrespective of the Team you support is of distraught.

It’s easy to get swamped into arguments of other examples, but Gomez has suffered a serious Leg Injury and just as Human Beings we all stand by him for a COMPLETE RECOVERY.

Blaze, so every trip from now on is a red??? You canโ€™t judge the consequences, you have to judge the event, so for myself thatโ€™s a yellow all day long…Pagan

I’m not sure where exactly I stand on this. I haven’t been able to see much in the way of angles for this but I am inclined to think it could be a red card.

Does Son’s tackle directly break his leg? I was going to say No but even then I’m not 100% sure. It does seem like Son’s tackle from behind leads to the player breaking his leg, the very next time his foot comes around to landing though. With tackles from behind, players have little ability to anticipate. I’ve no idea how the rules handle this but in my mind, Son has indirectly broken this guys leg by taking away that ability to avoid or lessen the coming collision.

“Donโ€™t agree at all blaze. Why wasnโ€™t the chodbury tackle against salah shown as a red when it was a cynical deliberate trip?”

The challenge against Salah was 100% a red card. I don’t think they are comparable at all except that they were btho tackl;es from behind. One was an attempt to win the ball though. The challenge against Salah (which he has still not recovered from btw) was as cynical as you’ll get but apparently refs are rating challenges on the adverse effects. Salah played on that day, for a while but has he managed a full 90 minutes since? I notice that he’s been subbed a bit more cause his ankle hasn’t recovered fully. This has definitely impacted his performances for us too. I’m not bitter about it because we’re no longer a one man team but they need to add more kinds of punishments for players, since refs feel uncomfortable with “ruining the game”… that’s another story though I guess.

Having another look at Son’s, was he trying to win the ball? Attacking players don’t tend to read when to challenge as well as others but the ball is long gone.

I am leaning towards Son’s being a straight red but as I said, I just don’t like how tackling from behind has crept back into the game. If you do this, then you’d got to do it perfectly, or you’re putting the other lad in serious risk. I think we could trust Fabinho to manage this and not seriously hurt someone, so maybe an outright ban of it is not the answer either.

Huge difference between giving Son a yellow instead of a red apart from the obvious punishment is the psychological affect it has on Son and the public’s general perception of him. Son’s reaction to the injury even before the red was shown was clear for all to see. He was horrified. His tackle did not cause the injury. Gomez gets straight up and it is a yellow every day of the week. If the card remains as a red then for all intents and purposes Son is found guilty of a heinous crime against a fellow human being and his health and general well being. A stigma he must not be burdened with in this case. The card must be overturned and changed to a yellow on appeal. I would even suggest the powers that be overturn it themselves without the need for a appeal.

The tackle was most likely retribution for the tackle a few minutes prior by Gomez on Son but notwithstanding I don’t think it should be relevant and part of a thought process on Son’s intention at the time.

The game is played more than ever at a different pace and intensity.

Not sure on the radio why an example of Liverpool-Leeds was brought up from the 60s. If anything, that just highlights how much the game has evolved.

Our Big Tv screens at home make these guys look big and strong, etc, but the majority of them are slender, weigh very little and are athletic.

This a very rare occurrence. All hope towards Gomez recovering. When there is a collision in a tight area involving more than one body, somebody comes off worse.

We really need to work on getting the Refereeing and Technology right. I’m all for the usual guys involved to remove themselves and allow new set of eyes.

“His tackle did not cause the injury”

                            It did, indirectly.

If Son doesn’t make that tackle from behind, do you think he breaks his leg randomly with his next stride? No he doesn’t.

It was a reckless challenge from behind, the red is warranted in my opinion. Did he mean to hurt him? Was he horrified at the resulting injury? No he did and yes he was absolutely horrified but you know what lads, that makes absolutely no difference as to whether it was a red card or not.

All our thoughts should be with Gomes today as he has his Operation.

Son didn’t mean what happened to happen and he definitely isn’t that sort of player terrible thing for him to carry too.

Tbh I can’t see the red card being overturned as it will judged as Mak indicated.

Heven’t kept up with the news however noted today after seeing Son out there for Spuds that the red card was rescinded. A great decision in my opinion as it removes him from direct culpability with the Gomes injury, a burden that psychologically would not have been good for him to carry. Clearly there are some nasties out there, both at the matches and on social media that would have annihilated Son unmercifully for weeks on end but for that decision. Well done the FA with the decision. You can bet that Son would have made contact with Gomes to wish him well and check on his wellbeing.
