cm, whilst I agree with you that the press have played their part in stoking up this conflict you’re kidding yourself if you think that Mourinho’s clown remarks weren’t aimed at rival Managers one of which was certainly Conte and Mourinho has been trying to rattle Conte’s cage ever since Conte joined Chelsea with a whole series of snipey spiteful remarks and let’s not forget that Mourinho has history for all this sort of stuff that goes way back to his early days at Chelsea.
What Conte did wrong was to get caught up in Mourinho’s nonsense but as some of the other lads have said on here there’s only so much someone can take from Mourinho without biting back.
Personally I think Conte went too far with his Senile Dementia description and he could have made his point without saying that but Mourinho is entering a new area of awfulness even for him with his Match fixing barb but that’s him and he will always escalate things to an unacceptable level at some point.
The FA need to step in now and tell both Mourinho and Conte to shut up or risk charges of bringing the game into disrepute.

6th January 2018 at 8:18 am #11186It’s not very often I defend Mourinho but I’ve just watched the press conference again and he’s directly answering a question he was asked about whether he still has the same passion for the game. He can be a real twat but, for me, he’s definitely talking about the change in himself here with regards to the clown comments.
All the nonsense after by both managers is ridiculous and indefensible on both sides but I think he’s been stitched up for once by misleading headlines. Conte offering to fight Mourinho was a bit funny though!

6th January 2018 at 8:39 am #11188The question, remember, was “do you still have the same desire, hunger to win?” which is clearly a suggestion that there is a noticeable change in his apparent passion, and asking whether that means he is less passionate than previously.
If the question was “Some would say you’re not as passionate as some of the other managers in the league. Is that the case?” then I would absolutely buy the theory that he’s having a dig but the context is just not right for this to be a dig IMO.

6th January 2018 at 8:57 am #11189Ed, only Jose knows why he introduced behaving like a clown on the touchline into the response to the question I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt but based on his previous form I think you might be being a tad generous but we’ll never know for sure.
What we do know is the press took that and threw it at Conte in his press conference and unfortunately imo he responded the way he did.
As for the Conte fight offer it could be bigger than the Connor McGregor v Floyd Mayweather fight I hear Ceasars Palace is interested in staging it.?
However if you read what Conte said though below I think he meant a verbal fight.
“There is a person that continues to look here. You understand? He went away, but he continued to look here.
“I am starting to be a bit annoyed. If you want to go to fight with me I am ready. I am improving a bit my English, because this is the real problem for me, otherwise we can go, we can go to fight.
“I’m ready to fight for me, for my players, for the club, with everyone. I have no problem.”
The match fixing barb was nasty and in fairness Conte was cleared of any wrong doing in the Italian Courts but I guess Jose was stung into that response by the Senile Dementia remark.
It’s not good from either of them imo and if it doesn’t stop the FA should get involved and warn the both of them.

6th January 2018 at 9:08 am #11190And after 47 posts from my cyber warrior chums, based on the evidence before me, I shall now concur with myself that ALL football managers are guilty as charged, namely of being “Asshats in the 1st degree”…

6th January 2018 at 9:13 am #11194Conte should I’d never have responded because I don’t think you can link the comments directly to him.
Jose is Jose. It’s why he’s despised by most people apart from supporters of the team he is managing
Spends 300m but needs more money
Says he never uses injuries as an excuse that goes onto mention all his injured playersGives out about managers celebrating when he’s done it so many times in the post
Absolute hypocrite of the highest order.

6th January 2018 at 9:19 am #11197AnonymousEditor defending Mourinho purely cause you a United fan. As the Chief of Footydebate you should always show impartiality. In case you not aware there are many United fans who want Maureen out cause they love their club more than the titles that may come. They do not want their beloved club to be dragged through the mud like his done at every other club.

I don’t think if Mourinho was sincere when he made those comments. “Because i don’t celebrate on the touchline like a clown doesn’t mean that i lost the passion” looks that its directed at someone else.and i won’t be surprised if that comment was directed at Conte since he is the one who runs up and down in the touchline. Mourinho has a history of trying to wind up managers. He has been trying that with Wenger, Pep, Klopp and Conte. But that is i prefer Conte to restrain himself. Let him do his talking on the pitch.

6th January 2018 at 9:30 am #11199Nine, even if the comment was innocent, as I suspect, then Jose only has himself to blame for the fact that people assume the intention was there to have a dig. It’s the boy that cried wolf. As you say, we’ll never know really but Jose’s history certainly doesn’t help my case!
In many ways it’s irrelevant though, as the comments afterwards by both managers were uncalled for and silly.
Banjo, pretty spot on!
Moos, I think I’ve been pretty impartial on Mourinho on this site. I did have him as my number 1 in my list of most annoying managers to be fair! But you are of course entitled to your opinion

6th January 2018 at 10:11 am #11216I honestly knew nothing of the sort between these exchanges from certain Managers. I know Fergie played mind games, but that’s pure football and nothing personal and sinister.
This has just been awfully emerged onto another level. Not nice.

6th January 2018 at 11:45 am #112279 and Chelseaman-
When I watched the press conference a few days ago on MUTV, I thought he was talking about himself. When he was questioned about his lost of passion, he mentioned about not behaving like a clown on the touchline and maturing now or something along those lines.
The problem with Jose is, no matter what he says, it will sell. You guys as Chelsea fans know that. Journalists will misinterpret what he says and opportunists who despise him will do whatever it takes to have a go at him. I have seen a few praise Conte for his unnecessary comments, but if the same was said by Jose, they would be uproar. He can be a tosser at times and does dig himself in to a hole and does drag his clubs down the gutter at times, but I genuinely believe his current comments were not aimed at anyone and a opportunist journalist baited Conte. How boring would their jobs be if they did not have something like this to write about.
