I think Nil makes a good point the media need to take some responsibility for stirring this particular pot.
We could just let them get on with it but I don’t think it’s great for the game or reflects well on either club.

8th January 2018 at 3:27 pm #11590Jim, on the other part of your point/post linked to what I think there’s something underlying within this thread, there’s an element of tribalism and preciousness. I think as the thread unravelled more comments, that’s when it started to get a bit heated.
There’s a few decent Managers on the circuit so to me, they are not all ‘Asshats’ to coin Chucky’s choice in use of term.
I don’t know whether it’s the Media that are doing this due to the ‘Big 6’ in the league, but there always tends to be more exposure and coverage of those Managers occupying the jobs of those clubs.
I think Poch is one of the least, the Media don’t really seem to pick up as he’s just naturally mild-mannered and doesn’t tend to say anything outside his comfort zone.
Wenger seems to regularly land himself an FA charge everytime he criticizes the Referee. And the ones with strong character and personalities that leave quotes are the ones Journos and Reporters love as a it’s an easy Headline-maker for them with column inches filled.

8th January 2018 at 3:29 pm #11592Sorry Nil, they are all asshats… can’t be Arsenaled to list half a dozen examples from ALL top 6 managers, but they’re all there… some just have a capital A…
We could very easily (as this thread proves) discuss who is a bigger asshat… and if the hat fits…

8th January 2018 at 3:34 pm #11594Just to be clear, I haven’t banned Wise-fan. If he decides he wants to come back to the site, he’s welcome to email me. I only removed his ability to post and will in turn delete his account at his request.

8th January 2018 at 3:39 pm #11596Chucky, my friend, I’d have to unfortunately disagree with you on that one.
I know particularly in this type of industry you need to be able to toughen up and have a ruthless streak, but in my years of experience in following the game, there have been Gentlemen in Management and ones in which brought decorum to the game.
The late Sir Bobby Robson being one of them. Always loved too the late Emlyn Hughes when he used to come on Question Of Sport – just a lovely bloke.
To a large degree, I can see where you’re coming from and there’s more people easily to dislike than like the way the industry is now be it a Player or a Manager – would still remain in faith that there are some good uns out there.

8th January 2018 at 3:42 pm #11599I’m sure I’ve seen Wise-fan previously on this site before this week – just seemed like any other poster to me, though liked in particular in him recognizing other decent Managers like David Wagner and Eddie Howe.

8th January 2018 at 5:26 pm #11615I understand Nine’s and Pagan stance on this, considering they know wise fan better than all of us. Jose is United’s problem now, some United fans rate him and some don’t. If this obsession has been going on for years, then someone had to mention it. There are a fair few who hate Jose, they don’t keep harping on about it.

8th January 2018 at 7:00 pm #11628Jose ‘The Maverick’ Mourinho v Antonio ‘The Italian Stallion’ Conte.
Give ’em each a pair of boxing gloves, put ’em in a ring (or cage) and they can sort it out.
Put it on Sky BO – bet they would make a fortune._____________________________

8th January 2018 at 8:08 pm #11653Jim and PPT, I was trying to be diplomatic but I’m more than happy with either of those two suggestions. Both would be appropriate.

8th January 2018 at 8:11 pm #11654ppt, sadly imo Mourinho has badly damaged his Chelsea legacy over the last 18 months and although most Chelsea fans particularly the match going fans appreciate what he contributed to the club particularly in his first period I’m not sure too many would want him back and tbh I don’t think there’s any chance of him coming back either way anyway.
I was really disappointed to see him leave the club the first time around and had mixed feelings about him coming back to Chelsea but at the time he was the very best available. Second time around given everything that happened it did feel like the relationship had more than run its course.
I will always be grateful to Mourinho for what he built at Chelsea the essence of which lasted way beyond his first tenure but his last season at Chelsea was draining and it got to where you didn’t want to see what had been unveiled by him in his latest Chelsea press conference but I won’t rubbish his tenures and claim he’s a nothing Coach but personally even if the circumstances were different I wouldn’t want to see him back at the club again.
Just my opinion though mate for what it’s worth. Cheers 999
