6th January 2018 at 1:55 pm #11234Sounds to me as if Jose is just looking for an excuse to jump ship/be sacked and off to PSG!

6th January 2018 at 3:30 pm #11245Currently Mourinho is rowing his boat through troubled waters but even though he’s going through those troubled waters Mourinho still says he wants to stay at United.
Football fortunes turn around very quickly Mourinho might be a prize plum and a complete Arsenal at times but I still wouldn’t rule him out of winning the PL at United.

6th January 2018 at 3:35 pm #112489, nothing new there though is there, he likes to say he’s staying, sign a new deal, engineer his own downfall and take a bit of a payout. Maybe a bit cynical of me, but it does seem to be his modus operandi….Pagan

6th January 2018 at 3:50 pm #11252Sounds about right Pagan. Not only that, inspite of winning the League, he was sacked twice by Chelsea on 2 different tenures. I think that speaks more about him of his vision and values.

6th January 2018 at 5:24 pm #11264United are currently 2nd, in to the knockout stages of the CL and are through to the next round of the FA Cup, that is a massive improvement from last season. If that is United and Jose in a massive meltdown, where does that leave the other PL clubs.
Conte this week hit out at the Chelsea board again. There is uncertainty over his future. He claims the players that he got over the summer were not his targets, rarely gets the players he wants and looks like a man rattled considering his attack on Jose.
A common trend has occured at Chelsea FC after they have won a major trophy, where they fail to relive the previous season and pressure on the manager mounts. Ancelotti, Di Matteo, Jose and now Conte.

6th January 2018 at 5:48 pm #11267cm, ha,ha, nice try but you can’t absolve Mourinho of all of the nonsense he has been spouting in recent weeks on the back of Conte not being happy with who the Chelsea Board have bought him especially as Mourinho was claiming pretty much the same only a few days ago!

6th January 2018 at 5:52 pm #11270Why would you let a manager have total control of transfers, their shelf life is very short and the club then flip flops from ne style to the next. Man City seem to have bought players to take the club in the direction they want and the managers also seem to be of a certain style cut, hence the squad they have now, suits the style they want.
Conte cannot moan about the club dictating to him the players they want when he won’t himself commit to the club, he signs a new 5 year contract, he may get more say…Pagan

6th January 2018 at 6:27 pm #11273Chicken and egg Pagan if the club don’t give Conte more say on transfers he will probably go in the Summer if they do I think he might well sign a new extended contract.

6th January 2018 at 6:39 pm #112769, as in all contracts you have to take into account the golden rule, he who has the gold makes the rules.
Conte has taken an improved contract, but not extended it, which was his chance to show a bit of commitment.
By the way nine, the egg cane first….Pagan

6th January 2018 at 8:06 pm #112999- Haha
Jose can be petty at times and I partly disagree with his spending comment, I reckon he deluded himself in to thinking he had a better squad that what he actually did have. Van Gaal bought a lot of deadwood. Reason why he has gone off on one in regards to spending etc.
Pagal-
The players Pep bought over the summer were his choosing. Just like the players the summer previously were his choosing. I agree that lack of commitment may force Chelsea board in to not following up on the managers request, but commitment works both ways. If Conte feels the board have let him down with targets, then why should he commit to the club when they refuse to allow him build the squad he wants that implements his style. Look at Klopp at Liverpool, he is slowly building a brilliant side with players he knows that will adapt to his style. If Klopp was at Chelsea, would he been given the same freedom? If he was at Chelsea and asked for Van Dijk, the board would have given him David Luiz.

6th January 2018 at 8:17 pm #11301c.m, I think you’ve missed my point, Man City have employed managers who have a similar footballing ethos, and they have bought the players they want, but the direction of the football has always been going in broadly the same way.
Chelsea on the other hand have employed managers who have pulled the club in different directions, and as such they have learned from that and are now trying to buy players to go in the direction they want the footballing identity of the club to go in.
They also now need to follow that through with the managers they employ…Pagan

6th January 2018 at 8:34 pm #11303cm, I don’t necessarily agree with the Chelsea structure with a Sporting Director and would rather the Manager had the last word on who comes in and who goes out but broadly speaking it’s worked for Chelsea and Conte knew what the structure was when he came.

6th January 2018 at 8:37 pm #11305Mourinho is a dead man walking, after United backed him in the last few transfer windows. United expect better than that. I can safely say United will not will the league this season. Pep has that in the bag already. You have qualified for the last 16 in CL. So was Chelsea, City, Spurs and Liverpool. More so United’s only hope a trophy is the FA cup. And everyone is still competing. Chelsea is in the semis of the EFL cup, In the last 16 of the CL, still competing in the FA cup, only a point behind United in the league. So if United is in anyway in the title race, then so is Chelsea. But a United fan would like to claim a glory over Chelsea this season?. Mourinho is finished at the top. He is in a decline.

6th January 2018 at 8:50 pm #11310Wise fan , come on mate cm never suggested that United could still win the PL. As you rightly say the League is done and dusted now bar a complete City collapse which is about as likely as Arsenal winning the Champions League this season!?

I personally can’t stand on this classless individual called Mourinho. He has disrupted the beautiful game. And if you want to see how he disruped, just look at the games that he is involved. I can’t remember enjoying those games that he is involved. He is truly Mr. Boring. And this league is better without him. You have to feel for the United fans. After their club spend £300m in the last 2 summers. They are subjected to such boring football and excuse after excuse. For club who has been known for their attacking side of the game. Are forced to master the dark arts of it. Thank God that he is United’s problem now. I can’t see United falling in to the trap that we have fallen in 2015 and giving him 4 years and sacking him months in to his contract, and then has to pay him the remainder of his contract._____________________________

I understood your point. My point was that the manager has the final say in transfers at most top clubs, but with the exception of Chelsea. Conte has come out and said that the club have ignored his targets and gone for alternatives.
Chelsea are yet to prove they are going the direction that you’re suggesting. If Chelsea end up with Simeone, you have 2 different type of managers in Conte and Simeone. Simeone is just as cautious as Jose with his football. Whilst I agree at City they opt for attacking minded coaches and it makes the transition easier. But in general the manager has the last word on incomings. Going back to your commitment comment, do you think Conte would have commited if the board backed him and allowed him to build on last seasons success?
