Fans travelling to games on a Boxing day is not a new phenomenon it’s been happening for as long as I can remember and it probably effects the home fans more than the away fans because the away Club will lay on Coaches for their fans to get to the game whilst the home fans will either have to make their way to the game via a diluted transport system or via their own transport.
I am sympathetic to the argument about an 8pm kick off on Boxing Day which effectively takes both home and away fans out of evening Boxing Day celebrations with their friends and family but as was said by Pagan you can’t take up to £149m from the TV companies and complain about the scheduling because like it or not the Piper calls the tune and our Clubs are reinvesting it in bringing the top players to their Clubs and the PL.
Chelsea have a 5:15 ko on Wednesday night in the CL away to Ajax and I won’t get to watch that one live and neither will the majority of working Chelsea fans. But again the Piper calls the tune.

Of course its better now. Nobody would doubt that for TV watchers, including me.
But how much would it cost for dad to take son(or daughter) to a Chelses home match on say Saturday and then away two days later, say to Wolves, including transport?_____________________________

19th October 2019 at 2:21 pm #50376Lucky, all good points buddie but Sky and BT Sport are made out as the big bad guys in all this it’s just worth remembering that without them nobody would be watching anything legal or illegal.
I hate the amount I have to pay to Sky and BT Sport but recognise the revenue they pay to the Club’s and the quality of service they provide.
I’m reluctant to pay anymore and extend it to Amazon but I suspect I might well do ultimately and reluctantly.
I do hope you are declaring your BT Sport benefit to HMRC as a benefit in kind.? Cheers 9’s

19th October 2019 at 2:26 pm #50377Adlab, that’s another discussion mate and I agree with you.
It costs me over £100 all up to attend a Chelsea game these days.
But if you want the best entertainment you have to pay for it and a good seat in the Theatre for a top show even at a regional Theatre will cost you £60/70.

19th October 2019 at 4:55 pm #50394Adlab,
Costs for live events are ridiculous, early 80s a ticket for footy was £3-4, a top rock band £3-4, Reading festival/Glastonbury £12-15 Donington (Only 1 day in those days)£10-12
What is it now? well broadly speaking top bands and prem footy £50-80, festivals £200+. Live events are now 20 times more expensive, musically that’s down to bands now making considerably less on album sales so have to make the money from touring and merchandise.
Footy is the odd one, that’s still a ridiculous increase despite the enormous amounts of money coming into the game from TV and sponsors, that increase is purely down to the greed of the players and agents…Pagan

19th October 2019 at 6:32 pm #50404Coaches generally are a decent option. I am at aghast though that we’ve reached 2019 and the Government has done nothing about bringing more convenience and encourage more fans to attend live games.
Liverpool match actually on Boxing Day is on a Thursday – can’t say now that I’m arsed about attending even if I can get tickets – 3pm would have been better.

19th October 2019 at 7:21 pm #50409Mr. Balance, not sure it’s the government’s job to encourage people to go to events, surely it’s the organiser of the events job to do that….Pagan

19th October 2019 at 7:27 pm #50410Lucky, when you say it’s no loss to Sky/BT, that’s not taking into account the fact that they are paying for exclusivity, which of course this negates…..Pagan

19th October 2019 at 7:31 pm #50411Mr Pagan, I was alluding to the Rail Service my friend.
We have outside the mainstream companies, City Bus and Arriva, the Orange Centrebus. I’d much rather they take the initiative to use this gap of an opportunity as a niche to run their services longer on a Bank Holiday.
I doubt realistically, it can happen for the sake of accommodating football.
I guess it’s the Coach Companies fans are to be reliant on.
Cheers

19th October 2019 at 7:32 pm #504129s, footy wasn’t brilliant today, the team hadn’t played for 3 weeks and it showed, but they came away with a 0-3 win so a good day when all said. Cricket went well, very intensive, everything filmed and analysed, and then fed back to the kids…Pagan

19th October 2019 at 7:35 pm #50413Mr. Balance, rail services are in the main run by private companies, the reason the services don’t run over the bank holidays is that the tracks have to be maintained and bank holidays cause less disruption….Pagan

How come, in regards the games they dont show? They have no exclusivity over them to negate. What I watched today, Chelsea v Newcastle, was not available to me to purchase. BT and SKY did not lose out because they werent selling it anyway, and the foreign channel hasnt lost out either as they cant sell to me.
People watching illegal streams of SKY and BT exclusive broadcasts are obviously causing a loss (presuming they would subscribe if they couldnt stream) but like I said the majority of games streamed imo are the games not availabe for us anyway.

19th October 2019 at 8:52 pm #50423Lucky, they have exclusivity to the fixtures on a certain day that are available to view in the UK, they pay to have the rights to all of those games they then pick the one they want to show live. They are not allowed to show 3pm kick offs on a Saturday, so the games they pick have to move. Just because they choose not to show a game live doesn’t mean they don’t own the rights to do so. They then show the highlights of all of the games, as do the BBC on MOTD, who also pay to show highlights…Pagan

19th October 2019 at 8:56 pm #50424If a Business can come up with one with one Tarif for the Armchair Supporter, I’d be over the moon.
I’m an Armchair fan too.
There was my underlying feeling dilute of discovering X amount of Games in one Calendar month, but there’s a Culture I now see that provides little sympathy and compassion – almost to the point of it being non-existent.
What I do is loosen a Shoe-Lace, and somebody then will IMMEDIATELY tie it back up for me. It’s like a ‘spat dummy’ being reinserted into the Toddler’s mouth.

19th October 2019 at 9:03 pm #50426They can’t do that Mr. Balance as it’s not only footy they’re selling, it’s the phone line and broadband. You have to take those and a basic tv pack and then add the sport on. In effect footy is a loss leader without the loss….Pagan

19th October 2019 at 9:13 pm #50427Pagan, If they have the rights to all the games, why dont they show them? That would be value for money if they could. Looking at the packages sold by the prem league that nine posted, it seems they actually have rights to a very limited number of games.
Take package A for example
Package A – won by BT 32 matches on Saturdays at 12:30
So they get the pick of ONE game per saturday, and over the 32 Saturdays will show exactly 32 games, they are not granted any right by the premier league to show more than one.
You may be technically right here with this exclusivity stuff, but it seems meaningless to me and as you can see I dont really understand you. What I would like you to explain to me is how in any way BT or SKY suffer financial loss due to someone watching a stream of a game NEITHER are showing live, because thats what I mean when I say “loss”.

19th October 2019 at 9:30 pm #50429Lucky, yes you’re right in one sense, but the one game only that should be available in the UK means advertising during it is at a premium, also the highlights they show should be the first time you can see them, so any advertising then should be at a premium also. If the viewing figures for the live and highlights isn’t what the advertising companies expect then the fees they pay will be lower.
Summing up if 5 million people want to watch a live game of footy on a Saturday, then there should only be one place to watch it, and businesses will pay a premium for that exposure to 5 million potential customers, streaming will drop the 5 million figure and as such will lower the payment the advertisers will pay….Pagan

19th October 2019 at 9:49 pm #50431Mr Pagan, that was sort of a figure of speech to make of a point of One Size Fits All.
Unfortunately, I’m not Flush with Money.
I’m 6 Day Working Week Individual.
What I am saying in light of these changes is that One Broadcasting Network can provide a facility to be able to bed in Sky, BT Sport and Amazon at an Affordable Price.
That Is All.
