14th May 2019 at 5:39 pm #40834It’s in the stars, Waspy, karma for the little Ewoks who fell short in their battle with the financial Deathstar from Manchester, the poor little fluffy lambs who were run over by lorry load of Etihad mint-sauce, the little Harry Potters who came second in the chase for the Goblet of Fire, the poor 2016 Cambridge Boat Race crew vs Oxford, Klopp’s Olly Murs to Pepe’s Joe McElderry…
I’m more of a 63/37 split myself, but I can’t decide who too!! 🙂

14th May 2019 at 5:51 pm #40835You certainly can Sean Liverpool’s success in the 70’s and the 80’s was built on the Moore’s family money when they were buying up so many of the best players and other Clubs couldn’t compete with them. This helped turn Liverpool into the powerhouse it was which generated the worldwide support and laid the foundations for the modern day Liverpool of today.
Liverpool dominated football and the financial support from the Moore’s family was a major factor in that.
But I didn’t start this discussion by stating ” Teams like Chelsea and City have already benifited to such a degree they now stand with false/undeserved statue within the game.” threeps did.
It may have been different times with different valuations but Liverpool still pursued the same policy which is a matter of historical fact which subsequently even threeps admitted was a fair point.

14th May 2019 at 6:06 pm #40837Chucky, given that Spurs were almost eliminated from their Group with the very late equaliser from Moura in the Nou Camp saving them, then the Aguero penalty miss in the first leg of the Qtr Final v City followed by all the unlikely events of the 2nd leg at the Etihad , then losing to Ajax at home, then being 3 nil down at half time in the 2nd leg coming back from that and scoring the goal that sent Spurs through to the Final in the 95th minute.
Based on all of the above I certainly wouldn’t bet against a Spurs victory in a game which is probably too close to call especially if Spurs got Harry Kane back and fit for the Final.
The big shame of a Spurs win from a Chelsea perspective would be that the Chelsea fans could no longer sing ” Champions of Europe you’ll never sing that” to the Spurs fans.?

14th May 2019 at 6:18 pm #40838You forgot the Sir Harry late show against PSV and Wee Erik’s late winner against Inter a couple of weeks later… but other than that… but it’s against Liverpool, everybody’s 2nd favourite team!! As a Spurs fan first and a Liverpool fan the rest of the time, I insist we allow Liverpool to win to ease their pain of not adding to the 18 titles the greedy buggers already have! 🙂

14th May 2019 at 6:28 pm #40840Why is the same comments pulled out whenever a topic is raised like this?
Not excusing Liverpool’s power but it’s no where as ridiculous as what we’re seeing unfolded today.
??

14th May 2019 at 6:33 pm #40841It’s exactly the same principle Nil and historically correct.
The first comments were “pulled out” by a Liverpool poster.
Shame really there was no need for this thread to go tribal let’s just focus on the current situation with City and UEFA.

14th May 2019 at 6:53 pm #40845But utd were spending money as well as us nine and the figures were near no in comparison to Chelsea and city
Crazy comparison in my view. We weren’t buying multiple players for crazy money every season
Rush was sold 87, we bought Barnes , Aldo and Beardsley
We bought well back then ?

14th May 2019 at 7:44 pm #40851Nine just because you dont like what I said doesn’t mean something has gone tribal. Yes Liverpool probably did spend more than others 40 odd years ago, Man Utd then outspent everyone 20 years ago. Blackburn came and disappeared in a flash but have their trophy to show for it despite being a very small club. They were in a false position. Chelsea came in and blew everyone out of the water and yes elevated them into the elite bracket. At the time Man Utd were still a powerhouse in the transfer market but Chelsea were a completely different level.
FFP is too little too late. If City have breached the rules then hit them hard although I cant see it happening or making much difference. They’ll find other ways to stay out in front.
My opinion, without wanting to sound tribal or upset anyone, is that strict spending rules should of been implemented long ago before Chelsea and City could buy their way to recent success. It’s more a reflection of the game today than a dig at those clubs.

14th May 2019 at 8:01 pm #40852There needs to be strict limits in:
– Transfer Value
– Wages
– Number of players that are high in Transfers and WagesThis to encourage more youth to break into the First Team and a squad that is developed more organically.

14th May 2019 at 8:01 pm #40853“Haha Nine I knew that paragraph would get a reaction from you! Yeah you make a fair point, it has always happened.”
Football Clubs have always tried to buy their way to success through the ages and it didn’t just start with Chelsea and City or even Blackburn Rovers!
