31st December 2017 at 3:09 pm #10616Not trying to be funny but guess that’s one way of holding City. Kick them to pieces. I’m a Chelsea supporter in case you think I’m a City guy.

31st December 2017 at 4:22 pm #10632Wimbledon in the 1990s Rob Tab. From afar, I’ve got a lot of time for Palace and I hope they stay in the top flight for years to come. Not an easy place to go and take something away.
As long as it’s fair within the rules and no maliciousness, I have no problem with their gritty style of play and it beats parking the bus and running down the clock wasters any day of the week.
There are teams however that always take it a bit too far, and that’s why I hate Merseyside derbies at times. Look what happened last season when Mane was injured and he was out for quite a bit. No official batted an eyelid.
United of that mid early to mid 90s coped with the rough and tumble because they had individuals like Ince, Keane who could take it and give it back.

31st December 2017 at 4:27 pm #10635Nil, City would have to lose 5 of their next 17 games for Chelsea to catch them and then Chelsea would have to win almost every game.
It won’t happen. City are far too good and Pep far to astute for that.

31st December 2017 at 4:34 pm #10639Nine, even if it doesn’t happen by your theory and logic, would you rather you did everything to push City all the way and come finishing close, or be casual and be runners up by 20 points?
Obviously after 38 games, it doesn’t polish the runners up place any shinier and ultimately the history books don’t give a damn, but I always say it’s something to build on and besides, by adopting this attitude and aiming high, you are allowing 2nd place to take care of itself because as it stands a 5 teams at least stand a realistic chance.

31st December 2017 at 4:58 pm #10648Nil, I’m just being realistic mate obviously I want Chelsea to make the best fist of it that they can.
Chelsea are currently on a decent run of form at the moment with one defeat two draws and 12 wins in the last 15 games which on current form would give them 88 points at the end of the Season which would probably be enough to take 2nd place which obviously should be the Chelsea target given that they are the reigning Champions.
But it won’t be enough to get past City imo because City would only need to win 10 of their last 17 games to almost certainly take the title on goal difference from Chelsea.
But we weren’t discussing 2nd place we were discussing overtaking City and that still looks 200% like Mission Impossible to me.

31st December 2017 at 5:05 pm #10652Nine, fair dos mate. I appreciate and understand, but don’t give up hope that’s all I’m saying. You guys have done well considering you lost one of your prolific strikers in Costa, plus losing Matic to a Competitor.
Good healthy league, and from that point of view, I wouldn’t want the title race wrapped up so quickly and easily.
Cheers

31st December 2017 at 5:19 pm #10660It might happen if the clear targeting of City’s creative players condoned by the referees continues. Shocking and to my mind blatant tactics.

Isn’t that what Antonio Conte has been complaining about since last season? teams targeting Hazard? well De Bruyne have joined that list and good luck to you guys. you will see more and more teams replicating that treatment over the course of the season. and i won’t be surprised if Mohamed Salah joins that list. as he is playing superbly and is the Liverpool engine. watch-out my Liverpool friends will soon be complaining about that.

1st January 2018 at 8:03 am #10687Here is what Antonio Conte has said about Costa unveiling at Athletico yesterday.
Conte “It’s not right to talk about players who are not in my team and squad.

1st January 2018 at 1:54 pm #10736Blatant a dive as you will see by Smith in Brighton vs Bmouth game. No pen given by Oliver correctly, but I wonder if that will go before the Dive panel? If not why Not?

1st January 2018 at 2:17 pm #10741Jim@1:54pm This might help shed a bit more light:
Terry Butcher, Lee Dixon and Danny Murphy are among the ex-players and managers tasked with dishing out two-match bans to divers this season – but there are no former strikers in the group.
The trio were joined by fellow ex-England internationals Trevor Sinclair, Chris Powell and Rachel Brown-Finnis in a Football Association pool that will review suspected cases of what is being called ‘successful deception of a match official’.
Butcher and Powell are two of four out-of-work managers, along with Alex McLeish and Nigel Adkins, appointed to a pool in which they are among two ex-goalkeepers, four ex-defenders and two ex-midfielders.
Each suspected case will be reviewed by a three-strong panel of one manager, one ex-player and one former referee, selected from Eddie Wolstenhome, Alan Wiley, Mike Mullarkey, Steve Dunn and Keren Barratt.
Panel members will not be able to sit in judgment on cases in which there may be a conflict of interest.
The FA introduced the new offence of ‘successful deception of a match official’ this summer as part of a crackdown on diving and feigning injury.Incidents where a player is suspected of such cheating can only be examined if the offending team has been awarded a penalty or it has contributed to an opposing player being sent off.
Following an incident, each of the three appointed panel members will be asked to review footage of it independently of the other two.
Their verdict must be unanimous for a charge to be issued.
Should the charge be admitted, or denied and later found proven by an independent regulatory commission, the guilty player would receive a two-match suspension.
The FA’s rationale for the punishment is that although feigning injury and simulation is a cautionable offence when detected by the match officials, successfully deceiving those officials to secure a penalty and/or dismissal justifies a more severe sanction.
In the event that a charge is admitted or denied and later found proven, the independent regulatory commission shall consider whether or not to rescind an associated caution or dismissal received by an opposing player as a result of the simulation.
