Have a feeling Griezmann will demand Sanchez level wages wherever he goes and that can have a bad knock on effect with the other star players demanding parity. Perhaps that has influenced Pep? He is supposed to be on £25m a year?!
Griezmann for me has been going downhill in the last cpls of yrs,and if Barca are thinking they will rebuild by buying Greizmann-they have made ahuge mistake, imho.

18th May 2019 at 4:51 pm #41145Mav, all the reports suggest that Griezmann is prepared to take a big hit on his current wages of 24/25m Euros to join Barca. Is he the right signing? Who knows only time will tell.

20th May 2019 at 5:16 pm #41226Adlab, anyone who breaks the rules has to face the music mate that’s what Chelsea are currently having to do with the transfer ban subject to appeal and what City might have to do subject to appeal if they are found guilty of cooking the books.

20th May 2019 at 6:26 pm #41228I’m hearing tonight from my local Radio station that City are going for Harry Maguire. How and Why? This is what’s killing the game as the squad seems to be piled with a truckload of players.

20th May 2019 at 6:39 pm #41231Loan them out with them being the Parent Club – forget FFP; we need Radical changes and interventions because this is just screwing up the system.

20th May 2019 at 6:48 pm #41232Silly-Willy-Nilly, every club, including yours and mine, play the system to the max to try and gain an advantage. I’ve teased the puppy about the Chelsea “loan” program, and as he quite rightly says, it isn’t actually against the rules, even if it does seemingly appear to make a mockery of the dare I say the principle of the whole loan system. It’s the same with City, until it’s actually proven they have broken the rules, then we can only really speculate.
However, my biggest “issue” with the rule breakers (no a particular club in mind) is quite simply the lack of a serious deterrent. You fine a club 17 million euros casue they spent a billion? Not much of a punishment. Ban a club from signing players after they’ve signed 80 or 90 players? Hmmm…
I don’t care who the club is, but if you’re going to punish a club, then bloody punish them…

20th May 2019 at 9:20 pm #41236A years ban from the CL if that is what eventually transpires if City are found guilty seems a fairly meaningful punishment to me. The loan system rules are currently under review and once they are confirmed all Clubs including Chelsea will have to work within the new rules or face sanctions.

20th May 2019 at 10:30 pm #412389 objective & sensible, your making out city are achieving unbelievable things after only spending under 7 mil. You conveniently don’t mention the 1.2 billion they’ve spent before that. So we now should bow down admire them because they’ve not spent a fortune for a change. As chuckster says they’ve simply stockpiled top quality players & everyone else is playing catch up whilst they make a couple of top quality buys here & there. What a surprise, they’re winning titles as a result.
I’ve never questioned yours or any city fans loyalty & going through hard times not winning anything but I just don’t see them as doing amazing things like you do, for me they simply outspent everyone else over numerous seasons & effectively bought titles. Yes it’s been happening for decades but they’ve taken it to another level.
If found guilty of breaching FFP how about a maximum spend of 50 mil for 5 seasons, that’ll encourage clubs not to break the rules because your wealth won’t matter._____________________________

20th May 2019 at 11:45 pm #41239A replacement for Vinny? So what about John Stones?
A way to possibly find a resolution to this is a requirement for every squad member ensuring they reach a certain level of appearances.
I don’t know how we actually define Stockpiling. I don’t think looking at the example of Man City whether from a player point of view, it’s been detrimental towards their own development and experience.
It’s not as if Pep’s brought in players in the knowledge that they would only be used as a last resort. In fact, quite the opposite. Look at Zinchenko for example?
These players have been integrated and shuffled consistently so the majority actually have been involved in a handful of games. Many are familiar with each other too. It is hard to begrudge this model aside the obvious argument of their spending power.

20th May 2019 at 11:52 pm #41240The only thing that will shift a change in culture will be if TV subscriptions start declining. Until then, so long as such interest is maintained, the clubs will deem that all football fans must be happy with the current arrangements.
Indeed, just come across this recent article, which argues that fans (particularly younger ones) aren’t now bothered about whether teams are vastly unequal – they just want to see star players entertaining them. And if that trend continues, you’d expect younger fans will then simply pick one of the top six teams to support as opposed to who their local (perhaps smaller) premier league club is. All this doesn’t mean this new type of fan is right, just that they’ve been brought up in this culture to believe it’s the best set up.

That’s not new mate how do you think the support for Liverpool and United became as enormous as it did kids follow the most succesful Clubs whether they live close by or not even when they have a PL Club on their door step.

21st May 2019 at 11:04 am #41243Nine, no doubt. But I suspect this trend has increased significantly over recent decades, and I’d be curious to know how well the smaller clubs are able to attract younger fans and how sustainable they’ll be in the future.

21st May 2019 at 4:30 pm #41248Mikus, we live in Sunny Somerset now and our nearest team is Bristol City and the gates are 20,000 plus in the Championship.
Nevertheless I do still see plenty of City and Liverpool shirts on the kids around here and I often kid them on about how they should be wearing Bristol City shirts and many of them tell me Bristol City is their second team.
