Oz, putting aside your “are you a City fan deep down”.
What I said was I hope City get the acknowledgement for their achievement in winning the treble and for the football they’ve played and generally I think they have had that acknowledgement certainly across the media for both.
I agree City have spent a shed load of money as have Chelsea previously but complaining about what went before FFP is pointless it can’t be undone and was completely within the rules at the time and pro rata owners for decades have spent heavily on their teams long before FFP was even thought of.
But it’s not only about what you spend it’s about how you spend it United have spent shed loads of money too but they remain floundering.
Money aside City’s football has been a joy to watch this season and I doubt any other team could have withstood the challenge of Liverpool by winning their last 14 games to win the title and turning that into a unique treble is the cherry on the cake.
So for me to be clear it was the quality of City’s football I was acknowledging as Stevo posted elsewhere ” All I can say is this City team and the way they play is a joy to watch”.
Turning to City’s net spend this season you’re completely missing the point I was trying to make I’m not saying City have only spent circa £7m net this season isn’t that good my point was that City’s expenditure of £7m net this season suggests FFP is now reeling in City’s spending and they will going forwards almost certainly have to spend within the FFP rules.
In terms of the current UEFA charges against City if they are charged and found guilty of breaking the FFP rules by cooking the books then they have to face the music and I don’t think a one year CL ban would be unreasonable.
I think we all need to return to the theme of this thread which is “Financial Fair Play” and any team flouting those rules since their introduction should be rightly punished imo no matter who they are.

21st May 2019 at 8:58 pm #41262Haha all good 9, because it was within the rules we just forget how Chelsea & city built such big squads & why no one can go better than city over a season in the EPL. Let’s just pretend Santa clause answered a little kids prayers & all the top players magically appeared in their squad, then the evil boogey man (FFP) stopped them from getting too far ahead of the rest. Pep don’t need money, he’ll Leeds spent more than them due to that evil boogey man but Oep is that great he still won the EPL. Good overcame evil despite the massive mountain they had to climb (the boogey man) & will dominate for the foreseeable future. We should bow down & say how great Pep & city are.
Ahh I feel a lot better now, I’m a converted city fan, they are all that & a bag of chips. Thanks 9 me ol mate._____________________________

21st May 2019 at 9:22 pm #41266That wasn’t what I was saying Oz.
Realistically though once the milk is out of the bottle you can’t put it back in the bottle.
The most honest poster on here is Chucky he doesn’t like what both City and Chelsea did but admits he would have been pleased had it been Spurs that acquired such owners.
Both Club’s won the lottery with their owners and no City or Chelsea fans will deny that but the rules of the game have changed now and neither can spend over and above FFP rules since they’ve been introduced as to do so would if proven result in UEFA action which is where City are now.
Of course it’s contributed to the titles and given each one an unfair start but gradually its being eroded and the FFP rules are beginning to bite at City now which is why Pep says he can’t afford Griezmann.
You can accept that or keep agonizing over what happened before FFP kicked in.

21st May 2019 at 9:35 pm #41270As 999 says, the rules have been changed to stop the next Man City or Chelsea happening, they both took advantage of there being no restrictions, it would be a bit like Liverpool fans bemoaning the fact that you get three points for a win instead of two….Pagan

21st May 2019 at 9:40 pm #41271Trying to compete and sustain your position in 3 to 4 competitions in this day and age with the way the game is played as well as the competitiveness makes it even more of a challenge.
Players may buy into the idea of being a squad player and accepting sporadic or ‘adhoc’ appearances. That can overtime change purely and simply from somebody being fed up and running out of patience because they can’t play or feature enough.
The idea of employing more heads means more ‘stock availability’ in an event of a player being injured or suspended. Plus more rest-time suiting both player and club manager. This obviously comes with a selection headache and as mentioned trying to keep everyone happy in getting them to buy into this ‘idealogy’.
But added heads of course contributes to the wage bill, and players have no motivation being paid pittance, so this I feel is one of the areas that spilling over that line of breach when it comes to Fair Play Rules.

Ha, ha very true Nil but if Levy doesn’t give Poch a reasonable Summer transfer budget this time around I think Spurs might lose Poch.

21st May 2019 at 10:35 pm #41275Why would anyone bemoan 3 points instead of 2, that’s the same for everyone. It’s the swooning over city & Pep that I don’t get. Yes Pep is a very good manager but it’s a hell of a lot easier managing 1.2 billion dollars in talent than it is to be managing a squad built on a budget. It’s like me driving a ferrari around the block a couple of times then my brother driving a datsun around & everyone saying I’m a heaps better driver than my brother (which I am) cause I got around faster. If it were LFC that got the rich owners I’d love the titles it brings but I wouldn’t expect others to get on their knees & hail the great Liverpool side. I think Klopp is a great manager as well but reality is if LFC didn’t offer big bucks top players would go elsewhere. I think it would be a great achievement winning the C/L as your up against other rich clubs in real etc that have spent far more money than LFC have. Same if spurs win it, unbelievable considering their squad depth. Everyone expects city to win pretty much most of their games so no big deal but 9 swooning over them is what amuses me.
Anyhow, I think the best ban on any side breaching FFP is a maximum spend of 50 mil for 5 seasons, then you’ll see teams sticking to the rules._____________________________

21st May 2019 at 10:57 pm #41276Oz, nobody is asking anyone to get on their knees to City mate. I’m certsinly not swooning over City and I wish Chelsea had put a spoke in their treble wheel by winning the League Cup but as a football fan I think they are a great football team and I really enjoy watching them but I would say the same about Liverpool who I also really enjoy watching just as I really enjoyed watching United when they were in their pomp.
I think Pep is a great Manager but equally I think Klopp is a great Manager and I agree it will be a great achievement if Liverpool win the CL, imo it’s already a great achievement that they’ve got to successive CL Finals.
Be an even greater achievement should Spurs win the CL though given what they’ve spent over the past few seasons.
Good proposal on a punishment by FFP for over spending limiting a clubs expenditure would be even more appropriate to breaking the FFP spending rules. Cheers 999

21st May 2019 at 11:01 pm #41278Oz, I think Pagans point was 2 points for a win would have seen Liverpool win the title but just like with FFP the rules were changed a while ago and it’s now 3 points for a win.

22nd May 2019 at 5:02 am #412849 truth be told for me city were better to watch than Liverpool this season as they just go at pretty much everyone & it’s good watching the best of the best strutting their stuff. I know we were more balanced than last season & pushed them all the way but I enjoyed watching us just attack everyone last season, win lose or draw we just went for it & I for 1 loved it.
It’s the way some portray them that amuses me, all the “ oh they’ve done what no other club has ever done” stuff. Well no other club has spent 1.2 billion on a squad in such a short timeframe either so you’d question the club if they didn’t win a shed load of trophy’s._____________________________

22nd May 2019 at 7:47 am #41286Oz, two indisputable facts mate City have done what no other Club has done before and spent a shed load of money to do it as have Chelsea have a look at the article below which tracks the spending over the last 8 years.
“If you want to be one of the best teams in world football, you’re going to need to spend big money.
It’s the only way in the modern game with four clubs now spending more than £1billion on transfers across the last eight years.
Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and PhilIppe Coutinho are the most expensive footballers ever

In the last two summers we’ve seen huge sums paid for the best talent on the planet with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe joining Paris Saint-Germain for £200million and £166million, respectively.Meanwhile, Barcelona spent a combined £281million on Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele in the last 12 months.

24th May 2019 at 7:57 pm #41391Oz, sorry I’ve not replied sooner, yep the 2 point comment was about not being able to turn back the clock and apply old rules.
Ferrari and Datsun (showing your age there) the Datsun would win long term as the Ferrari would spend half the time in the garage.
However motorsport is a good analogy as the more money you have the faster you go, and the big teams Mercedes and Ferrari (Fiat) will get round any financial restrictions by using their core business to hide costs…..Pagan

26th May 2019 at 10:21 pm #41497Strong words of defiance from Man City Chairman Al Mubarak against the various claims leveled at City by the Head of La Liga, one of which is his criticism of State owned Clubs.
For the benefit of all UEFA need to put a full stop and a new paragraph behind all this sooner rather than later based on the Der Spiegel revelations and UEFA’s own investigations.
