30th December 2017 at 7:39 pm #10495I always bang the drums with this and that’s purely because I know I’m making a sound point.
Only 1 draw in their last 7 games but kudos to Chelsea for winning successive games.
I understand the theories made from current table standings, but my theory is “just keep moving forward and try and achieve 3 points”.
3 draws in a row for United now and we ourselves now only sit 3 points behind them given the gap a few weeks or so back.
The first caller I kid you not on 606 as I type is a United fan and has echoed my point. “Forget whether City are title bound, just make sure you focus and try and win your own games” (words to that effect).
Whether or not there is a twist, you are there ready to capitalize. That’s what the course of 38 games is about.
Hopefully, going into 2018, the arrival of Van Dijk steel, and if we were to finish Runners up with a good account of points accumulated, that wouldn’t be a bad achievement and if anything a solid platform to build on to attract new faces of high quality.

30th December 2017 at 7:43 pm #10499Mourinho blames the ref for United’s draw. Honestly i have never seen Mourinho so low as he was today. He was clearly hurting. Pressure is growing on him. Next if Everton and big Sam.

30th December 2017 at 7:58 pm #105086 points in the last 3 more like, Sean. We just look completely devoid of any confidence at the moment. It’s a different side to the one that started like a train at the start of the season.
I’m not sure where we go from here. Mourinho can’t possibly survive many more of those kind of performances after having spent what he has spent.
We’ll struggle even more now with Lukaku possibly out for a while and Zlatan our for a month.
It’s all about securing top 4 now and going as far as we can in the CL and FA Cup, by which time we have hopefully got our confidence back.
Sacking Mourinho must be tempting for them but I honestly can’t see an obvious replacement with enough pedigree to take on a job with such high pressure and expectation. Ancelotti is not the man for Utd for me.

30th December 2017 at 8:12 pm #10510Disappointing result for Bristol City today they dominated the game before the Wolves sending off and after the sending off but got done by a great ball which led to Fielding pulling the Wolves player down and getting himself sent off and that Barry Douglas strikes a great ball from the resultant free kick and Wolves were level and and did again in injury time after one of my neighbours Marlon Pack conceded a silly free kick.
We’ll done to Wolves though they look sure to come up.

30th December 2017 at 10:11 pm #10529βToday, we finished a great year for us β for the club, for the fans, for the players, for me. For a first experience in the league, to win the title is not easy, so I have to thank the club for giving me this opportunity.β Antonio Conte 30/12/2017

30th December 2017 at 10:57 pm #10532You have to enjoy this Mourinho meltdown. United had been poor today and all he does is blame the Referee? everyone is having a laugh at him. i can’t see him surviving in the summer. it was usually the third season that he behaves like this. but this season he has started early. United’s squad isn’t as bad as he is making. they can go toe to toe with any team. Martin Keown said today he has lost the players. i won’t be surprised if that is true. and add salt in to the injury, Chelsea has overtaken him? that made my weekend.

30th December 2017 at 11:39 pm #10534ED out of interest why would you not fancy Ancelotti? The United job was always going to be a poisoned chalice fter fergusson and has seen off Moyes Van Gal and likely Mouriniho. Where do the board go from here. The Glazers expect almost instant results so cant really afford risks with young unproven managers Zidane?

31st December 2017 at 6:48 am #10537Jim, I’m not sure any of the top clubs now can take a risk on a completely unproven manager. The Zidane/Guardiola appointments at Real and Barca respectively, were at least done on the back of a reasonable spell with the club’s B team which I think helps to ease them in. It would be a huge gamble to give the job to someone like Giggs without him having at least managed one of the youth sides. You can see Gerrard being groomed for the Liverpool job now by taking over the youth side.
For me, the Utd job is, even now, a very difficult job that requires a certain kind of character. With Ferguson lurking in the shadows, both literally and metaphorically, any future manager needs a certain arrogance to succeed. Any spell of difficulty, they’ll be reminded of Ferguson. There’s the statue, the stand named after him, the corridors are likely filled with framed pictures remembering their success. For me, Ancelotti seems too nice to be able to cope with that. He’s been sacked from a number of jobs now.
One of two things need to happen IMO. Either Mourinho needs to be even further assured by the board and by Ferguson that his job is secure no matter what. The power enjoyed by Ferguson at the club was a massive advantage over his rivals. Ferguson’s players knew they couldn’t get away with not playing for the manager. He was never going to get sacked so it was a case of listening to the boss or finding a new club. Players too often now know the manager will get the sack if poor performances continue so lack the same drive to get out of the rut.
Alternatively, we need to get rid of Mourinho and take a massive risk on one of Giggs, Neville or the like. I know that’s not a popular choice amongst fans but I do wonder if that’s the only way we’ll ever progress as a club again as long as Ferguson is still around.

31st December 2017 at 8:08 am #10538Although United were poor yesterday and are in a poor run of results I thought it was very poor of Keown to come out with his “he’s lost the dressing room” comment.
Nobody outside of an ex United player with a real in into the dressing room would know that and I doubt even Garry Neville has a sufficient in to know that but Keown is a pundit and saying such things gets him noticed for 10 minutes.
United can’t keep changing Managers and as the Ed above highlights the problems that exist for any Manager walking through the door at OT will always be there and it’s a massive task for anyone to take on.
Perhaps the Board and United fans should think back to the beginnings of the incredible Ferguson era and how long it took Fergie to get it right and had they knee jerked then after less than two seasons the Ferguson era would never have happened and Fergie won nothing at United in his first few seasons whilst Mourinho won two trophies in his first season.
The Ed is right though the Board need to demonstrate their ongoing support for Mourinho or sack him and try again but Ancelotti is not the answer he won’t cause the negative PR but he’s far too nice for the United role.

31st December 2017 at 9:29 am #105419, I think Keown May be correct though, look at Jose, does he cut the figure of an inspirational figure? with his current demeanour would you want him leading you into battle?
For me he has to leave and go to PSG, dominate a league, and get his mojo back….Pagan

31st December 2017 at 9:51 am #10543Somethings not right there. The players certainly don’t look motivated.
And the excuses are rapidly becoming silly and very transparent. Soon no one aside from Mouriniho will believe them!

31st December 2017 at 10:14 am #10545I think itβs crazy to even talk about Jose been sacked. Utd are 3rd and in group stages of the cl.
They have some very good players who are just not playing well. Shaw was unreal at the saints. Heβs a very good player and should be Englandβs 1st choice left but for whatever reason heβs been poor and injured
Miki, Rashford, martial etc are very good players but they are being played out of position.
Jose is like Rafa. Itβs more about not losing in the last 20 min then winning. De Gea is their most vital player. Pogba Be should like kdb but heβs not at his level
Out of the top 6 trans Utd are the worst to watch. No utd fan will care once he delivers the pl but they look miles off that
