25th May 2022 at 9:29 am #196337Pep I’m sure will and should receive an award. Sean’s right on the League Recognition.
It’s a 38 game challenge and as we’ve seen a long with so many if buts and maybes played out, there’s no room for any margin of error.

25th May 2022 at 9:36 am #196338This I’m sure will open up a discussion of “which would you rather win”
Push aside Klopp’s Portfolio, Liverpool fans hadn’t won for years any of the domestic cups and that we wanted to put right and win under Jurgen which we did.
I don’t think we gained a proper lift-off as far as the League went. The table was a little smoke and mirrors early doors with City’s early defeat, knowing they had the capabilities to push up from a few wins put together.
Personally, I used to like these awards and the way they were presented decades ago when I liked the way things felt out of the Sport. There was more of a feeling of Prestige and a Proper Presentation. Now, I don’t know even in the world of the Internet.
A trophy is a trophy recognition is or should be merited to the club achieving it and the manager guiding their team to glory.

25th May 2022 at 12:27 pm #196339Not sure what is funny by my logic Dirty Harry. I agree that I wouldn’t give it to Pep, he won the league by 1 point. I agree that Howe should have got it considering he had the biggest effect on his team IMO

25th May 2022 at 12:32 pm #196340The new Utd manager makes an interesting comment saying, the end of an eraโฆtargeting Pep and Jurgen
Brian, you’re making the all too common mistake of just reading a headline and going with it. He said nothing of the sort.
This article is the perfect example of why it’s important to read the full quotes and not just the headline
How journalists stitched up Ten Hag to make Klopp and Guardiola headlines

25th May 2022 at 12:36 pm #196341Very surprised Klopp got it. Liverpool were second favourites at the beginning of the season and came second. For me, it should always be about which manager had the biggest gap between what they were expected to achieve and what they actually achieved. Nobody exceeded expectations more than Howe IMO.

25th May 2022 at 12:54 pm #196342Klopp winning it I’m sure will now put to bed Pep’s paranoia that everyone in the country supports Liverpool.๐

25th May 2022 at 12:55 pm #196343To be honest, you could make a case for several managers. Yes Klopp was expected to finish 1st or 2nd, but then with his budget vs others, he still exceeds expectations. On the other side, you can make the argument Pep’s budget puts him under pressure to deliver. Similarly, Howe did enjoy a big budget in January vs clubs around him but again you could argue the pressure was on him & Newcastle were still in dire straits when he took over.

25th May 2022 at 1:28 pm #196344Sure, there’s definitely a point to be made there Mikus. I just think if you looked back to the start of each manager’s season and suggested each one would do what they ultimately did (Guardiola wins the title, Klopp comes a close second and Howe would come 11th). The only one you’d get questioned about would be Howe. We all know Liverpool have spent well and far less than City and others around them but that’s still a squad you’d expect to come 1st/2nd. That he’s done it on a comparatively lower budget is as much a credit to the transfer committee and scouts as it is him. That’s a top 2 squad whichever way you look at it. Gone are the days when managers can get full credit for lower spending as they’re much less involved than they used to be.

25th May 2022 at 1:36 pm #196345Foxy – If you want to go left field then Thomas Frank is far more deserving than Howe. Howe wasn’t even managing for two months of the season. I found it funny that you thought Howe and Conte were more deserving than Klopp and I still do.

25th May 2022 at 1:40 pm #196346Ed – I think you’re forgetting a lot of people fancied man utd and chelsea at the start of the season, as they have been left behind it makes it look like an obvious two horse race. Before a ball was kicked we were anything but a dead cert for at least 2nd. After our first game against Chelsea, Lucky tried to tell me he had enough empirical evidence to say Chelsea were the better team.

25th May 2022 at 1:44 pm #196347Very true Harry.were Liverpool 2nd favourites Ed? A lot of pundits and people on here wrote us after last season and a good few on here predicted us to finish outside the top 2. Be interesting to see the predictions post out on here at the start of the season
You going by the bookies at the start of the season?

25th May 2022 at 5:40 pm #196354Not sure why Klopp.
If you don’t give it to the league winner then you give it to the one who has exceeded expectations. For me that’s Howe. Not Klopp. It’s about the league._____________________________

25th May 2022 at 7:38 pm #196359manager of the year has to go to …..consistency…however you want to judge that. Not titles, cups being the sole measure

25th May 2022 at 7:47 pm #196361Leeds were subjected to essentially a second-season syndrome. They exceeded expectations coming back into the top flight and were winning matches behind closed doors (the season they were back).
When United won their first match, it raised more than eyebrows on the opening day. I thought they would challenge for the Title and Chelsea would pip Man City.
We have threads and posts documented on this site that will validate our thoughts back then. It’s healthy and all good. The position we are now in is hindsight so that can skew our perspective. On the same token though, a lot of us fall into ‘that trap’ when barely 10 games of the season are played.
Some teams find their form late on, some drop off, but yeah, the one that’s consistent and has done enough to finish 1st deserves recognition for that achievement.
